Malawi registered a 3-0 win against Burkina Faso in their final fixture of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier on Monday.
Goals from Gabadinho Mhango, Richard Mbulu, and Lloyd Aaron ensured the Flames carried the day at Bingu National Stadium.
Nigeria’s Super Eagles will face the Cheetahs of Benin Republic in a 2025 Africa Cup Nations, AFCON, qualifier on Thursday night at 8pm.
The match will be played at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium, Abidjan.
Nigeria head to the game after being awarded three points and three goals in a ruling on October 26 by CAF’s disciplinary committee for their abandoned game against Libya.
DAILY POST reports that the Nigerian men’s national team was detained at the Al-Abraq Airport for over 18 hours after they arrived for the second leg of the 2025 AFCON qualifier against the Mediterranean Knights.
Benin Republic, on their part, head to the game after losing 2-1 against Rwanda in their last game.
The last time Nigeria and Benin Republic met was in September at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo.
The Super Eagles won 3-0, thanks to Ademola Lookman’s brace and Victor Osimhen’s goal.
Super Eagles caretaker coach, Augustine Eguavoen has since unveiled his 23-man squad for the qualifying fixtures against Benin Republic on Thursday in Abidjan and Rwanda on Monday at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo.
Eguavoen included hot-inform striker, Victor Osimhen back to the squad.
DAILY POST reports that Osimhen returns to the team after missing out the last time due to injury.
The Super Eagles currently top the AFCON qualifier Group D with 10 points from four matches.
Eguavoen’s side are ahead of second position Benin Republic, who have 6 points from four matches also.
Behind Gernot Rohr’s side in third position is Rwanda, who have 5 points from the same number of matches.
Bottom of the group is Libya with just one point after four matches.
DAILY POST reports that Nigeria need just a point out of their last two matches against Benin Republic and Rwanda to book their place in next year’s AFCON tournament in Morocco.
The likes of Morocco, Algeria, Angola, DR Congo, Egypt, Senegal, Burkina Faso and Cameroon have all qualified for the AFCON 2025.
Speaking with DAILY POST about the upcoming AFCON qualifier between Nigeria and Benin Republic, Isa Saleh, co-founder of Borno Junior League, admitted that the encounter will be tough.
Saleh also expressed confidence that Eguavoen’s men will beat their neighbouring country and top Group D.
“To be frank with you the match is going to be tough….but I have no doubt we are going to win and top the group,” Saleh told DAILY POST.
“The reason I said that is because if you look at our current form and the way we played our last match, you can see the Eagles are hungry to play.”
When asked for his prediction, Saleh added, “Well, I’m not good at prediction but when it comes to Green boys I can say Super Eagles will win 3-1.”
Also, speaking with DAILY POST, former TTC Football Academy coach, Emmanuel Brown, expressed optimism that the Super Eagles will take all three points against Benin.
Brown, however, admitted that the Beninoise will enjoy more home support in Ivory Coast than Nigeria because it is a Francophone country.
“Well, one thing I know for sure is that the Super Eagles of Nigeria are the best team in Africa at the moment.
“It’s no longer news that the Super Eagles attackers are firing from all cylinders. The likes of Osimhen, Victor Boniface and Lookman, these guys are just too much for defenders.
“Week in and out they are just proving themselves,” Brown told DAILY POST.
“The Super Eagles have a formidable and a very reliable team in Africa now that any team that is playing against them should know that they are in for a very big task.
“So I’m very optimistic and confident that the Super Eagles will come out victorious against Benin. Forget the fact that Nigeria is playing the game in Ivory Coast.
“The Beninoise are good because they have a good coach, Rohr. Their defensive line is OK.
“What happened between Nigeria and Benin in that 2026 World Cup qualifier cannot repeat itself. At least you saw the difference when Eguavoen came.
“So it doesn’t matter whether the Super Eagles are playing in Côte d’Ivoire or Benin Republic. But one thing I know for sure is that the match is going to be a total victory for the Super Eagles.
“Because every player wants to prove himself now in the current Super Eagles squad.
“It’s a team that is loaded with talent and whether you like it or not any opportunity to any player now, then you just have to do your best.
“You saw what happened in the past, some key players had to lose their shirt before Eguavoen came back and started recalling them back.
“So I’m very optimistic that whether the match is played in Ivory Coast or not the Super Eagles will come out with three points.”
On his prediction, Brown added, “Well, we cannot shy away from the fact that the Super Eagles will be playing in a Francophone country and Benin too is also a Francophone country.
“So, whether we like it or not, they will enjoy home support more than Nigeria. But trust me it is not a big deal. I see Nigeria winning that match 2-1,” he stated.
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo recently reflected on his time in prison, recalling the crucial role his late wife, Stella, played in helping secure his release.
Obasanjo shared these memories at the inauguration of the 250-bed Stella Obasanjo Hospital in Benin, the capital of Edo State.
He was imprisoned during General Sani Abacha’s regime on accusations of involvement in a coup and was eventually released by AbdulSalam Abubakar’s administration following Abacha’s death, which later led to his presidency.
Stella Obasanjo, who was from Edo State, advocated for his release and subsequently became the First Lady before passing away during his second term.
Reflecting on her dedication, the 87-year-old praised Stella’s commitment, saying, “My late wife went everywhere to ensure that I came out of prison alive. She was in Vatican City, France and other parts of the world. I had it all coming out of prison.” He added, “No amount of honour would be too much for the role she played.”
Obasanjo expressed deep gratitude for the honour given to Stella through the hospital, noting, “I had a woman who made tremendous contributions to my achievements in public life.”
Obasanjo also acknowledged Governor Godwin Obaseki’s role in the hospital project, lauding him for “starting and finishing well” in office. He further reminisced about his past work with former Governor John Odigie Oyegun, whom he described as an exceptional permanent secretary.

Kenya’s U20 national football team, the Rising Stars, has secured a spot in the 2025 U20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after an emphatic 4-0 victory over Burundi in the semi-finals of the U20 AFCON CECAFA Qualifiers.
In a dominant display on Friday, October 18, 2024, the Rising Stars secured their place in the final and made history by qualifying for the U20 AFCON for the first time.
Despite Kenya’s control of the first half, neither side could find the breakthrough, and the teams went into halftime at 0-0. The second half, however, was a different story. Lawrence Okoth opened the scoring in the 52nd minute, setting the stage for an explosive performance by Kenya.

Dr. Agama who stated this in a Goodwill message delivered at the Central Securities Clearing System Cybersecurity conference with the theme: “Cybersecurity: Synergizing Artificial Intelligence, AI and Infrastructure” held in Abuja, said in today’s interconnected world, cybersecurity is no longer an isolated concern, it is foundational to the very fabric of our economic and social systems as many activities, both personal and organizational, are now conducted digitally more than ever before.
This shift, he said, has brought immense efficiencies but has also introduced a new set of risks – cyber risks – that stakeholders must not only recognize but also actively guard against.
According to him, “This became more apparent during the recent COVID-19 pandemic, which accelerated our reliance on technology, remote work, and digital platforms. The pandemic underscored the need to enhance cybersecurity measures to protect individuals, organizations, and sectors from threats lurking in cyberspace.
“At the SEC Nigeria, we understand the vital importance of cybersecurity, particularly in the financial sector. People’s hard-earned savings and investments depend on the integrity of our capital markets, which deserve robust strategies to mitigate cyber risks. Cyber-attacks targeting financial institutions are often aimed at gaining access to sensitive and confidential information, which can have systemic implications not just for a single institution but for the broader economy. Agama said AI has emerged as a powerful tool in the fight against cyber threats as AI-driven intelligence systems now offer the capability to monitor vast datasets in real-time, detect anomalies, and predict potential threats with remarkable speed and accuracy.
The SEC Boss said for Nigeria, where digitalisation is steadily advancing across sectors such as finance, healthcare, and telecommunications, AI holds the promise of not only improving efficiencies but also securing the digital economy adding that in the capital markets, AI-driven systems can enhance surveillance, detect fraud, and manage risk.
“At the SEC Nigeria, we are actively exploring ways to leverage AI technologies to safeguard investor interests and maintain market integrity.
“In addition to AI, automated response mechanisms can significantly reduce the time between the detection of a threat and the implementation of countermeasures. Automation in areas such as patch management, access control, and incident response is crucial to addressing the growing volume of threats that human teams alone cannot manage.

Popular Nigerian rapper and activist, Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, has confirmed that he had contact with controversial social media personality, Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky, in relation to legal issues Bobrisky faced earlier this year.
He also said that Bobrisky begged him for N3m to secure a VIP section at the Correctional Centre.
This clarification comes on Wednesday after Falana’s legal team, Falana & Falana Chambers, issued a letter to Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, demanding the retraction of defamatory statements made against Falz.
According to the letter, the controversial social media post suggested that Falz had conspired with Bobrisky to “pervert the course of justice” by assisting him financially to secure a favourable outcome for his legal troubles.
In the letter dated September 26, 2024, Falz’s lawyer, Taiwo E. Olawanle, outlined the sequence of events, explaining that while Bobrisky had indeed reached out to Falz for advice, Falz firmly rejected the notion of providing financial assistance, insisting that no payments were necessary.
The letter read, “Your publication of September 25, 2024, on your Instagram page captioned “In everything and everyone that is mentioned here, I will be disappointed if truly FALZ and his father are involved in this whole Bobrisky issue…” has been drawn to our notice wherein you made some defamatory statements against our client.
“To set the records straight, our client never at any point initiated a conversation with Mr Idris Okuneye. Our client has documentary evidence that Mr. Idris was in fact the one who initiated a call.
“Specifically, on the 4th of May 2024, Mr Idris Okuneye (AKA Bobrisky) contacted our client requesting a phone conversation with him. Our client gratuitously obliged, having knowledge of the Naira abuse charges leveled against him, and genuinely believing he might require legal advice.
“Mr Idris Okuneye (Aka Bobrisky) called shortly after but instead of soliciting legal advice, stated that he was in distress and needed financial assistance of about N3,000,000 (Three million Naira) which he claimed he needed to pay some officials to be permitted to stay in the VIP section of the Correctional Centre.”
The letter added, “Our client, in the same conversation, advised him that there was no need to pay the officials of the Correctional Centre any money. However, Mr Idris Okuneye (Aka Bobrisky) stated that his lawyers had messed up his case by asking him to plead guilty to the charges filed against him. Mr Idris Okuneye (Aka Bobrisky) insisted on his request for the money which our client continuously disapproved.
“Without contacting our client, you went ahead to publish a careless statement containing multiple allegations including an insinuation that our client is involved in a homosexual affair and intended to get a presidential pardon for Mr Idris Okuneye.”
Falana & Falana Chambers demanded an immediate retraction of the defamatory statements and a public apology to be issued across all platforms where the accusations were disseminated. The letter warned that failure to comply within 24 hours would result in legal action, including a claim for monetary damages for the harm caused to Falz’s reputation.
A viral video shared by VeryDarkMan revealed Bobrisky’s allegation that unnamed EFCC officers collected N15 million from him to drop money laundering charges.
Bobrisky has, however, denied the bribery allegations. The EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, also ordered an immediate investigation into the matter.
President Bola Tinubu on Saturday received with relief the news of the string of successful operations against security threats in the northwest by troops of the Nigerian military.
This came as troops of Operation Hadarin Daji, on Thursday, neutralised a wanted bandit leader, Halilu Sububu, who had been terrorising residents of Zamfara, Sokoto, and other parts of the Northwest.
The troops also neutralised another terrorist, Sani Burki, in a joint operation in Katsina, and busted a terrorist enclave in Kaduna, where 13 kidnapped students were freed.
“The success of the operations gives further assurance that our security operatives are up to the task of ensuring the peace and security of the nation,” the President said in a statement signed on Saturday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga.
The statement is titled, “President Tinubu Commends Military on Successful Operations in the North-West, Pledges Sustained Support.”
Onanuga noted that the successful operations followed the President’s directive to the service chiefs to relocate to the zone until normalcy returns.
Tinubu commended the military high command, the intelligence agencies, and the troops for “their valiant efforts, synergy, and dedication, which have resulted in the recent laudable outcomes.”
He also commended the entire security apparatus for improved security in the nation and encouraged them to sustain their efforts until immediate and latent threats are permanently removed. He reassured the security agencies of his continued support in achieving the priority objective of keeping the nation safe and secure.

One of the spokespersons for the Labour Party’s presidential campaign council in the 2023 election, Kenneth Okonkwo, has announced his departure from the party and severing political ties with party’s candidate, Peter Obi.
Okonkwo cited lack of confidence in the leadership of Peter Obi, the LP presidential candidate in 2023.
In a statement posted on his X handle on Saturday, Okonkwo expressed his disillusionment with Obi’s ability to build a party capable of winning elections. “Even if the people vote for him, he doesn’t have what it takes to secure the mandate,” Okonkwo stated.
Okonkwo, who left the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for LP in the lead-up to the 2023 presidential election, served as one of the spokespersons for the LP presidential campaign council.
However, he has recently been vocal in his criticism of the LP’s National Working Committee (NWC), led by Chairman Julius Abure.
In June 2024, Okonkwo described the LP as “a secret society led by a group of clowns,” and hinted at the possibility of leaving the party. His statement on Saturday confirmed this decision, citing recent events within the party as a catalyst for his departure.
Reflecting on his initial optimism following the 2023 elections, Okonkwo said many Nigerians, including himself, had “high hopes” for Obi. “He just needed to give the right directives and everyone would fall in line. I received my first shock when he publicly declared that he didn’t promise Nigerians to build a strong Labour Party, but to solve Nigeria’s problems,” Okonkwo remarked.
Okonkwo criticized Obi for not taking decisive action to address the party’s issues, including the failure to organise an all-inclusive convention and the lack of dissociation from the expired NWC’s “shenanigans and criminal activities.”
He highlighted the confusion among LP members due to the perceived lack of leadership from Obi.
“Every member of the Labour Party is confused today as to the future of the Labour Party because of lack of leadership from PO over the party,” he said. “I cannot continue to speak on behalf of a leader that I do not know his stand on issues of great importance.”
Okonkwo also accused Obi of not supporting the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in its efforts to combat those attempting to hijack the party. “An ordinary statement from the LP presidential candidate would have resolved the issues,” he added.
In his concluding remarks, Okonkwo stated, “I no longer have the confidence that PO has what it takes to build a party that can win against these ‘kakistocrats’ and kleptocrats. Above all, he has proved that even if the people vote for him, he doesn’t have what it takes to secure the mandate.”
Okonkwo emphasised that his decision was not driven by any desire to rejoin APC or PDP, but rather by a commitment to continue his political journey towards a better Nigeria without Peter Obi.
Ahead of the 2025 Anambra governorship election, the All Progressives Congress (APC) says it has concluded plans to take over the state.
Anambra APC chairman, Basil Ejidike disclosed this on Wednesday in Abuja at the inauguration of Anambra consultative council.
He stated: “Actualising this mission of the party is majorly dependent on this Consultative Council. The party, with the inauguration holding today, has entrusted the role of driving this ambition on you.
“Looking at the composition, and membership of this Council, the party is convinced that the mission of securing the seat of government in Agu Awka, come 2025, for the APC is already a concluded issue, and a done deal. Please, do not betray this confidence reposed in you by the party.

Earlier, the National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, said the party cannot continue to allow Anambra State to remain on the sidelines of Nigerian politics.
He said he believed that the meeting was part of the strategy by the Anambra State APC to re-organise and unite party members in preparation for the forthcoming 2025 governorship election.
He stated: “I assure you of the national headquarters’ support towards the party in Anambra in the 2025 gubernatorial election.
“That election is crucial to the party and the government at the center because Anambra deserves to be at the mainstream of Nigeria’s politics.
“We cannot continue to allow Anambra to remain on the sidelines of Nigerian politics, hence the need for all to work in unison for the actualization of this mission.”
