The 2024 edition of the annual Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN) Christmas Carol and thanksgiving service was held at the weekend. The well-attended event was held at the All Saints Anglican Church in the Yaba area of Lagos. President of the CIIN Mrs Yetunde Ilori led the institute’s members which included past presidents and other council members to the reading of a series of lessons. The Insurance Industry Mass Choir was on hand to render inspiring Christmas songs and demonstrations.
The Christmas carol is part of annual events organized by the institute to improve the social and moral health of insurance practitioners in the country. Other related events usually organized by CIIN include fitness walks, picnics, boot camps and outreach programmes to schools during which the institute sensitize students on issues relating to insurance as a career.
Below are faces at this year’s Xmas carol as captured by Champion Newspapers.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The first big snowfall of the season is blanketing towns in upstate New York along lakes Erie and Ontario in the middle of the hectic holiday travel and shopping weekend, while numbing cold and heavy snow could persist into next week and cause hazards in the Great Lakes, Plains and Midwest regions.
A state of emergency has been declared for parts of New York, causing problems for scores of Thanksgiving travelers trying to return home.
“Travel will be extremely difficult and hazardous this weekend, especially in areas where multiple feet of snow may accumulate very quickly,” the National Weather Service said Saturday.
Part of I-90 in Pennsylvania was closed Saturday, and as were westbound lanes of the New York Thruway heading toward Pennsylvania.
Nearly two feet (61 centimeters) of snow has already fallen in parts of New York, Ohio and Michigan and some 29 inches (73 centimeters) of snow was recorded in Pennsylvania’s northwestern tip.
This week’s blast of frigid Arctic air also brought bitterly cold temperatures of 10 to 20 degrees Fahrenheit below average to the Northern Plains, the weather service said. That prompted cold-weather advisories over parts of North Dakota.
Cold air was expected to move over the eastern third of the U.S. by Monday, the weather service said, with temperatures about 10 degrees below average.
Parts of Michigan were equally battered by heavy lake-effect snow. A winter storm warning was in effect Saturday through Sunday for regions along Lake Michigan. An additional accumulation of snow of up to 14 inches was expected for the Sault Ste. Marie area. Travel could be difficult or impossible, the weather service said.
While no snow is forecast in the Deep South, the temperatures have dipped below freezing.
“This is the start of our winter season,” said Sam Marlow, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Atlanta.
“This morning, we got below freezing for almost all of north and central Georgia.” And in the mountains of northern Georgia, the temperature dipped to about 22 degrees Fahrenheit (-5.5 Celsius)
“We are looking at the temps warming up during the day, getting up to about 50 degrees,” Marlow said.
By Tuesday morning, the low temperature could fall into the teens in isolated parts of Georgia, he said.
As flakes began flying Friday, New York state forecasters warned 4 to 6 feet (1.2 to 1.8 meters) of blowing and drifting snow could fall in Watertown and other areas east of Lake Ontario through Monday.
After an unusually mild fall, as much as 2 to 3 feet (0.6 to 0.9 meters) of snow were possible along Lake Erie and south of Buffalo from lake-effect bands notorious for pummeling the region with snowfall rates of 2 to 4 inches (5 to 10 centimeters) per hour. Lake-effect snow happens when warm moist air rising from a body of water mixes with cold dry air overhead.
“The lake is 50 degrees (10 degrees Celsius). We’re about six degrees above where we should be this time of year, that’s why we’re seeing these heavy lake-effect events,” Erie County Public Works Commissioner William Geary said. “The outlook for the next two weeks into December, we’ll probably see some more.”
New York Gov. Kathy Hochul declared a disaster emergency for the targeted counties, allowing state agencies to mobilize resources. Rapidly deteriorating conditions Friday caused closures along Interstate 90, and tandem and commercial vehicles were banned from Interstate 86 in western New York and much of U.S. Route 219 beginning Friday afternoon.
“There’s a considerable number of vehicles going off the road on the 219 currently,” Gregory Butcher, Erie County deputy director for preparedness and homeland security, said at an afternoon briefing.
ATVs and snowmobiles were being placed around the county to help first responders if necessary, Butcher said.
The Buffalo Bills called for volunteers to potentially shovel snow at Highmark Stadium, where over 2 feet (0.6 meters) of snow was possible before Sunday night’s game against the San Francisco 49ers. Last year, a major lake-effect storm forced the NFL to push back the Bills wild-card playoff home game against Pittsburgh from Sunday to Monday.
“It’s going to be slow going, there’s no doubt about that,” Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz said, adding the heaviest snow is expected to be over by kickoff.
The team, meanwhile, was preparing to play in any conditions.
“We’re trying to stay on top of it,” coach Sean McDermott said Friday.
The Bills are 9-2, their best start since 1992, and with a win Sunday they would clinch their fifth straight AFC East title.
Nick Cannon was booked and busy this Thanksgiving.
Indeed, as a dad of 12, the Wild ‘n Out comedian anticipated many stops in order to see all 12 of his children on Turkey Day.
“It’s very complicated. I’m a busy man on Thanksgiving,” Nick told People in an interview published Nov. 28, noting that he’ll attend “a bunch of dinners” that he has “got to go to.”
But the 44-year-old noted he would be sure to leave each destination satisfied thanks to his family’s knock-out cooking.
“I’m going to be full by the end of the day, but everybody specializes in certain things,” he explained. “Some people got good sweet potato pie, some people got amazing fried turkey. So I know every house that needs to have the things that I really like.”
These days, Nick is dad to 13-year-old twins Moroccan and Monroe with ex-wife Mariah Carey; Golden Sagon, 7, Powerful Queen, 3, and Rise Messiah, 2, with Brittany Bell; 3-year-old twins Zion Mixolydian and Zillion Heir, as well as daughter Beautiful Zeppelin, 2, with Abby De La Rosa; and son Legendary Love, 2, with Bre Tiesi.
Jessica Alba is soaking up some family time.
The Fantastic Four actress celebrated the Thanksgiving holiday Nov. 28 by sharing a photo taken alongside husband Cash Warren and their daughters Honor, 16, and Haven, 13, as well as son Hayes, 6. Jessica and her girls even seemed to coordinate their wardrobes as they each donned patterned sun dresses for the sunset photo.
“Happy Thanksgiving from me and mine to you and yours,” the 43-year-old captioned the Instagram post. “Sending lots of love and light.”
Honor and Haven have channeled their mom’s style before. In fact, the teens pulled outfits from the Honey star’s closet as they joined her for a rare mother-daughter red carpet outing in June.
“Throwing it back all the way to ‘07 and ‘10 in the sweetest way ever,” Jessica wrote on Instagram at the time. “For the screening of Trigger Warning, Honor wore my @prada dress from the 2007 premier of Valentine’s Day in London & Havie wore my @dolcegabbana dress from Comicon for Good Luck Chuck in 2010.”
And, he had a great playbook to build from in parents Galynn Brady and Thomas Brady, who supported his dream of heading to the NFL.
“When I was that long shot as a kid, who was the backup quarterback on a freshman team,” he recalled, “they never said, ‘Man, don’t do that. It’s gonna be too hard. Let’s do something different. Let’s think about another backup plan.’ They kinda said, ‘You know what? Go for it. Whatever you wanna be, go for it.'”
So when it comes to son Jack, who Tom says at 6-foot-5 has his sights set on basketball, the proud dad will never say it’s too high of a goal—even if Jack still has some skill building to do.
“Unfortunately he jumps as high as I do,” Tom joked of Jack. “But I tell him, ‘Dude, you’re gonna be a stud.’ I said, ‘Wait till you hit your growth spurt, you’re gonna be jumping higher, you’re gonna be dunkin’.’ And whether he does or not, who cares? But I want him to know that his dad’s got his back.”
This Thanksgiving feast was out of this world—literally.
Sunita “Suni” Williams and and Barry “Butch” Wilmore may be stranded in space for a little bit longer but the American astronauts still managed to stay grounded as they celebrated Thanksgiving aboard the International Space Station. And yep, that included all the trimmings—with a bit of a twist.
“We have a bunch of food that we’ve packed away that is Thanksgiving-ish,” Williams, 58, told NBC News from the ISS on Nov. 27 “Some smoked turkey, some cranberry, apple cobbler, green beans and mushrooms and mashed potatoes.”
However, their Thanksgiving prep may look a bit different to those celebrating from Earth as at the International Space Station all food is in dehydrated pouches until ready to be consumed.
But the turkey dinner isn’t the only tradition Williams, Wilmore and the five others aboard the ISS —including two American and three Russian astronauts—are partaking in. Williams revealed she planned on tuning into see Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb host the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade before tucking into their meal.
Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner Reunite on Thanksgiving to Help Feed the Homeless
Bruce Willis’ family is expressing gratitude.
The actor’s daughters Scout Willis and Tallulah Willis marked the Thanksgiving holiday by sharing new photos of some quality time with the Die Hard star on social media.
In the first of two Instagram pics posted Nov. 28, the 69-year-old sat on a couch with Scout, 33, who lovingly rested her hand on his chest while Tallulah, 30, gently rubbed his ear. For the second snap, the girls—whom Bruce shares with ex Demi Moore, along with Rumer Willis, 36—gave their dad loving looks as he held up a sign reading “Best Dad Ever.”
Along with the sweet photos, Tallulah offered a simple yet effective caption, writing, “Grateful.”
Bruce—who also shares daughters Mabel, 12, and Evelyn, 10, with wife Emma Heming Willis—was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia and aphasia in 2022. Since then, Emma has made a point to educate their young children about their dad’s condition.
While Jennifer, who split from Ben after two years of marriage on August, previously shared insight into what it was like when her “whole world f–king exploded,” she and the Oscar winner have proven there is no bad blood.
In fact, Ben, 51, recently wasn’t afraid to get loud when it came to praising his ex for her performance in Unstoppable, which he co-produced. While gushing about the cast, he told Entertainment Tonight, “Jennifer’s spectacular,” adding, “We believed in the right people, and Unstoppable is another example of that.”
As for how he spent his first Thanksgiving since the breakup? Well, Ben reunited with his first wife Jennifer Garner—with whom he shares Violet, 18, Seraphina, 15, and Samuel, 12—to give out Thanksgiving meals to those in need on Skid Row with The Midnight Mission.
“Today, we were honored to have Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner join us at The Midnight Mission for Thanksgiving,” the organization wrote on Instagram. “Their kindness, warmth, and dedication brought so much joy to our Skid Row community.”

No. 10: He Can Handle the Pressure
Not only has Travis played in four Super Bowls, winning three of them (NBD!), but he’s also hosted Saturday Night Live, so you know he can handle intense spotlight with ease.
That may seem trivial, but Taylor has penned several songs regarding her fear that her level of fame could prove to be too much for her romantic partner to handle. (See: “Peace” and “The Archer.”)
“It all depends who you’re with,” Taylor said in, “If they have a serious issue with it, I guess you’ll hide or whatever, but I don’t really like that, because it makes me feel like I’m running from the law or something. I don’t want to feel like a fugitive, like, ‘Oh my god, we’re having a relationship, better hide!’
“I feel like if you can be in a relationship and have it seem normal, that would be good.”
And in his WSJ interview, Travis proved he’s more than ready for the pressure that comes with dating someone as powerful as Taylor.
“Obviously I’ve never dated anyone with that kind of aura about them…I’ve never dealt with it,” he said. “But at the same time, I’m not running away from any of it.”
“The scrutiny she gets, how much she has a magnifying glass on her, every single day, paparazzi outside her house, outside every restaurant she goes to, after every flight she gets off, and she’s just living, enjoying life,” he added. “When she acts like that I better not be the one acting all strange.”
Heather Rae El Moussa didn’t waste any time shutting down her critics.
The Selling Sunset alum gave a sweet glimpse into how she and Tarek El Moussa celebrated their thanksgiving, sharing family snaps featuring their 22-month-old son Tristan, Tarek and ex Christina Haack’s son Brayden, 8. While both Heather and Tarek’s parents were along for the celebrations, Tarek and Christina’s daughter Taylor, 14, was noticeably absent. And Heather was quick to set the record straight on where the teen was.
“For the haters- Tay is on a trip with her mom,” the 37-year-old wrote to cap off her Nov. 28 Instagram post from the festive occasion, “that’s why she’s not in our photo.”
But before taking the time to curb any potential backlash, Heather detailed how the rest of the family celebrated Thanksgiving.
“We love the holidays and sharing this day with our loved ones,” she explained. “We are thankful for each other & the relationship that we have. A strong foundation to get through hard times together & to be able to grow together as husband and wife.”
Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade: Jennifer Hudson, Ariana Madix & More Stars Who Stole the Show!
These Modern Family stars’ Thanksgiving celebrations didn’t quite go to plan.
Because on Nov. 28, Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Julie Bowen—who played onscreen siblings Mitchell and Claire, respectively, in the beloved sitcom—each wound up in the emergency room with their children.
For her part, Julie—who shares sons Oliver, 17, and 15 year-old twins John and Gustav with ex-husband Scott Phillips—shared an image of one of her children standing in front of the emergency room.
She captioned the photo, “It’s not a holiday without a trip to the ER. (He’s fine, btw) HAPPY THANKSGIVING.”
But she wasn’t the only former TV Pritchett to find themselves spending the holiday with healthcare providers. As Jesse’s husband Justin Mikita commented on her post, “Us too.”
And indeed, shortly after Julie’s news, Jesse—who is dad to sons Beckett Mercer, 4, and Sullivan ‘Sully’ Louis, 2, with Justin—shared a picture of one of their kids lying on his chest from a hospital bed.
Thankfully, he had an older sister to turn to.
