The Zambia U20 Women’s National Team returned home after clinching the COSAFA U20 Women’s Championship 2024 trophy in South Africa. FAZ president Andrew Kamanga and FAZ general secretary Reuben Kamanga received the team.
Head of Delegation Tawanda Ndaba, captain Chitete Munsaka, and coach Charles Haalubono also spoke at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport in Lusaka.
Goalkeeper Mwila Mufunte received the Goalkeeper of the Tournament Award, Ruth Muwowo (joint top scorer with Adrielle Mibe of South Africa ), and Saliya Mwanza (Best Player). Lesotho received the Fair Play Award.
Zambia were crowned winners after a 1-0 victory over Mozambique gave them an unassailable lead at the top of the table. Zangose Zulu scored the only goal at the University of Johannesburg’s Soweto Campus to hand the Young Copper Queens the title with 12 points from four matches. They scored 19 goals and conceded none in a dominant display.
Zambia entered their final match on Saturday with the championship within their grasp, needing only a draw to secure the crown.
