Senate Minority Leader Abba Moro has condemned the closure of Joy FM, Otukpo, by the Benue State government.
He described the action taken by the government as an assault on press freedom.
This was contained in a statement on Friday by his Media Aide, Mr. John Eche’Ofun.
“Moro condemns the commando-style invasion and sealing off of Joy FM, Otukpo, by officials of Benue State Internal Revenue Service, BIRS.
“Senator Moro describes the forceful closure of the station as an attempt to gag the press, an action he says is unacceptable in the 21st century.
“The senator insists that media houses must be given the freedom to operate as long as they operate within the ambit of the law.
“He identifies with management and staff of the radio station at this trying period and hopes the station will be unsealed without delays for them to continue to carry out their job of information dissemination.”
DAILY POST recalls that the Benue State Government on Thursday sealed off the radio station belonging to the former President of the Senate, David Mark.
