The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has appealed to candidates who have hitches in the course of the examination to be calm as they would be rescheduled to write the exam on the same day or next day.

Registrar of JAMB, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede made the appeal while fielding questions from journalists after monitoring the exam in Kogo-Bwari, Abuja. He explained that so far, UTME had been going on smoothly as only one centre had been reported to have encountered issues.

The JAMB Registrar noted that it is not comfortable with the award of scholarships to UTME best-performing candidates on the basis of the exam alone, as that would not capture other criteria that are factored in for admission.

JAMB explained that it has found out that some candidates have given their details to fraudsters fortunately, the perpetrators are already in the net of security agencies and those who have benefited from the proceeds of the fraudsters will pay for it.

Oloyede, who commended the public, especially parents for their smooth conduct, insisted that things can move on well if parents can keep away from the centres the way he experienced it when he visited centres. As according to him, parents are the ones constituting the problems for the students.

On the expectations from the 2024 UTME, Oloyede explained that the exercise is expected to be hitch free following the introduction of new mechanisms into the exam system.
