President Bola Tinubu has postponed Tuesday’s scheduled 2025 national budget presentation to both houses of the National Assembly.
The N47.9 trillion 2025 Budget was earlier scheduled to be presented to the legislators, but reports within the National Assembly as obtained by DAILY POST correspondent indicated that the presentation has been shifted to Wednesday, 18th December 2024.
The reasons for the postponement were not immediately confirmed, a top National Assembly management confirmed that Wednesday’s presentation was sacrosanct.
The official said a statement to that effect will be officially released in a few hours time
The Supreme Court on Monday in Abuja imposed a N5 million fine on a former presidential candidate, Ambrose Albert Owuru, for harassing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu with a frivolous and vexatious suit.
Owuru, who contested the 2019 presidential election against former President Muhammadu Buhari on the platform of the Hope Democratic Party (HDP), was ordered to pay the N5 million to Tinubu.
Justice Uwani Musa Aba-Aji issued the order against the former presidential candidate while dismissing his fresh suit praying for the removal of Tinubu as Nigeria’s President.
Apart from the N5 million fine, the apex court ordered its Registry not to accept any frivolous originating summons from Owuru again.
At Monday’s proceedings, Owuru, who claimed to be a lawyer called to the Nigerian Bar in 1984, sought to argue his own case wearing his wig and gown.
He was ordered out of the Bar and directed to remove his wig and gown before he could be allowed to argue his case.
Upon complying with the orders, Owuru was asked why he came before the court again, having had his suits dismissed three times.
Although he tried to convince the Apex Court to grant him adequate audience, his explanations were rejected as unconvincing.
Justice Aba-Aji ruled that Owuru’s conduct was unbecoming of a lawyer of over 40 years, as he claimed to be.
In the end, the Court dismissed his suit and ordered him to pay Tinubu N5 million.
It will be recalled that the Court of Appeal had previously imposed a fine of N40 million on Owuru, to be paid to Tinubu, INEC, and others, for filing a suit against them.
The new suit, marked SC/CV/667/2023, prayed the Apex Court to sack Tinubu on two major grounds: alleged non-qualification to hold office as Nigeria’s President and alleged usurpation of the office in contravention of the law.
Defendants in the suit were former President Muhammadu Buhari, the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and Tinubu as 1st to 4th defendants, respectively.
Owuru, a British-trained lawyer called to the Nigerian Bar in 1984, insisted that he won the 2019 presidential election but alleged that his tenure was usurped by Buhari for eight years.
He claimed that his suit at the Supreme Court, which would have removed Buhari from office, was technically jettisoned by the Apex Court due to a mix-up in hearing dates.
He also prayed the Apex Court to disqualify Tinubu on account of the forfeiture of $460,000 to the United States of America over an alleged drug trafficking-related offense.
Besides the alleged forfeiture, Owuru accused Tinubu of being an active agent of the CIA, a position he claimed disqualified Tinubu from holding the office of President of Nigeria.
Specifically, Owuru prayed the Supreme Court to invoke Section 157 of the 1999 Constitution to remove Tinubu from office on the grounds of being under the control of foreign authorities.
He also asked the Supreme Court to declare him Nigeria’s President and order his immediate inauguration to reclaim his alleged usurped mandate.
The North-Central All Progressives Congress, APC, Forum has backed President Bola Tinubu for a second term in office.
The APC Forum, in a statement released after a meeting in Abuja on Sunday, said the North-Central would stand behind the President in the 2027 presidential election.
The statement, signed by Chairman of the North-Central APC Forum, Alhaji Saleh Zazzaga, stressed that the Forum decided to endorse Tinubu for a second term because his administration had extended several opportunities to the North-Central zone since he assumed office as President in 2023.
DAILY POST reports that the development is coming on the heels of emerging opposition to Tinubu’s reelection by foremost northern socio-political body, the Arewa Consultative Forum, ACF, and its youth wing, Arewa Youth Consultative Forum, AYCF.
In a recent communique signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Professor Tukur Muhammad-Baba, the ACF announced that it would support northerners running for the presidency in 2027.
Also, the AYCF, in a statement by its President, Alhaji Shettima Yerima, said the North regrets supporting Tinubu in the 2023 elections.
The group warned that the North might oppose Tinubu’s reelection bid in 2027 unless significant changes are made to improve the country’s socio-economic conditions.
However, the APC North-Central Forum, while endorsing Tinubu, said the zone had benefited immensely from Tinubu’s administration, especially in the areas of infrastructure, appointments and security.
The APC Forum declared that the North-Central has never had it so good under any administration, since Nigeria returned to democratic rule in 1999.
Parts of the statement read, “Rising from a meeting in Abuja during the weekend, the North-Central APC Forum has decided to endorse President Bola Tinubu for a second term in office.
“After assessing the state of the nation, the North-Central APC Forum is of the view that President Bola Tinubu has done well to earn a second term in office.
“An assessment of President Bola Tinubu’s policies also shows that he is taking the country in the right direction and deserves the support of all Nigerians to get the country there.
“The Forum equally evaluated the programmes and initiatives of the Federal Government and it is evident that, since the current democratic dispensation in Nigeria, no other President has given the North-Central as many opportunities as much as President Bola Tinubu.
“No other President has brought as many infrastructural projects to the North-Central as the President Tinubu administration.
“If it is possible, we are also calling on the President to extend more developmental projects to the North-Central, while assuring him of our continued support and loyalty. We believe that President Tinubu will assent to the Bill for the establishment of North Central Development Commission (NCDC), when passed by the National Assembly.
“The current level of insecurity in the North-Central is less than what was obtainable during previous administrations. Before now, it was difficult for our people, who are mostly farmers, to go to their farms because of insecurity.
“But now, due to the leadership provided by Mr President who has given marching orders to the Armed Forces and other security agencies, the people can now go to farm to cultivate and harvest their crops.”
Continuing, the APC Forum expressed confidence in Tinubu’s ability to revamp Nigeria’s economy, noting that policies introduced by the President would eventually turn things around.
“The economic policies introduced by President Tinubu are already making the expected impact, with the recent strengthening of the Naira in the foreign exchange market, improvement in volume of oil production, and rise in foreign reserves, among others.
“President Tinubu’s policies in the petroleum sector have already eliminated scarcity, and we believe that, with time, Nigerians will witness reduction in the cost of petroleum products, which would reverse inflation in the county.
“The APC North-Central Forum believes President Bola Tinubu deserves a second term to midwife these reforms which are already bearing fruit, and we call on all Nigerians to support his administration to improve the situation in the country.
“After extensive considerations, North-Central APC Forum has given the President a passmark on insecurity, appointments, infrastructure, economy and other areas.
“We stand firmly behind President Tinubu as his bold leadership has brought significant progress to our region, and we believe he is the right person to continue leading Nigeria towards greater prosperity.
“We urge all Nigerians to rally behind the President and support him for a second term, to enable his administration to deepen the gains of his reform policies.
“Just as we worked for his election in 2023, the North-Central APC Forum assures President Tinubu and all his supporters that we will again work for his reelection in 2027.”
Two Plateau House of Representatives members elected on the platform of the Labour Party – Alfred Ajang Illiya and Daniel Chollom – recently defected to the APC.
The APC Forum said the development is an indication of the overwhelming support Tinubu enjoys in the North-Central.
“The recent defection of some members of the House of Representatives, elected on the platform of the Labour Party, LP, to our great party, the APC, in Plateau State, is a sign that President Tinubu is widely accepted in the North-Central.
“We expect more defections of lawmakers and other political office holders elected on the platform of other parties to the APC in the North-Central in the coming days.
“The North-Central APC Forum is assuring the President of the full support of the zone in all his policies and programmes, and we are backing him for a second term in 2027,” the group stated.

.As FG clears N85bn, $54m community levy
President Bola Tinubu has urged leaders in West Africa to draw inspiration from Ghana’s recent peaceful elections as a model of democratic maturity and commitment to national unity.
This is as the federal government confirmed it has paid its ECOWAS community levy of N85 billion and 54 million dollars for 2023 and up to July 2024.
Speaking at the opening of the 66th Ordinary Session of ECOWAS on Sunday in Abuja, President Tinubu lauded President Nana Akufo-Addo and the people of Ghana for the resounding success of their recent presidential and parliamentary elections, setting a high standard for the region.
“I urge all of us in the region to learn from this good democratic practice and prioritise our country’s national unity to ensure political stability of the region so that this manner of peaceful transition becomes the culture of democracy not only in West Africa but also in the entire Africa continent,” he stated.
“Despite the challenges of interrupted democratic governance in some West African countries, the region has continued to record democratic gains. Just a week ago, on December 7 2024, Presidential and Parliamentary elections took place in Ghana, the second-largest democracy in our region.
“One of the leading candidates who happens to be the incumbent Vice President, His Excellency Mahamudu Bawumia, together with the leadership of the ruling party, New Patriotic Party (NPP), conceded defeat and accepted the outcome of the Presidential election by congratulating the President-elect, His Excellency, John Dramani Mahama of National Democratic Congress (NDC) for his victory, even before the official announcement of the election results.
“This gesture, as it happened in Nigeria in 2015, demonstrates political maturity and respect for the will of the people of Ghana.
President Tinubu praised President Akufo-Addo for his exceptional leadership and unwavering commitment to ECOWAS during his two-year term, describing him as a formidable Pan-Africanist.
President Tinubu also congratulated the Government and people of Senegal on their successful parliamentary elections.
He praised Ghana’s Foreign Minister, Shirley Ayokor Botchwey, for painstakingly leading the ECOWAS Ministerial Committee of the Reform.
He wished her a successful tenure in her new role as the Secretary General of the Commonwealth.
In his second term as ECOWAS Chair, President Tinubu highlighted achievements from his first term, including strides in regional integration, economic growth, conflict resolution, and counterterrorism efforts.
He said the ECOWAS Trade Liberalisation Scheme (ETLS) and Common External Tariff (CET) have strengthened trade and economic cooperation.
“Similarly, regional infrastructure projects such as the West African Gas Pipeline, the West Africa Power Pool, and modernising key border posts with advanced equipment and joint border operations utilising state-of-the-art technology have significantly enhanced connectivity and promoted greater regional integration.
“Furthermore, our efforts in stabilising our region through peacekeeping missions currently in the Gambia and Guinea Bissau, as well as previous operations in Liberia and Sierra Leone, have demonstrated our capacity to act decisively in the face of adversity.
President Tinubu said the ECOWAS Regional Action Plan on the Fight Against Terrorism has provided a comprehensive framework to combat violent extremism and enhance regional security.
As ECOWAS nears its 50th anniversary in 2025, President Tinubu urged member states to recommit to the bloc’s founding ideals of economic integration, peace, and prosperity.
“As a regional community, we must maintain our fundamental responsibility: to protect our citizens and create an enabling environment where they can prosper.
“As leaders, we know that security is not a luxury but a necessity. Equally, enhancing the living standards of our people is not an aspiration but an obligation,” he said.
The Presidents of Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, The Gambia, Guinea Bissau, Liberia, and Senegal attended in person alongside the Vice President of Sierra Leone, the Finance Minister of the Benin Republic, the Minister of foreign affairs of Togo, and the Ambassador of Cape Verde to Nigeria.
The President of the ECOWAS Commission, Dr Omar Touray, commended Nigeria for paying 100 per cent of its community levy for 2023 and substantial remittances for 2024, reflecting Nigeria’s leadership and commitment under President Tinubu.
“For the first time in 19 years, Nigeria has paid 100% of its community levy from 2023. I’m therefore pleased to announce that on Friday, December 13, 2024, Nigeria paid N85 billion and $54 million, representing 100% of the 2023 levy and the 2024 levy up to July 2024.
“We all agree that this payment underscores the leadership and commitment of President Tinubu, the government and the people of Nigeria to our community. At a more personal level, it represents confidence in the management I have been privileged to lead since 2022.
He encouraged other member states to meet their financial commitments diligently.

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has filed a lawsuit against President Bola Tinubu for allegedly failing to instruct the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), to collaborate with anti-corruption agencies in investigating the alleged mismanagement, diversion, or theft of over ₦57 billion in public funds from the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation in 2021.
The allegations are based on the 2021 audit report from the Office of the Auditor-General of the Federation, which uncovered significant financial irregularities.
The suit, filed last Friday at the Federal High Court in Lagos (suit number FHC/L/MISC/876/2024), lists Fagbemi as a respondent.
SERAP is asking the court to compel President Tinubu to direct Fagbemi to launch an investigation into the alleged misuse of funds, prosecute those found responsible, and recover the missing money where evidence permits.
SERAP stressed the importance of accountability, stating, “Investigating and prosecuting those responsible for the missing ₦57 billion, and recovering the funds, would end the impunity of perpetrators.” The organization described the alleged misconduct as “stealing from the poor” and highlighted the public interest in ensuring justice.
The 2021 audit report revealed multiple cases of financial mismanagement within the ministry, including:
Other flagged funds include ₦287 million paid to contractors without documentation and discrepancies involving ₦729 billion, currently under judicial review.
SERAP’s legal team, Kolawole Oluwadare and Oluwakemi Agunbiade, argued that granting their reliefs would significantly curb corruption in ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs), while addressing Nigeria’s budget deficit and debt issues.
The group cited constitutional and international anti-corruption obligations, urging the government to act to ensure accountability, restitution, and justice for Nigerians impacted by the misuse of public funds.
According to reports, no hearing date has been set for the case.
A former speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, has said President Bola Tinubu is determined to take on stubborn tasks because he is prepared to lead Nigeria at any cost.
Dogara cautioned Nigerians against abandoning Tinubu’s reforms because “things are hard.”
Dogara spoke on Saturday at the 14th convocation ceremony of the Achievers University, Owo, while declaring his support for Tinubu’s reforms.
He applauded Tinubu’s local government reforms and the tax reform bills.
The former Speaker stressed that the local government tax reform was a “master stroke.”
He said: “We have practised this model of leadership that is based on weakness. It has taken us nowhere.
“The president reforms in local government has reinforced more leadership to the third tier of government. What the president did with the local government was a master stroke.
“To give in to cheap argument because things are tough and he should back off is cowardice. We are having a leader who is courageous.
“With what President Bola Tinubu has done, whether it’s the freeing of local government areas from the choke-hold of economic stagnation the states had hitherto subjected them to or the groundbreaking bold tax reforms proposals he had placed before the National Assembly, I see a glimmer of hope that we may be dealing with a leader who is prepared to lead with unbridled courage even at personal cost.
“It gladdens my heart that we are now dealing with a leader who is not avoiding stubborn tasks and very much unwilling to put off difficult conversations.”
President Bola Tinubu recently introduced the Tax Reform bills before the National Assembly.
The bills have, however, stirred controversy among Nigerians.
But Tinubu assured that he would always act in the interest of Nigerians.
President Bola Tinubu, state governors and other leaders in the country have been charged to see themselves as servant leaders if they are to succeed in impacting effectively on the citizenry.
The Brotherhood of the Cross and Star, BCS, which issued the charge on Saturday, said leaders would also do well to demonstrate love for their fellow citizens and lead them with the fear of God.
Deputy spokesman of the BCS, Archbishop Emmanuel Ekuri who spoke at a press briefing in Yola Saturday morning, said the virtues of servant leadership, love for humanity and fear of God which were the teachings of founder of the organisation, Olumba Olumba Obu, are necessary for progress in any society.
Stressing that such virtues are particularly vital these trying times, the BCS deputy spokesman said leaders should in addition seek God’s divine intervention over the problems besieging the nation.
He advised leaders to stop searching vainly for peace from men and focus on the peace that comes from God, for God alone can give peace to the world.
The Brotherhood of the Cross and Star hosted its press briefing in Yola and three other centres around the country as a prelude to activities lined up for this year’s celebration of the founder, Olumba Obu.
The activities include the 6th edition of Leader Olumba Olumba Obu Annual Public Lecture holding in Port Harcourt next Saturday, December 21; the 2024 edition of the Celebration of the Divine Manifeststion of the Ancient of Days opening ceremony on December 23 at the BCS World headquarters in Calabar; charity works by CBS members on December 24, among other activities to be rounded up on December 31 with the CBS Art and Merit Award and Cross over night.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio has revealed that President Bola Tinubu appointed Nyesom Wike as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) due to his exceptional competence and track record.
Akpabio noted that despite Wike being a member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), President Tinubu was impressed by his achievements as Rivers State Governor.
The Senate President made these remarks on Friday during a book launch held in Port Harcourt to celebrate Wike’s 57th birthday.
In a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media, Jackson Udom, Akpabio highlighted Wike’s remarkable impact on transforming Abuja within two years through extensive projects.
“Let me explain why President Tinubu included you in the Federal Executive Council, even as an opposition politician,” Akpabio said.
“Your exceptional performance as a local government chairman, Chief of Staff to the Rivers State Government, Minister, and two-term Governor earned you this role.
“You have made us proud as the FCT Minister, turning Abuja into a model city that truly represents a nation’s capital. You are a committed public servant with no tolerance for excuses when it comes to delivering results.
“In under two years, you’ve turned Abuja into a vibrant construction hub,” he added.
Akpabio commended Wike for his dedicated service to the nation in various leadership roles, describing him as a purposeful leader committed to uplifting communities and driving development.
“Today we gather to celebrate not just the years in your life, but the life in your years. We have come to honour not just the duration of your life but the donation of your life and the countless ways you’ve enriched the lives of the people around you.
“Born in the tumultuous year of 1967, when the fabric of our nation was being tested in the fires of conflict, you emerged, my dear Wike, not in the safety of calm waters but amid the storm itself. You might have chosen to arrive in more tranquil times, but instead, you bravely came forth into the fray.
“It is perhaps this very fortitude that has shaped your character, allowing you to rise like an eagle, soaring high above the tempests that beset us.
“As a two-term governor, you have been a leader of the people, a visionary who acts with purpose, and a friend whose care for others knows no bounds. Your dedication to uplifting communities, as a Governor and now as an Honourable Minister, has left an indelible mark upon our nation’s history.
“The bridges you have constructed—both of steel and of spirit—stand as testaments to your commitment to progress and unity. I recognized the fire within you long before you stepped into the public arena; you were, indeed, a secret waiting to be unveiled for the nation to behold.
“Your contributions to the political landscape of Nigeria, particularly during your governorship, shine like a beacon of hope. Your charismatic leadership and staunch advocacy for the rights of your constituents have focused on the pillars of infrastructure, education, and healthcare.
“Your passion for sports, particularly football, and your commitment to nurturing the talents of our youth reflect your unwavering belief in the potential of the next generation. You have earned a reputation as a leader of uncompromising integrity, speaking truth in every circumstance even when the winds of injustice howl around you like a tempest,” he stated.
Senator Akpabio also commended Wike‘s family for their support to the FCT Minister.
“Let us not forget, on this auspicious day, the steadfast support of your beloved wife. She has stood beside you through trials and triumphs alike, her strength and encouragement complementing your leadership in extraordinary ways. Together, you exemplify a partnership that inspires countless souls, proving that love and unity can elevate a leader’s impact to unparalleled heights.
“Now, let us take a moment to appreciate your infectious spirit, which has the power to lighten the gravest of discussions with your wit and charm. You remind us that politics is not merely a realm of policies and procedures; it is, at its core, about people—about laughter, camaraderie, and the shared joy of our communities.
“May this birthday bring you as much joy as you have bestowed upon others, and may you embrace even more adventures, more successes, and an ever-increasing momentum in your noble service to our beloved fatherland. Here’s to another year of making a difference, inspiring change, and, of course, sharing that signature smile that warms our hearts!” Akpabio added.
