Ugandan security forces were on a roll on Wednesday, UPDF travelling to BUL and picking a 2-0 victory and Police beating struggling Wakiso Giants 2-1 in Kavumba.
Christopher Kamagu and Brian Kalumba netted for the soldiers in Lugazi, BUL’s home ground this StarTimes Uganda Premier League season, while Isaac Ogwang and Brian James Obedi got the policemen’s goals against Wakiso. Abdul Ssemakula scored Wakiso’s consolation.
UPDF managed a double over BUL last season, and they seem to be determined to repeat the same this campaign.
The army men took the lead in Lugazi when Ronald Kayondo’s pass released Kamagu on the right, the latter then blitzed through a wobbly BUL defence to score the opener on 26 minutes.
With three minutes to the end of the match, Shakibu Mayanja produced more magic for the visitors, dancing through BUL defence after a short corner kick to set up Kalumba, the latter killing the game off.
This was UPDF’s fourth win in 11 matches and quite a progressive recovery from a 4-0 defeat to Kitara and 2-2 draw with Police in their last outing. The soldiers lie sixth on 16 points, six behind leaders NEC.
For BUL, their third defeat in 11 matches, in which they have also drawn five, means they are now winless in four consecutive games. They lie three places below UPDF in ninth on 14 points.
At Kavumba, two teams struggling for a win met with Police carrying the day. The Cops had drawn all their last three matches but that came to an end thanks to Ogwang and Obedi’s goals in either half, with Ssemakula getting Wakiso’s consolation in between.
Police have now won three times, drawn seven and lost one to sit fourth in the log with 16 points.
On the other hand, Wakiso Giants have now gone eight matches without victory, and have won only two out of 11. The Purple Sharks are a place above relegation on nine points. Only a point separates them from the last three.
Matchday 11 of the league continues on Thursday, with Mbarara City hosting Maroons at Kakyeka, and in-form NEC visiting URA at Nakivubo.
