Mikel Arteta, the manager of Arsenal, stated that he wants his team to be “kings of everything” following this week’s tremendous acclaim for their set-piece prowess.
Arsenal defeated Manchester United 2-0 on Wednesday, scoring two goals from corners.
With those goals, Arsenal now has 22 goals from corners this season, five more than any other team in the top five leagues in Europe.
Following the game, Dimitar Berbatov, a former striker for Manchester United and Tottenham, called Arsenal the “new Stoke City”—a team that was particularly good at set pieces during their ten-year Premier League run from 2008 to 2018.
While urging his team to dominate every facet of football, Arteta said he viewed Berbatov’s remarks as a “big compliment” in his Friday speech.
“We want to be the kings of everything,” he said.
“On set pieces, the best in the world; on high press, the best in the world; attacking in open spaces, the best in the world.
“Best atmosphere and stadium – the best at everything.
“Before it was we didn’t score enough, we didn’t challenge, we didn’t win big games for 20 years. We want to be the best at everything.”
Arsenal is currently seven points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool and has won four straight games.
After missing Wednesday’s triumph, defenders Gabriel and Riccardo Calafiori are back to full fitness for their Sunday trip to Fulham.
