The bodies of Herbert Wigwe, the former head of Access Holdings Plc, his wife Chizoba, and his son Chizi have arrived in Nigeria from the United States.

They were among six people who died in a helicopter crash in California on February 9, 2023.

The crash also claimed the life of Abimbola Ogunbanjo, the former Chairman of the Nigerian Exchange Group, and two crew members.

Funeral ceremonies for the Wigwe family started earlier this week.

Their bodies reached Omueke in the Isiokpo community of Ikwerre Local Government Area for a wake-keeping on Friday, with the final burial set for Saturday.

Family, friends, and well-wishers have gathered to pay their respects, sharing tributes and memories of Herbert Wigwe’s impact.

The sadness extends beyond Nigeria, with French President Emmanuel Macron expressing condolences for the loss of a great friend, emphasising Wigwe’s dedication to enhancing the relationship between France and Nigeria.

Former US President Bill Clinton also shared his deep admiration for Wigwe’s efforts to create opportunities for young people in Nigeria and support humanitarian work globally.
