WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — Donald Trump Jr. is heading to Greenland, visiting the Danish territory as his father has continued to stoke seemingly far-fetched suggestions that the U.S. could take control of it.
The younger Trump is going for a day trip to shoot video content for podcasting and will not be meeting with any government officials or political figures, according to a person familiar with the plans who was not authorized to speak publicly.
“I am hearing that the people of Greenland are ‘MAGA.’ My son, Don Jr, and various representatives, will be traveling there to visit some of the most magnificent areas and sights,” President-elect Donald Trump posted on his social media site on Monday night, referring to his “Make America Great Again” movement
“Greenland is an incredible place, and the people will benefit tremendously if, and when, it becomes part of our Nation,” the President-elect wrote. “We will protect it, and cherish it, from a very vicious outside World. MAKE GREENLAND GREAT AGAIN!”
Danish broadcaster DR cited the head of the Department of Foreign Affairs, Mininnguaq Kleist, in reporting that Trump Jr. would be arriving Tuesday for a private visit, and there are no inquiries about a meeting with the Greenland government.
Greenland’s prime minister, Múte B. Egede, hasn’t commented. The island is an autonomous territory that’s part of the Kingdom of Denmark.
Trump has had designs on Greenland before. In a statement last month as he announced his pick for U.S. ambassador to Denmark, he wrote, “For purposes of National Security and Freedom throughout the World, the United States of America feels that the ownership and control of Greenland is an absolute necessity.”
Trump’s eldest son has become a prominent player in his father’s political movement and has served on his presidential transition team, helping to select the people who will staff the incoming White House.
But Trump Jr. has said he has no plans to join his father’s administration, instead intending to stay a key supporter of his father and his agenda from the outside. He’s especially vocal online, where he often indulges in trolling and sharing memes and hosts his own twice-a-week podcast, “Triggered With Don Jr.”
Greenland media reported that Trump Jr. may meet with Erik Jensen, the chairman of the governing party Siumut and the island’s equivalent to finance minister. But the person familiar with his plans said that Trump Jr. wouldn’t meet with Jensen.
Also Monday, Elon Musk, the billionaire owner of Tesla and a close advisor to the President-elect, said on X, the social media site he owns, that “The People of Greenland should decide their future and I think they want to be part of America!”
During his first term, Trump mused about purchasing Greenland, which gained home rule from Denmark in 1979. He even canceled a scheduled trip to Denmark in August 2019 after its prime minister dismissed the idea.
The world’s largest island, Greenland sits between the Atlantic and Arctic oceans and is 80% covered by an ice sheet and is home to a large U.S. military base.
In response to Trump’s December statement, Egede said, “Greenland is ours.”
“We are not for sale and will never be for sale,” he said in a statement. “We must not lose our years-long fight for freedom.”
Greenland has its own parliament and government headed by Egede. New elections are expected to take place no later than April 6.
Aaja Chemnitz, a member of Greenland’s parliament wrote in a post on Facebook that people in Greenland need to get better at saying no to the President-elect, writing that it is “incredible that some can be so naive to think happiness is made by us becoming American citizens” and that she doesn’t “want to be a piece of Trump’s hot dreams of expanding his empire to include our country.”
“Don’t let Trump control the Greenland election campaign and leave the population as losers in that game,” Chemnitz wrote.

Everton Football Club taken over by The Friedkin Group, marking a new chapter in the history of one of England’s most valuable football institutions. The deal, which involved purchasing Farhad Moshiri’s 94% stake in the club, was finalized following approval by the Premier League board.
The Premier League confirmed that the Friedkin Group’s 98.8% acquisition had successfully passed the league’s stringent owners’ and directors’ test.
In a bid to rally Everton supporters, Dan Friedkin, the American businessman and film producer leading the Friedkin Group, penned a heartfelt message to fans via the club’s official website. In his letter, Friedkin expressed gratitude for the unwavering support of Evertonians and introduced Marc Watts as the incoming executive chairman of the club.
“Following the completion of the takeover of Everton Football Club, I want to express my gratitude for your continued support and introduce the incoming executive chairman of Everton, Marc Watts,” Friedkin wrote. “I take immense pride in welcoming one of England’s most historic football clubs to our global family, the Friedkin Group. Friedkin provided insight into the group’s diverse portfolio, which spans industries such as sports, automotive, entertainment, hospitality, and adventure. “Across all our endeavours, we strive to deliver extraordinary experiences that ignite people’s passions. We are thrilled to bring this ethos to Everton and the Liverpool city region,” he added.
Acknowledging the deep cultural and historical significance of Everton Football Club, Friedkin emphasized the group’s commitment to preserving the club’s heritage while fostering positive contributions to the local community. “Whilst we are new to the club, we fully understand the vital role Everton plays in local culture, history, and the lives of Evertonians here and around the world. We are deeply committed to honouring this legacy while contributing positively to the community, economy, and people of this remarkable city,” he said.
The letter concluded with a note of appreciation: “Once again, thank you for your continued support.”
The completion of this takeover heralds a new era for Everton Football Club, as the Friedkin Group prepares to work closely with the team, supporters, and the wider Liverpool community to usher in a promising future.
The Presidency has declared that President Bola Tinubu is not weak to allow room for the military to take power from him.
Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, made the remark in response to an editorial published by The Guardian, titled, ‘Misery, harsh policies driving Nigerians to desperate choices’.
In an open letter condemning the editorial, Onanuga accused the news platform of attempting to incite unrest against Tinubu’s administration.
The letter reads partly: “The Guardian newspaper’s lead story of Friday, October 25, 2024, with the title: “Calls for military intervention: misery, harsh policies driving Nigerians to desperate choices,” openly incites unrest against President Bola Tinubu’s administration and advocates for regime change under the guise of journalism. The inflammatory headline, cartoon and content deviate from responsible reporting.
“The Guardian’s agenda is unmistakable from the cover illustration to the article. In attempting to create a balanced veneer, the author condemns military rule while fanning the flames of military intervention.
“We must question how The Guardian can present an argument for military intervention while superficially denouncing it unless it harbours a deliberate agenda.
“We must question how The Guardian can present an argument for military intervention while superficially denouncing it unless it harbours a deliberate agenda. This latest editorial reflects a troubling trend in which the publication has persistently propagated inflammatory and negative narratives, stepping dangerously close to undermining the very fabric of responsible journalism.
“President Tinubu has consistently called for understanding and patience amid our nation’s challenges. This plea is not a sign of weakness but an affirmation of his dedication to a brighter future for Nigeria.”
It’s a Whatsapp conversation that’s shaking up Newcastle. Amanda Staveley, a former director of the club at the time of its takeover by Saudi Arabia, saw one of her private conversations revealed by the Telegraph.
In the messages, the latter half-heartedly claims that Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, leader of Saudi Arabia, himself orchestrated the takeover of the English club. While the Premier League has always maintained that it had received legal assurances that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia would not control Newcastle United Football Club.
A situation that could put the club from the north of England in difficulty. On the revealed exchanges, the British businesswoman explained during the negotiations that “the crown prince was losing patience” and that the governor of the PIF “was trying to convince the crown prince not to withdraw”. The revelations are making headlines in England as Saudi Arabia’s interest in Newcastle appears to have waned since the collapse of the Saudi Pro League.
The Peoples Redemption Party, PRP, has condemned the call from different quarters of Nigeria for a military takeover of the country.
The calls are coming in the wake of the nationwide protests against bad governance and hardship in the country.
The National Chairman of the PRP, Falalu Bello, condemned the coup calls in a statement on Wednesday, faulting those who decided to turn the protesters into a spree of violence and looting.
This is as he commended some Nigerian youths who have so far conducted themselves to protest peacefully.
Bello said that the military should be restricted to their constitutional responsibility of protecting the territorial integrity of Nigeria and assisting the Nigeria Police Force to maintain peace when the need arises.
According to him, the only means of changing any bad government is through the ballot box, calling on Nigerian youths to come out en-masse during any general election capable of producing good leadership.
“In the ongoing protests, we have heard of some people calling for the Nigerian military to take over the government in Nigeria. We in the PRP are against this call and believe strongly that the military should be restricted to their constitutional responsibility of protecting the territorial integrity of Nigeria and assisting the Nigeria Police Force to maintain peace when called to do so.
“The Nigerian electorate, we believe, should be allowed to change any bad government through the ballot box. The APC government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu can be changed through the ballot box, and we call on the Nigerian youth, who constitute 67% of registered voters of Nigeria, to massively come out in the next 2 years and 8 months to bring a new government that would have empathy for its citizens and bring good governance to the nation, and this is possible.”
