Nigeria’s Defence Headquarters said Troops Killed a nitorious Terrorist Commander, Munzur Ya Audu in the North East of the country.

Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba made the disclosure while briefing Journalists in Abuja.He said the aim of the armed forces in the ongoing counter terrorism and counter insurgency war remains to find and destroy the terrorists and their cohorts whenever they may be hiding in Nigeria..

General Buba noted that the military is busy collecting intelligence, hunting them and striking locations in which they are confirmed to be hibernating.

He explained that serious efforts have been emplaced at dismantling the military capabilities as well as to destroy the terror networks of these groups, adding that troops are also actively targeting terrorists logistics bases and other structures that have affiliation to terror groups.

He said during the week under review, troops neutralised 115 and arrested 238 persons, troops also arrested 51 perpetrators of oil theft and rescued 138 kidnapped hostages.

In overall, he said troops are mission focussed, prepared and motivated to winning the war against terrorism.

Some Tinubu Support groups nationwide converged on Abuja, crying over the alleged total neglect by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the appointments of his federal cabinet.

Engineer Dr Kailani Muhammad, Director-General, Confederation of APC Support Groups, National Chairman of Tinubu/Shettima Network and a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), decried the situation where, President Bola Tinubu completely sidelined the over 150,000 APC support groups nationwide that toiled under strenuous conditions to campaign and voted for him at the presidential election which he eventually won.

The support groups said they are very bitter and at a loss as to why Mr President prefers to reward those who were criticising him before the elections with ministerial appointments, while abandoning those who sacrificed their time, energy and money to ensure his emergence as President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The Lagos State chapter of the #EndBadGovernance movement kicked off a protest on Friday, calling for the immediate withdrawal of the charges of treason against five activists facing trial under the Bola Tinubu administration.

The protest, which began promptly at 8 a.m. at the Ikeja Under Bridge, seeks the release of Michael Adaramoye Lenin, Mosius Sodiq, Daniel Akande, Angel Innocent, and other #EndBadGovernance protesters currently on trial for allegedly attempting to overthrow the government.

The demonstrators, holding placards and chanting slogans, voiced their outrage over what they described as a politically motivated crackdown on peaceful protestors.

On Tuesday, the Lagos State chapter of the #EndBadGovernance movement announced plans for a peaceful protest on Friday.

It urged the general public to join in their call for President Bola Tinubu’s government to drop all charges against activists arrested during the August #EndBadGovernance protest.

The group called on the government to immediately drop the charges against Michael Adaramoye Lenin, Mosius Sodiq, Daniel Akande, Angel Innocent, and all #EndBadGovernance protesters on trial for treason.

The Nigerian Military has declared wanted Nine members of an emerging notorious terrorists sect, Lakurawas operating in the North West of Nigeria.

Director, Defence Media Operations (DMO), Major General Edward Buba who made the declaration during a biweekly press briefing assured that the military will continue to work decisively to kill the terrorists, stop the insecurity in the nation and ensure the safety of citizens.

General Buba further disclosed that the Lakurawas who are the latest terrorists group in the North West are traceable to ISIS in the Sahelian Region, who capitalized on the collapsed joint border operations with Nigerian security forces at the Niger/Chad borders, which checkmates the terrorists.

As according to DMO, Lakurawas are affiliates of terrorists from Republics of Mali and Niger, adding that they started infiltrating into northern parts of Sokoto and Kebbi states from the Niger and Mali areas, particularly after the coup in Niger Republic.

The public is advised to provide any information they know about the wanted criminals.

President Bola Tinubu and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar met in Abuja, the capital territory on Friday.

The two exchanged pleasantries during the Jummah prayer and wedding of the daughter of Senator Danjuma Goje at the National Mosque.

The Lagos State police command has freed at 22 Nigerians detained during the #EndSARS memorial protest on Sunday.

These arrests took place at the Lekki tollgate area.

The protesters demanded the complete implementation of the findings from the judicial panels established following the protests.

Police officers dispersed the crowd that had gathered around 8:30 am to honour those who lost their lives during the police brutality protests in 2020.

Four years ago, thousands participated in the #EndSARS protests, opposing the actions of the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), which faced allegations of police brutality.

An Amnesty International report states that at least 12 protesters lost their lives in 2020 at the Lekki tollgate when Nigerian security forces fired upon them.

On Sunday, protesters were stopped from marching through the tollgate, and security forces detained demonstrators, including the organizer of the memorial event.

The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations has reported that 1.39 million hectares of cropland have been submerged by flooding in Northeast Nigeria, exacerbating an already severe food insecurity crisis. This announcement was made during the 2024 World Food Day (WFD) event held in collaboration with the Adamawa State Government in Yola.

Speaking at the event, Daouda Doumbia, FAO Head of Office for the Northeast, represented by Dr. Abdullahi Usman, FAO Field Office Coordinator for Adamawa, highlighted the significant impact of flooding between September 16 and 30. According to Doumbia, approximately 3.82 million hectares of land were flooded, with 1.39 million hectares of cropland affected, particularly in Borno and Adamawa states. The flooding has led to potential maize production losses of 486,000 tons, which would have been enough to feed four million people for a year.

The FAO official expressed concern over the region’s worsening food insecurity due to climate change, emphasizing that rainfed and irrigated crops lands in Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe (BAY states) have been severely affected. Over 104,000 hectares of rainfed cropland and 6,570 hectares of irrigated cropland were submerged, leading to estimated food losses of 166,731 metric tons.

The event, which included visits to demonstration farms and the American University of Nigeria (AUN), also addressed the malnutrition crisis in Nigeria. Doumbia noted that about three million children under five are stunted due to inadequate access to essential nutrients. FAO is working to alleviate the situation by distributing ‘Tom Brown’, a locally produced high-nutrient food, to 4,680 children under five in the BAY states.
