Tusker FC winger Lawrence Luvanda has aimed to reach eight goals with the 17 games remaining in this season’s FKF Premier League, after recovering from a two-month injury lay-off and returning to first team training.
The speedy winger has been out of action since late November after picking up a hamstring strain, but he says he now feels strong and is ready to compete for a starting place, as the team starts the second leg.
“I am really happy and grateful to be back. It has been a tough two-month journey for me. It has been tough especially because it came at a time when I had picked up good form and it wasn’t easy taking it in. But I have worked really hard, pushed myself to ensure I recover well. I feel strong and I am ready to help the team for the second leg,” he said as quoted by Tusker’s official website.
Luvanda adds; “I am thankful to my teammates for the work they have put in to put the team up there on the standings because it is not easy. Now I am ready to come back and play my part.”
The winger says his recovery was made easier by the support he received from family and teammates, saying that pushed him to approach every day with positivity.
“My family was really there for me and they supported me a lot. That gave me courage to move on with each day. My teammates were always there for me too and they kept wishing me a quick recovery. My drive and ambition now is to do well and not let them down,” Luvanda says.
“The team has also shown a lot of faith in me and that shows they know I have something to give and that is an encouragement for me too and I am grateful for that. It is now my duty to work on the pitch and repay that faith by scoring or assisting.”
Luvanda has scored one goal this season, a late equalizer in the 1-1 draw with Kenya Police FC. His target now is to raise that figure to eight in the remaining 17 games of the season.
He believes he is a better player now, especially as he closes in on his fourth season at the club.
“I have grown a lot since coming here. The winning mentality here is absolutely huge and it has seen me grow. The demans are high, and the pressure to win is high. As a player you need such to make yourself better.”
