The Belgian Football Federation (RBFA) is actively seeking a new head coach ahead of the Nations League in March, with its focus narrowing to two prominent French candidates: Thierry Henry and Rudi Garcia.
Domenico Tedesco, who has been at the helm since February 2023, is expected to leave his post following a disappointing tenure marked by Belgium’s early elimination from Euro 2024 and tensions with key players like Romelu Lukaku and Thibaut Courtois, the latter having stepped away from the team under his leadership.
Thierry Henry, familiar with the Belgian setup from his time as Roberto Martinez’s assistant, has re-emerged as a contender. His tenure from 2016 to 2018 and again from 2021 to 2022 was well-received by players, though his commitments and high-profile obligations complicate matters. However, Henry has publicly denied having any contact with the RBFA.
Meanwhile, Rudi Garcia, celebrated in Belgium for his historic Ligue 1 and Coupe de France double with Lille in 2011, is viewed as the frontrunner. Garcia, currently without a club since leaving Napoli in late 2023, has the support of Vincent Mannaert, the new sports director of the federation. The RBFA aims to finalize its choice by late January or early February.
