The Nigerian Senate has passed the Student Loans Access to Higher Education) Act (Repeal and Re-Enactment) Bill, 2024.
The senate’s resolution followed its consideration of the report of the senate committee on tertiary institutions and TETFUND.
The chairman of the committee, Senator Muntari Dandutse presented the report during plenary.
President Bola Tinubu had last week, written to the Senate and the House of Representatives, seeking the repeal of the Student Loan (Access to Higher Education) Bill, and to enact a new one.
The bill, which scaled first, second, and third readings in both parliamentary sittings, became law on Wednesday.
On the repayment of loans by beneficiaries, the bill stipulates that beneficiaries of the Fund shall begin as soon as the beneficiary becomes employed in any capacity.
