Zamalek defeated fellow Egyptian team Al Masry 1-0 in Cairo on Sunday to take sole control of Group D in the CAF Confederation Cup.
Shortly after the hour, star forward Ahmed Sayed “Zizo” gave the defending Confederation Cup champions, who currently lead Masry by three points at the top of the group, their moment of excellence.
The home team controlled the first half, but the formidable Al Masry defence held firm and prevented any goals.
However, the visitors were caught off guard by a determined Zamalek onslaught in the 64th minute after displaying greater ambition and creating some opportunities.
Zizo supplied the moment of quality with a curling attempt beyond Masry custodian Mahmoud Gad.
Masry now has to worry about Black Bulls, a team from Mozambique, who defeated Enyimba of Nigeria 3-0 at home in Maputo, demonstrating their powers once again.
