United Arab Emirates President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has accepted Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s invitation to visit Nigeria this year.
The Nigerian leader invited him Wednesday night during their bilateral talks on the sidelines of the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2025
President Tinubu arrived in Abu Dhabi on Sunday as a guest of the UAE President to participate in the Sustainability Week, a forum for exchanging ideas to support sustainable development worldwide and encourage collective action to address global challenges, such as climate change, water and energy crises.
He delivered Nigeria’s position on climate and other challenges earlier on Wednesday and congratulated the UAE leader for the successful event.
During the discussions, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan thanked the Nigerian leader for accepting his invitation and expressed the UAE’s determination to strengthen economic cooperation between Nigeria and his country.
The two leaders also explored attracting investment into Nigeria.
President Tinubu said his government’s economic reforms are yielding fruits and called on the UAE to partner with Nigeria to develop the economy.
He said the reforms had stabilised and grown the economy, encouraging foreign investors, including international oil companies, to announce billion-dollar investments, signalling renewed confidence in doing business with Africa’s most populous nation.
President Tinubu thanked Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan for the warm reception he and his aides received since their arrival over the weekend.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Yusuf Tuggar, Minister of Finance Wale Edun, and the National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu accompanied President Tinubu to the meeting at the Emirates Palace Mandarin Oriental in Abu Dhabi.
Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs; Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Court for Special Affairs; and H.H. Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan accompanied the UAE President.
Other UAE officials at the meeting were: Reem bint Ebrahim Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation; Dr Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and Salem Saeed Al Shamsi, UAE Ambassador to Nigeria.
Senator Ali Ndume, representing Borno South Senatorial District in the National Assembly, visited the headquarters of the Nigerian Army’s Joint Task Force, North East, ‘Operation Hadin Kai,’ in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State.
During the visit, Senator Ndume expressed his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the Boko Haram attack on Sabon Gari Village in the Damboa Local Government Area last Saturday.
The Senator’s visit was also an opportunity to evaluate the military’s efforts in combating insurgency and to commend their dedication to safeguarding lives and property.
He also prayed for the swift recovery of those injured in the Damboa attack.
. Assures Eastern Rail Line Will Be Completed, And Anambra Basin ‘ll Receive Devt. Support
President Bola Tinubu has extolled Gov Peter Mbah of Enugu State for his leadership and commitment to development, describing him as a “focused and result-oriented leader”.
Tinubu made the commendation during his first official visit to Enugu on Saturday where he inaugurated several projects.
He said that Mbah was doing a fantastic job and he was glad that Enugu was making great strides.
“I salute Peter Mbah for his commitment to development. You’ve built a solid team, and I’ve reviewed a number of things with you in Abuja.
“You’ve impressed me with the technological advancements in the state and the support you’ve garnered from the private sector. I know your background, he said.
Tinubu called for unity across political divides, urging leaders to focus on the nation’s progress.
“The election is over, and we have to move the nation forward. You’ve shown an unshakable commitment to human development. I don’t care which party you belong to; you’re my friend.
“You’re doing well and staying focused. Together, we must build this house called Nigeria, not just for today, but for tomorrow too,” he said.
The president also addressed his administration’s controversial removal of fuel subsidies, stating that it was important for the nation’s future.
“That’s why the removal of the fuel subsidy was necessary. We can’t spend the future of generations yet unborn in advance. Let’s not bankrupt the nation before they’re even born,” he said.
The president commended Mbah’s focus on security and investment in safety measures, particularly the establishment of the Distress Response Squad.
“I’m proud of Nigeria, and Mbah is proud of Nigeria. He’s doing everything possible to provide security and attract investors locally and internationally.
“There’s no better investment than securing lives. I saw those cars for the Distress Response Squad, it’s the right move,” he noted.
He encouraged the people of Enugu to support Mbah in his development efforts.
“Please continue to work with your son, brother, and friend, Peter Mbah. He’s truly committed to driving Enugu forward and being a positive symbol for the southeast,” he advised.
The president earlier inaugurated some projects physically and virtually built by Gov Mbah including 30 Smart Green Schools, International Conference Center, 19 kilometer urban roads and 150 Distress Response vehicles. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
However, President Bola Tinubu has made a firm commitment that his administration will complete the Eastern Rail line connecting Port Harcourt to Maiduguri.
President Tinubu gave the assurance during an interactive session with South East leaders during his official visit to Enugu State on Saturday.
The President also pledged that his administration would support the development of the Anambra Basin as a significant energy reserve.
The basin is estimated to hold up to 1 billion barrels of oil and 30 billion cubic feet of gas.
During the meeting, the President was attentive to the requests made by former Minister of Power Professor Chinedu Nebo and Enugu State indigene Chris Ugoh and responded with a commitment to address their concerns.
While applauding the Tinubu administration for completing the Port Harcourt to Aba section of the Eastern rail line, Nebo appealed to the President to prioritise the completion of the remaining portions of the rail link.
He emphasised the rail link’s potential to boost Nigeria’s non-oil exports and economic growth.
Ugoh noted that the Anambra Basin has the potential to support power generation and industrial feedstocks.
He appealed to the Federal Government to develop this resource to benefit the southeast and other regions of the country, including the Middle Belt and the North.
Onyemauche Nnamani, the National Commissioner representing the South East in the Police Service Commission, urged the Federal Government to implement modern security strategies in the region, akin to the statewide CCTV system and patrol cars with surveillance cameras in Enugu State.
Nnamani called on the federal government to de-emphasise the mounting of checkpoints and roadblocks in the region, saying, “It is inefficient and exposes our security personnel to attacks by non-state actors.”
Responding to the request for the rail line, President Tinubu reassured the audience, saying, “It is a work in progress. I inherited some of these critical problems and am committed to solving them.”
“On the support of the gas infrastructure. Sure, gas is an alternative to petrol. There is no wasting of time than to invest more in it. We will do it together, and I am lucky I have good governors. ”
Acknowledging the presence of various dignitaries, including governors, traditional rulers, captains of industry and serving and former presiding officers of the National Officer from the South East, President Tinubu praised former Senate President Ken Nnamani for saving Nigeria’s democracy from those who wanted to derail it with the Third Term project.
Earlier at the meeting, President Tinubu praised Governor Peter Mbah for his development model and philosophy after inaugurating several projects executed by the state government.
He pledged that the federal government would continue to support Enugu and other states in their development efforts.
Among the projects inaugurated by the President are the GTC Smart Green School, New Haven/Bisalla Road, the International Conference Center, the Command-and-Control Center, and 150 patrol vehicles equipped with surveillance cameras.
The President also performed the virtual commissioning of other notable projects from the Enugu State Government House.
At the inauguration of the Command-and-Control Center, the President said investment in security will bring rapid development.
“This is a profound demonstration of what we can do together. It reassures me that more revenue going to the sub-nationals and local government is not a waste. It is for development.
“We have committed leaders like Peter Mbah taking Enugu on the path of 21st-century development, taking Enugu to greater heights, and building our tomorrow today.
“I cannot forget the sight of those children I just met at the Smart Green School.
“I have seen the gadgets and vehicles with 21st-century technology. Yes, you are indeed working for today, tomorrow and the future.
“My good friend Peter, we can go places together to build Nigeria and build the future.
“It is audacious to have this home filled with technology, and they are ready for use. To promote investment, I know you are a private sector person, and we must encourage more private sector people to come into politics.
“When you are sure of security and development and give value for money, investors will be your friend,” he said.
President Tinubu further lauded the governor, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP, for demonstrating an irrevocable commitment to human development.
“I don’t care which party you come from; you are my friend. Alex Otti of Abia State is also doing very well. It is not about the differences in languages and place of birth.
“No one of us has control of the mother tongue. God created us, and you can find yourself in Enugu, Onitsha or Lagos. We are all members of one huge family called Nigeria, but we live in different rooms in the same house.
“We must build this house to satisfy our immediate and future needs,” he said.
At the interactive session, Governor Mbah described President Tinubu as a true federalist.
He commended the Tinubu administration for establishing the South East Development Commission and liberalising the electricity sector through the Electricity Act (Amendment).
He congratulated the President on being named ThisDay Man of the Year and acknowledged his efforts to revitalise Nigeria’s growth and economic resilience.
“Your Excellency, your credential as a true federalist stands out brightly, and the legacies thereof will long earn you resounding accolades.
“In signing the Electricity Act (Amendment) Bill, you liberalised electricity generation, transmission, and distribution. That singular act will consistently rank as an enduring legacy.
“It is noteworthy that Enugu State was the first sub-national to which the NERC ceded regulatory oversight of the local electricity market. That reflects how swiftly we are pursuing our goals,” he said.
According to the governor, the South East Development Commission will address infrastructure and ecological challenges in the region while complementing the many development strides unfolding across the state.
Governor Mbah reiterated his vision to grow Enugu’s economy from $4.4 billion to $30 billion within 4 years, aiming to position the state among Nigeria’s top three states in terms of GDP.
He said this grand dream can be achieved when security is guaranteed, quality education thrives, and citizens can access affordable healthcare.
The governor outlined the bold steps taken to enhance public safety in the state, including ending the illegal sit-at-home order imposed across the Southeast by a criminal gang and non-state actors.
”We no longer observe sit-at-home in Enugu. Our people go to work every day of the week, and we no longer take orders from non-state actors,” he said.
The governor told the President that some of the Smart Green Schools commissioned during the state visit were part of the modern schools introduced by his administration across 260 wards to equip students with 21st-century skills.
The governor explained that his administration has focused on primary healthcare, upgrading all 260 primary healthcare centres to maintain consistent quality, even in remote areas.
“All these infrastructural developments are mainly possible because of your bold initiatives.
“The courageous pronouncements you made to free up funds for development: the removal of fuel subsidy, the unification of the foreign exchange, and several social interventions that your government continues to provide for the people of this country.
“We are now essentially, with those funds freed, able to fully complete these projects. And it’s not just physical infrastructure; social and digital infrastructure are going on,” Governor Mbah said.
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has criticized the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) for its recent invitation to him, calling it disrespectful.
The NNPCL, through its spokesperson Olufemi Soneye, invited Obasanjo to tour the Port Harcourt and Warri refineries following comments he made during an interview on Channels Television.
In the interview, Obasanjo highlighted failed attempts to privatize the country’s refineries and lamented their poor management.
He revealed that a $750 million offer by Aliko Dangote to manage the Port Harcourt and Kaduna refineries was rejected by his successor, late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, in favor of NNPCL’s assurances that it could handle the operations—a claim Obasanjo doubted.
Obasanjo expressed frustration that over $2 billion has been spent on the refineries since 2007 with no tangible results. He also contrasted the inefficiency of government-run refineries with the expected success of Dangote’s privately owned refinery.
In response to the invitation, Obasanjo, speaking through his media aide Kehinde Akinyemi, criticized the NNPCL for failing to issue a formal letter and instead extending the invitation via a public statement.
He described the gesture as an insult to his office and person, stating, “Is that the right way to invite a former president? It is a total disrespect for the office.”
The NNPCL spokesperson claimed the refineries had undergone extensive rehabilitation and invited Obasanjo to witness the progress.
However, previous report shows that the Port Harcourt refinery revealed limited activity, with truck loading operations inconsistent and workers reporting ongoing calibration.
Reacting to the incident, Yoruba socio-political group Afenifere and the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) criticized the NNPCL for its approach, calling it disrespectful and politically motivated.
Afenifere’s Secretary-General, Chief Sola Ebiseni, emphasized that Obasanjo’s critique was valid, given years of mismanagement of Nigeria’s refineries. CUPP’s National Secretary, Chief Peter Ameh, added that Obasanjo’s remarks highlighted the need for private-sector involvement to improve refinery operations and criticized the NNPCL for prioritizing politics over efficiency.
Despite the ongoing doubts about the refineries’ functionality, NNPCL Group Chief Executive Officer Mele Kyari announced on December 31 that the Warri Refinery had resumed operations. However, skepticism remains among Nigerians about the true state of the refineries.

It might have been a while since Santa Claus graced your chimney.
But Kaley Cuoco’s video of her and fiancé Tom Pelphrey’s daughter Matilda, 18 months, experiencing her very first visit from little Saint Nick will remind you of those Christmas days of old and the magic of waking up to a visit from Santa himself.
In the adorable video the Big Bang Theory alum shared to her Instagram Story Dec. 25, Kaley and Tom hold hands with Matilda as they lead her towards their Christmas tree. And when Matilda catches sight of the magically-appeared presents, she lets go of her parents and quickly runs towards her haul—stuffed bunny rabbit in hand.
From there, the toddler—dressed in Grinch PJs—eyes her presents in wonder, slowly reaching out to investigate.
As Kaley captioned the adorable clip, “When you see what the ‘ho ho’ brought you for the first time.”
What follows on the 39-year-old’s Story is an up close and personal look at Matilda’s gifts from Santa, including a Frozen toy set, a Minnie Mouse basketball hoop and even a toddler-sized pink Chevrolet.
A 22-year-old Nigerian lady narrates how a 36-year-old man she met through her mum’s friend blasted her after she refused to come to his house two days after they met for the first time.
This is contained in a long video she made available on her page via a popular social media platform, TikTok.
In the video, she mentioned that her mother had recently told her that a friend of hers had a discussion with a man who revealed that he was in need of a lady to marry.
After considering it, she asked her mother to give the man her number so he could reach out to her.
The lady mentioned that she learned the man’s age during their first meeting at his office, and he gave her the sum of ₦6,000 after dropping her off.
She went on to add that just two days after they met, the man asked her to come to his house to get to know her better.
However, she felt it was too early and told him this.
The man responded, saying he needed to know her better, how she cooks, and also for her to get to know him very well.
However, the lady turned him down.
Following this, he began accusing her of looking for an already-made man and a place where she wouldn’t sow but could reap.
Her statement: “One Sunday when I just got back from church, I received a call from my mum. My mum was telling me about how one of her friends was talking to a man who said he needed a lady and wanted to settle down.”
“I was already getting mad at my mum. I really didn’t want you to be doing things like this.”
“After a second thought, I was like, tell your friend that she can give the man my number so we can talk. We started talking, myself and the man, and he told me he was in his mid-30s. I think he said 36 going on 37.”
“I was already losing it because I’m 22, and the age gap was too much. I really didn’t want to do this, but since it’s my mum and her friend, I believed they knew what was best for me.”
“When I started talking to this man, I didn’t like how our conversation went. He’s older than me, so we’re going to disagree a lot. I was like, let me manage. I can’t continue to shut people down.”
“When I got back to Abuja, he asked me to come to his office to meet him. I said no problem, and went to his office. We started talking, then we went to get food, and he asked me what I’d like to do after service.”
“I told him everything, and he was impressed. He then told me that he recently created an application and wanted me to use my knowledge to promote it, and also that he was going to pay me.”
“He decided to drop me off, and when he did, he squeezed ₦6,000 into my hand. I wasn’t expecting him to give me anything. From the onset, he had already struck me as one of those men who like to know you before they can give you money.”
“When I got home, we started texting, and two days after, he texted me asking me to come to his house. I said, ‘Isn’t it too early for you to be inviting me to your house?’ He replied, ‘Why are you acting like you’re a baby?’”
She made several other statements in the video, revealing that the man began using some harsh words against her just because she told him she wasn’t going to come to his house, as it was too soon.
Many individuals who came across the video stormed the comment section of the post to share their thoughts.

Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to President Bola Tinubu, has confirmed that the Port Harcourt Refinery is now operational.
In a post shared on his X account early Thursday, Onanuga revealed that he, along with a delegation, visited the refinery on Wednesday to verify its status.
This visit followed reports questioning the facility’s operational state, despite the management’s announcement that crude oil processing had resumed. The Port Harcourt Refinery officially restarted operations on November 26 after years of inactivity.
However, skepticism among Nigerians, fueled by concerns raised by some stakeholders, led to doubts about its revival.
After the inspection, Onanuga assured Nigerians that the refinery is indeed up and running, dismissing circulating misinformation.
During the visit, the delegation was taken on a guided tour of the refinery by its Managing Director, Ibrahim Onoja. Onanuga expressed satisfaction with the progress observed, noting that while the refinery is not yet operating at full capacity, it is functioning at 70% of its installed capacity, with plans underway to increase output.
“I was part of a fact-finding team that visited the 60,000 barrels daily Port Harcourt Refining Complex on Wednesday. I will now share our findings. Our mission was to verify the rumours circulating about the refinery’s state, and I am pleased to report that we were satisfied with what we saw.
“Our team, guided by the refinery’s Managing Director Ibrahim Onoja, toured the entire complex, from the computerised control room to the loading bay and every section in between. We asked pointed questions and received satisfactory answers, dispelling our doubts and misconceptions.
“Nigerians must ignore naysayers and false information about the refinery’s operations. While it is not currently running at 100%, it is functioning at 70% installed capacity, with plans to increase production shortly. Furthermore, the refinery receives regular crude supplies, contrary to claims that it lacks crude to refine.

Three months after completing her chemotherapy treatment, the Princess of Wales stepped out alongside her husband Prince William on Dec. 3 to welcome the Amir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and his wife, Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Hamad bin Suhaim Al Thani to the U.K. for a state visit.
For the occasion the mom of three, who shared in March she had been diagnosed with cancer, donned a burgundy wool coat dress by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen with a matching fascinator from Sahar Millinery.
In addition, Kate wore Garrard pearl diamond necklace from King Charles III’s collection of jewelry from his late mother, Queen Elizabeth II. For his part, William—who sported his latest beard—wore a black coat over a classic black suit.
Kate and William, both 42, were the first to greet the couple upon their arrival at a residence in London, before they all took part in the Horse Guards Parade, where they were greeted by King Charles at Buckingham Palace.
