Vipers SC beat bottom side, Soltilo Bright Stars, 2-1 at Kavumba on Saturday to return to the top of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League table.
On the same day, Express travelled to Lugogo and nipped KCCA.Gusto Mulongo and Allan Okello scored Vipers goals while Warren Buule got Bright Stars consolation.
Vipers’ seventh win in 11 matches moved them top of the standings on 24 points, just one above NEC, who drew 1-1 with URA on Thursday. Bright Stars remain bottom on just six points from 11 games.
Mulongo put Vipers Vipers ahead after just 16 minutes, capitalising on Bright Stars’ failure to deal with Moses Waiswa’s corner.
In-form Okello doubled the advantage for the visitors, Vipers, with his seventh goal of the season on 20 minutes when he placed home Karim Watambala’s cut-back. Only SC Villa’s Charles Lwanga has scored more at eight goals.
Bright Stars did reduce the deficit on the half hour when Buule pounced after Vipers failed to deal with a freekick but the Venoms held on for all three points.
Later on under the MTN Omondi Stadium floodlights, Emmanuel Wasswa scored the game’s only goal for Express to beat KCCA and move level on 19 points with the Kasasiro Boys.
