The Ogun State Police Command has detained two suspected Aiye Confraternity members, known as Adisa Abiodun and Rasheed Makinde, who allegedly participated in the robbery attack on the Hommies Hotel in the Ijoko community of the Ado-Odo-Ota Local Government Area of the state.

PUNCH Metro gathered that the suspects were nabbed by police officers on Tuesday in the Ntabo community of Ijoko, following tips from residents of the area.

Our correspondent learnt that the suspects had previously participated in raping a 25-year-old female staffer (name withheld), who worked at the lounge and bar during the attack on the hotel.

It was also learnt from a police operative involved in the arrest, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to speak for the command, that the suspects had been a thorn in the flesh of the residents, wreaking terror and mayhem on the community.

It was gathered that while the suspects were unleashing another round of chaos on the community, some residents alerted the police in the Sango-Ota Division, who promptly stormed the scene.

Upon sighting the approaching police operatives, PUNCH Metro learnt that the suspected cult members allegedly fled, prompting the police to give chase.

“There were about 30 of them. They were suspected to have been terrorising the community for a long time. They are members of the Aiye Confraternity,” the cop said.

Confirming the arrest to our correspondent on Thursday, the command spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, stated that the two suspected cultists had confessed to the crime.

“Upon interrogation, they confessed to being members of a gang of robbers and cultists that attacked the hotel and raped a female staff member. The victims of their atrocities are currently being located to aid in the investigation,” Odutola disclosed.

She further disclosed to our correspondent that two additional members of the same confraternity were apprehended on Monday in the Ode Remo area of Ogun State.

Our correspondent learnt that the suspects, including Waziri Rasheed and Sadiq Adamu, were graduating students of Gateway Polytechnic Sapaade.

PUNCH Metro further learnt that the rampaging suspected cultists, mostly members of the polytechnic and armed with sticks and bottles, were allegedly causing havoc on the Old Ogere Road in the community before being overpowered by police operatives.

Odutola said, “Two of the suspects were arrested. We recovered one locally fabricated Makarov pistol and an unregistered Lexus Toyota Jeep. We discovered their student identification cards inside a bag that we recovered from them, bearing the names of the suspects.

“Efforts have been put in place to arrest the fleeing members of the gang who escaped through the nearby bush.”
