DSS, Prison Services Fight Over Emefiele’s Custody

The suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, was on Tuesday granted bail in the sum of N20 million with one surety in like sum by the Federal High Court in Lagos State.

He was granted bail after pleading not guilty to the two counts bordering on the alleged illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.

Emefiele is facing two counts of illegal possession of firearms and ammunition preferred against him by the Federal Ministry of Justice before the vacation judge, Justice Nicholas Oweibo.

Meanwhile, the operatives of the Department of State Services whisked away the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria from the Federal High Court premises in Lagos.

Earlier, the DSS operatives and officials of the Nigeria Correctional Service had engaged in a wrestling match over the custody of the defendant.

A  free-for-all fight had ensued between officials of the two agencies with a senior-ranking prisons official seriously beaten up.
