A seven-storey building located inside the luxurious Banana Island in Lagos State, Nigeria’s commercial capital has collapsed.
The incident happened on Wednesday around past 3 pm.
The spokesperson for the Lagos Fire Service and Rescue Service, Amodu Shakiri, confirmed the incident.
He said, “We got a call around 3:58 pm. We are currently trying to ascertain the claim that no one was under the rubble.”
It was gathered that the building caved in when some of the construction workers on site had closed for the day.
Some of them were however injured as a result of the collapse.
The building, sources said, is Joe Faraday’s site with ongoing construction works inside it.
A source said while it is unsure what triggered the collapse, concreting was ongoing on the sixth floor before the collapse.
A terse statement by the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA said workers are trapped in the building and its officials are mobilising the response team to rescue the trapped victims.
