OpenAI, the dominant Artificial Intelligence (AI) start-up and the proprietor of ChatGPT, is now receiving over $1.5 billion in funding from Japan’s SoftBank. The AI company is allowing its employees to sell shares for this new tender offer.
As per the CNBC report, this deal will enable both present and past employees of OpenAI to sell their shares. It will run till December 24, 2024 which gives enough time for the company’s employees to choose if they want to engage in the deal or not.
This deal was led by SoftBank’s billionaire CEO Masayoshi Son who has been constantly exploring a bigger stake in this startup after providing $500 million funding in the last round.
OpenAI is currently the largest company in the AI domain with it having been funded by several investors including Microsoft which spurred over $13 billion. The company also closed a latest $6.6 billion funding round in October – led by Thrive Capital, NVIDIA, SoftBank and others.
