Nigeria’s Court of Appeal in the capital city of Abuja has cancelled the election of Senator Elisha Abbo representing Adamawa North district.
The judgment was delivered on Monday. The court declared the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP Amos Yohanna, as the rightful winner of the senatorial election.
In a petition filed at the tribunal sitting in Yola, Yohanna had challenged the election of Senator Abbo as the winner of the election. He argued that Abbo was not duly elected by the majority of lawful votes cast during the election.
Mr Yohanna had alleged that the election of Abbo was marred by irregularities as well as non-compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2022.
He also said that there were cases of over-voting at some polling units, false entries, alteration, and cancellation of votes at several polling units.
