Zoning guber ticket to Osun west will dislodge Adeleke’s Govt – APC group

A group within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, the Osun West Crusaders, has criticized the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke, describing it as a government marked by irresponsibility.

Addressing a press conference in Osogbo, on Monday, the group Coordinator, AbdulGafar Blessing, stressed that the current PDP-led administration has failed to deliver meaningful progress for residents of the state, stressing that only an APC candidate preferably from Osun West can unseat Governor Adeleke and restore the state to the path of development.

According to the group, “The present government under Governor Ademola Adeleke has come to epitomize executive irresponsibility, marked by a lack of vision, erratic governance, and policies that have scarcely enhanced the lives of Osun State’s inhabitants.”

The group urged the party leadership to prioritize a candidate from Osun West to strengthen the party’s chances of reclaiming power, if former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola does not contest in the 2026 election.

They stressed that zoning the ticket to Osun West would not only foster inclusivity but also provide a strategic advantage in securing electoral victory.

“The sole means to dislodge this government and restore Osun State to the trajectory of progress and development lies in ensuring our party presents a formidable candidate from Osun West—if Alhaji Isiaka Adegboyega Oyetola is not in the fray,” the statement added.

The group argued that zoning the ticket to Osun West would correct this imbalance, ensuring a more equitable political landscape.

“The call to zone the 2026 Osun governorship ticket to Osun West stems from a deep-rooted desire for equity and balanced representation in our state’s political landscape.

“Over the years, the gubernatorial seat has rotated predominantly between other districts, leaving Osun West with fewer opportunities to lead and shape the developmental trajectory of our state.”

The group, however, moved in their hundreds to the APC party Secretariat, Osogbo, to submit their letter of request which was received by Director of Admin and Finance, Aremu Tajudeen, received the letter who promised to deliver their messages to the appropriate authorities.

APC group renews call for zoning of guber ticket to Osun West

Osun West Crusaders, a group within the Osun All Progressives Congress, APC, has reiterated calls for the governorship ticket of the party in the 2026 gubernatorial election in the state be zoned to Osun West Senatorial District.

This is as the group accused the administration of the state governor, Ademola Adeleke of executive irresponsibility, marked by a lack of vision, erratic governance, and policies that have scarcely enhanced the lives of Osun State’s inhabitants.

The group in a statement signed by AbdulGafar Blessing, on Monday also claimed that should former governor Isiaka Adegboyega Oyetola, choose not to contest, it is imperative for Osun APC to deliberate upon granting the party’s ticket to the Osun West Senatorial District.

AbdulGafar, maintaining that Osun West has served as the cornerstone of steadfast allegiance to the APC for several years added that it is equitable and just that the leadership of the party afford due consideration to Osun West.

He said, “For decades, Osun West has served as the cornerstone of steadfast allegiance to the APC. From the era of the Alliance for Democracy (AD) to the Action Congress (AC), the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), and now the APC, our people have consistently championed the progressive cause. We have contributed profoundly to the party’s triumphs and remain devoted to its success. It is, therefore, equitable and just that the leadership of our party affords due consideration to Osun West.

“Osun West is not only abundant in political dedication but also in credible and capable aspirants poised to lead our party to victory. We possess men and women of proven integrity, administrative acumen, and grassroots appeal who can be the torchbearers of the APC in the state. These individuals, drawn from diverse backgrounds, have demonstrated unwavering loyalty to the party and embody the leadership qualities requisite to reclaim Osun State from the current administration’s grasp.”

He revealed that it is known to all that Osun West has long been underrepresented in terms of gubernatorial leadership, having not had an opportunity to represent progressives in the highest state office for 26 years of current Republic.

He added that, “By prioritizing a candidate from Osun West, the APC would send a strong message of unity, demonstrating that the party recognizes and values the contributions from every part of the state. Also, supporting Osun West aligns with the democratic principles of rewarding loyalty and commitment, as the district has consistently shown strong support for the APC yet, lacks proportional political rewards.

AbdulGafar added that the agitations is not just an individual’s dream but rather a regional movement aimed at recalibrating the political landscape to ensure no single group is continually marginalised.

The group also called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Chief Bisi Akande, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola, Senator Ajibola Basiru, Alhaji Tajudeen Lawal and other APC leaders to consider the strategic implication of zoning the governorship to Osun West.

While expressing confidence that APC will win Osun State back if the ticket is zoned to Osun West in 2026, he added that this act will significantly enhance the electoral success of the APC in future elections, especially the 2026 gubernatorial election and demonstrate the party’s commitment to just political processes and its dedication to fostering a unified state where every district’s voice is heard and valued.

“Our commitment is not only to pursue balance within our political party but also to set a precedent for inclusive and reflective politics. With widespread community support and a vision that resonates across various demographics in Osun, this pursuit reflects democratic ideal that should be celebrated and supported.”

Meanwhile, leaders of the party in the Osun West Senatorial District have called on different groups within the party in the state to suspend all memos and communiqués regarding the party’s candidacy.

This decision was reached at an Osun West Senatorial District APC stakeholders meeting in Iwo on Friday.

At the meeting, the stakeholders unanimously agreed that former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola has the right of first refusal for the party’s gubernatorial ticket.

The meeting, presided over by the Chairman of the Caucus, Akin Omolaoye, passed a vote of confidence in the party’s leadership at both the national and state levels, emphasizing that the APC will field the best candidate to win the 2026 governorship election in the state.

Omolaoye stated that Oyetola remained the party’s ticket holder unless he decides not to contest.

Speaking at a press conference in Osogbo, the state capital, the coordinator of the group, Ajijola Ayodeji, noted that allocating the party ticket to the west would demonstrate that the APC values every zone within the state equally, thereby rallying widespread support and enthusiasm.

He added that the zoning would address the issue of imbalance and promote inclusivity, empowering Osun West to fully participate and lead in the development of our state alongside other districts.

He said, “As we journey toward the 2026 gubernatorial election, the aspiration of the Osun West agenda will be at the forefront of our campaign. “Moreover, leaders emerging from Osun West bring diverse perspectives and ideas that can enrich our party’s policies and programs, fostering innovation and growth. The district is home to individuals with strong leadership qualities, integrity, and dedication, who have proven their mettle in various capacities.

“Zoning to Osun West also aligns with the spirit of the APC’s foundational vision, which emphasizes fairness, unity, and national integration. It would resonate positively with the broader electorate, showcasing our commitment to balanced development and equal participation across all regions.

PDP Leader, Utaan advocates zoning National Chairmanship to Benue North West

A Peoples Democratic Party Chieftain, Conrad Terhide Utaan, has backed calls for the zoning of the National Chairmanship position of the party to the North-Central, saying it was the right thing to do since the ousted National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, was from the zone.

He noted that his position on the matter is in line with the provisions of the constitution of the party to the effect that a replacement for an ousted official be made from his area.

Utaan who is also a National Chairmanship aspirant, during a press briefing in Abuja, said the rationale for ceding the position to the North-Central should also be applied to the Benue situation and handed to the Benue North-West (Zone ‘B’) Senatorial District where Dr Ayu hails from.

He, however, noted that the decision is the National Executive Council, NEC of the party to make and would be binding on all party men.

He said, ”It will be a gross negation of the principle supporting the ceding of the position to North-Central should anyone outside of Zone B takes the position. It will be a miscarriage of justice which will be unacceptable to us, the people of that zone.

”But if NEC in its wisdom interprets the laws of the party to the effect that the current Acting National Chairman, Umar Iliya Damagun, should continue with the good work he and other members of the National Working Committee, NWC are doing, I will accept the decision in good faith and continue to give maximum support to the party a loyal faithful”.

Reacting to allegations of unseating Iyorcha Ayu, Utaan maintained that it was a court ruling which interpreted that the Ward Executives had the constitutional powers to suspend Dr Ayu’s membership, which led to his ousting from the position.

”I went to court to seek legal interpretation of the crisis which resulted following the suspension of Dr Ayu from his membership of the party by his native Igyorov Ward Executives of the party. But there was the counter-argument that the Ward Executives had suspended his membership of the party and not his position as National Chairman.

”I sought the intervention of the court to clear the confusion and it was the court which in its wisdom held that the Ward Executives had the constitutional powers to suspend Dr Ayu’s membership for the reasons they gave. And that having lost his membership of the party, he could not validly hold the position of National Chairman”.
