Fire razed part of Dosunmu Market on Lagos Island, leading to the collapse of four buildings and damage to fourteen others.

The cause of the fire outbreak is yet to be known at the time of filing this report, but eyewitnesses said the fire started around 10 am.

Mr. Ibrahim Farinloye, Lagos Territorial Coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), disclosed to the newsmen that the fire’s origin was suspected to be from the refueling of a running generator within the market premises.

Despite efforts from emergency responders including NEMA, Federal and State Fire Services, the Nigeria Police, and the fire service of the Nigeria Ports Authority, the blaze could not be brought under control.

This incident is coming barely three weeks after four buildings were destroyed by an inferno at the same market.

On Monday a three-storey building located at Breadfruit Street, Balogun Market in Lagos State was also gutted by fire.
