Minister of Works, David Umahi has warned that he will flush out elements within the Nigerian government causing delays in road development across the country.

The Minister said some contractors are part of the gang up. He noted that the President is right behind him in his efforts to sanitize the system.

Umahi disclosed this after a closed door meeting with President Bola Tinubu. He also announced that the President approved all the proposed interventions for the rehabilitation of the East-West Road.

According to him, the President also gave approval for consultants, engineers and a task force to be on every site from Lokoja to Benin, Warri, Cross River and other parts of Nigeria to monitor the progress and quality of construction being carried out by contractors.

The Works Minister also begged Nigerians and other stakeholders to join hands and support the initiative of the renewed hope administration to build roads using concrete rather than bitumen.

He warned that contractors who fail to comply with the alternative use of concrete pavement to build more friendly and durable roads across the country, will have their contracts revoked.

Citing the failure of Asphalt, especially in the north central and entire southern part of the country, Umahi added that the use of concrete pavement will make the roads last longer and curb insecurity on highways, guarantee Nigerians more jobs and boost economic activities across the Nation.
