As the 2024 dry season arrives, farmers across the nine (9) Local Government Areas (LGAs) that constitute Adamawa Southern Senatorial District have reasons to smile again. Senator Binos Dauda Yaroe; the Senator representing the Zone decided to empower them with no fewer than two hundred (200) water pumps to enable them to engage in dry season farming to become useful to themselves, their families and the society as a whole.

It was a dream come true for the dry season farmers in Adamawa South who benefited from the free distribution of the water pumps.

Speaking to Newmen, the Chairman of the Distribution Committee, Major AVM Elam (RTD), said that agriculture is one of the important forces that drive the economy, hence the People’s Senator decided to empower dry season farmers with water pumps which would help them in no small measures in boosting the economy and increasing food production in the land.

The Committee Chairman said that farmers must engage in both rainy and dry seasons farming, revealing that more empowerment programmes are underway for the benefit of peasant farmers across rural communities in the Adamawa South 9 LGAs by the Senator.

In his words, “Apart from the free medical outreaches, Senator Binos has engaged in a good number of empowerment programmes for the benefit of his constituents. One of these programmes is to freely distribute these water pumps to dry season farmers to enhance dry season farming in the Zone.

“As you are all aware, this is not the time for politics. The era of politics has passed, and it is now time for the masses to enjoy the dividends of democracy by their political officeholders.

“That is why in this free distribution of water pumps, beneficiaries have been selected from all the major political parties in the State. This is so because Senator Binos is not the Senator for the PDP people alone; he is the Senator for all people in Adamawa Southern Senatorial District irrespective of their political backgrounds”.

He called on the beneficiaries to make good use of the farming machine to achieve the goal of the project which is to empower peasant farmers to enable them to fight hunger in the land.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Mineral Resources, Hon. Ibrahim Haruna, who expressed delight over the empowerment, commended Senator Binos for seeing the need to embark on such an all-important programme.

Hon. Haruna expressed optimism that the empowerment would go a long way in improving agricultural activities on the land.

In his remarks, Commissioner for Transportation, Hon. Musa Kallamu, commended Senator Binos for embarking on the free distribution of water pumps to dry season farmers, adding that the gesture would boost food production in the land.

He called on the beneficiaries to see to it that the farming equipment being given to them are utilised for the purpose they are meant for.

Interacting with journalists shortly after receiving free water pumps, a cross-section of the beneficiaries thanked Senator Binos for the kind gesture, praying to God Almighty to give him more wisdom and strength to enable him to provide more democratic dividends to his constituents.

One of the beneficiaries, Mr Kingsley Tanko, said that he is a bonafide member of the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC). He hailed Senator Binos Yaroe for carrying all political parties along in his programmes and activities.

Another beneficiary, Baban Ladi Dan-Borno, who could not hide his joy, thanked Senator Binos for empowering him. He assured the lawmaker that he would utilise the farming machine for the purpose intended.

He disclosed, “I lack words to thank Senator Binos Yaroe with. He is a God-sent to the people of Adamawa Southern Senatorial District. I never dreamed of having this water pump, but Senator Binos has made it possible for me to get it. This gesture has encouraged me to be more committed to dry season farming”.

Comr. Jeremiah M. Yakwal; former Adamawa State Chairman Medical and Health Workers Association of Nigeria, is also one of the beneficiaries. Shortly after he was presented with a water pump, he lacked words to express appreciation to the People’s Senator, calling on God Almighty to grant Senator Binos Yaroe the desires of his heart.

He pointed out, “Last year my wife benefitted from Senator Binos’ free medical outreach. She was treated free-of-charge of an ailment, and she is fine now. Today, I am a beneficiary of Senator Binos’ empowerment programme. I have been given this farming machine for free, and I thank God for the life of our Senator”.

Another beneficiary, Mal. Tadille Lelle, who could not quantify his happiness, told newsmen that Senator Binos has the interest of his constituents at heart.

He expressed, “I benefitted from this water pump free distribution not because I lobbied for it. My name is just included because the committee looked for real dry-season farmers as target beneficiaries, and I happen to be one of them”.

Pressmen who witnessed the event observed that the free distribution of the water pumps was peaceful, orderly and transparent, to the delight of the Adamawa South people.
