Not to sound like a broken record, but the 2025 Grammys nominations are finally here.
It’s true! The Recording Academy announced the nominees for the 67th annual award show on Nov. 8—with a little help from some famous friends. Kylie Minogue, Victoria Monét, Ben Platt, Brandy Clark, Kirk Franklin, Jim Gaffigan and Green Day‘s Billie Joe Armstrong were among the stars to helped reveal which musicians are in the running for a trophy.
Among the top contenders are Beyoncé, with 11 nods, as well as Charli xcx, Billie Eilish, Kendrick Lamar and Post Malone with seven each. Following closely behind with six nominations are Sabrina Carpenter, Chappell Roan and Taylor Swift.
Needless to say, the recognition was music to nominees’ ears. Miley Cyrus, for instance, celebrated Queen Bey’s nods for Cowboy Carter, including their joint nomination in the Best Country Duo/Group Performance category for the single “II Most Wanted.”
“Shotgun Riders Forever!” Miley wrote on her Instagram Stories. “Congratulations on all of your deserved nominations!”
Similarly, Cardi B was thrilled “Enough (Miami)” is up for Best Rap Performance.
“Ahhhh so grateful..” she wrote in her own post, “and the fact that this song is my light work. Whew!!! This album honey…anyways thank you guys. Enjoy your day!!”
National Grid now collapses every ‘eke market’ day – Nigerians react to nationwide blackout
Reactions have continued to trail the nationwide blackout following another collapse of the national grid.
DAILY POST reports that since January 2024 till date, the grid has collapsed 12 times.
Nigerians were on Thursday, November 7 denied electricity again following another collapse of the national power grid after the November 5th total blackout.
The latest developments have sparked reactions from Nigerians on the internet, with some calling for the removal of the power minister over incompetence.
Some others have alleged that the generator importation cabal could be behind the collapse while others say the constant shut down of power across the country could be deliberate.
@Esteembehemoth on X, lamented the constant collapse of the grid, saying; “Every Eke market day. Sigh.”
@MrLekan213; “I talk ham say na SS be this national grid.”
@healthprefectt; “At this point, one would think you guys are doing this thing internationally.”
@carsblogerrrr; “Enough is enough! The National Grid has failed us again. How are we supposed to live, work, or even survive when we can’t depend on basic electricity? This isn’t just an inconvenience; it’s a crisis. We demand immediate action and solutions from our leaders! Sack the Minister of power, this shows he can’t do his job!”
@Oluwatoyinzoe; “Generator importers and oil cabals at work, how will they make money if the power supply is constant? The Minister of power is only cooking stories by saying the facilities are poor, it is definitely not that the facilities are poor, I strongly believe the boys sponsored by generator importers and oil cabals are the ones destroying sections of the national grid and the most shocking thing is those boys may be among those working to secure the national grid. The government need to go hard after them if they want to solve this problem once and for all.”
@ucnwali; “If only our National Grid was as strong as our National Greed.”
@meetdammy_; “National grid don dey fall pass dollar these days.”
@victor_oyibes; “The person in charge of this grid must be a 2minutes man.”

“I have personally met President Trump as a young man, so I know that his robust leadership will result in a better future for all of us,” Marcos concluded. “Congratulations, President Trump!”
The Philippines is one of the U.S.’ allies in the Indo-Pacific region, helping counter China’s growing influence there. While some have warned that a Trump presidency would mean a more insular foreign policy, experts previously told TIME that countering China remains a bipartisan consensus and likely won’t be affected by Trump coming back into power.

U.K.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer took to X to congratulate Trump, saying he looks forward to working with him in the years ahead. “As the closest of allies, we stand shoulder to shoulder in defence of our shared values of freedom, democracy and enterprise,” he said in his statement.
But Starmer’s relationship with Trump will likely be off to a shaky start. The Trump campaign accused his Labour Government of “blatant foreign interference” after volunteers with the center-left party traveled to the U.S. to help campaign for Vice President Kamala Harris. Meanwhile, the Labour Government’s foreign secretary, David Lammy, in a 2018 article for TIME, described Trump as “a woman-hating, neo-Nazi-sympathizing sociopath.” Lammy has since congratulated Trump, posting on X: “The UK has no greater friend than the US, with the special relationship being cherished on both sides of the Atlantic for more than 80 years. We look forward to working with you and @JDVance in the years ahead.”
Ukraine
President Volodmyr Zelensky posted on X: “Congratulations to @realDonaldTrump on his impressive election victory!
“I recall our great meeting with President Trump back in September, when we discussed in detail the Ukraine-U.S. strategic partnership, the Victory Plan, and ways to put an end to Russian aggression against Ukraine.
“I appreciate President Trump’s commitment to the “peace through strength” approach in global affairs. This is exactly the principle that can practically bring just peace in Ukraine closer. I am hopeful that we will put it into action together.
“We look forward to an era of a strong United States of America under President Trump’s decisive leadership. We rely on continued strong bipartisan support for Ukraine in the United States.
“We are interested in developing mutually beneficial political and economic cooperation that will benefit both of our nations. Ukraine, as one of Europe’s strongest military powers, is committed to ensuring long-term peace and security in Europe and the Transatlantic community with the support of our allies.
“I am looking forward to personally congratulating President Trump and discussing ways to strengthen Ukraine’s strategic partnership with the United States.”
Trump has shown little interest in supporting Ukraine in its war against Russia’s invasion, even blaming Zelensky for having “let that war start.”
European Commission
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen posted on X: “I warmly congratulate Donald J. Trump. The EU and the US are more than just allies. We are bound by a true partnership between our people, uniting 800 million citizens. So let’s work together on a strong transatlantic agenda that keeps delivering for them.”
North Atlantic Treaty Organization
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte also congratulated Trump on his election. “His leadership will again be key to keeping our Alliance strong. I look forward to working with him again to advance peace through strength through #NATO,” he posted on X.
Trump’s commitment to the military alliance is dubious.
Super Eagles players are beginning to react to the decision of the Confederation of African Football, CAF, to punish Libya for the botched 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
CAF’s Disciplinary Board on Saturday awarded three points and three goals to Nigeria.
The Match Day 4 fixturewhich was scheduled to played in Benina on October 15, was called off after the Nigerian delegation saw their flight diverted.
They were then held hostage in an abandoned airport for at least 17 hours.
The Libya Football Federation, LFF, have also been ordered to pay a fine of $50,000, with payment due within 60 days of notification of the decision.
In reaction to the news in a post via his verified X.com, William Troost-Ekong wrote, “JUSTICE: CAF awards three points and three goals to Nigeria. Libya fined $50,000.
“The plane was diverted 300km from the scheduled airport, even when the pilot told them he was low on fuel.
“One step closer to our target AFCON 2025.”
In his own post, goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali quote-tweeted CAF’s announcement and asked: “$50k for eba?”
Plumbing, hairstyling, others’ inclusion in Nigeria’s curriculum, long overdue, Nigerians react
Nigerians have expressed that the Federal Government’s plan to include vocational skills such as plumbing and hairstyling into the country’s educational curriculum is long overdue.
Many believe these skills should have been integrated years ago to better prepare students for the workforce.
This reaction follows the Federal Government’s introduction of 15 new vocational trades into the Basic Education curriculum, a move aimed at enhancing the employability of graduates from primary and junior secondary schools.
The Minister of Education, Professor Tahir Mamman, announced the initiative during a stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja on Monday, stating that the new curriculum would be implemented starting January 2025.
On social media, Nigerians have voiced both their approval and frustration, urging the government to act quickly on the implementation of the skills in Nigeria’s curriculum.
While they commend the development, many feel it has come much later than it should have.
Reacting on Facebook, a user @ Ken Cross Omafuru wrote, This programme is long overdue and if the FG is coming up with this idea, is going to be a fantastic idea, because with this program in our secondary and tertiary institution Nigeria youths can create jobs for themselves and thus contribute to the growth and development of our country. Idea rule the world.”
Another user, Uduebho Osegiegbefumhen Cyril, added, “It’s a welcome development, but it’s long overdue.”
Another Facebook user, @Julius Adeyeni Adefioye shared, “I totally support it for all basic 7-9 and senior classes in Nigeria. This is what has been waiting for in Nigeria’s educational system for a long time.”
@Adeniyi Adewumi opined, “I wholeheartedly support this idea. It will help build up the skills of the students and will in a long run help in reducing rates of unemployment in the country.”
“It’s a good idea. The Nigerian school curriculum should be redesigned to accommodate more practical learning, it helps a lot. I remembered that in our primary school days, we were doing “HANDWORK” where we used our hands to create things. Many of us still live with those skills till today”, @Oghenero S Ikutegbe wrote.
South Africa’s Udeme Okon won gold in the 400m final at the 2024 World Athletics U20 Championships in Lima, Peru, with a remarkable comeback, clocking in at 45.69 seconds.
The victory, shared on social media, highlighted Okon’s dual ties to Nigeria and South Africa, sparking reactions from both nations.
While the recent controversy involving Miss Chidinma Adetshina underscored tensions between the two countries, Okon’s achievement seems to have been celebrated across borders
PUNCH Online reports that the 2024 World Athletics U20 Championships, also known colloquially by its former official title, the World Junior Championships, is an international athletics competition for athletes qualifying as juniors.
The event is ongoing in Lima, Peru, from August 27 to 31, 2024.
Okon’s profile on his Instagram page, #udeme_sprints, shows both the Nigerian and South African flags, signifying his ties to both nations, PUNCH Online also reports.
World Athletics in early Friday video posts on X revealed this.
It read, “WHAT. A. COMEBACK. ‘s Udeme Okon wins the 400m final in great style with 45.69.
“It’s Okon’s moment Udeme Okon claims the 400m gold with an incredible comeback in the home straight 45.69 ”
Meanwhile, several reactions followed the post from South Africans and Nigerians alike.
Nigerians-South Africans tension
Recall the recent controversy surrounding Miss Chidinma Adetshina, a South African-born model of Nigerian and Mozambican descent, which sparked significant debate and tension between South Africans and Nigerians.
Adetshina’s eligibility to compete in the Miss South Africa pageant was questioned after revelations about her dual citizenship. Critics argued that her participation undermines the opportunities for South African-born candidates, fueling xenophobic sentiments.
As the scrutiny over her citizenship and background intensified, Adetshina withdrew from the Miss South Africa competition, citing concerns for her safety.
Following her withdrawal, she was invited to compete in the Miss Universe Nigeria pageant, which has further complicated the situation given the uncertainty around her Nigerian citizenship status.
However, it seems reactions from the South Africans do not have an issue with Okon and his gold medal.
X users react
An X user, Tebogo Koma with the handle #TheGeopol said, “That name doesn’t sound South African “Udeme Okon”, but if he’s legal, then we fully support him.”

Reactions have trailed the release of controversial cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, known as Bobrisky, from the Kirikiri Correctional Centre in Lagos State.
The social media celebrity was released on Monday morning after serving six months imprisonment.
In a video sighted by our correspondent on X, Bobrisky was seen greeting his fans, who came to give him a welcoming reception.
PUNCH Online reported in April that Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Federal High Court in Lagos jailed Bobrisky for Naira abuse.
Justice Awogboro, who sentenced the cross-dresser without an option of a fine, said his sentence would serve as a lesson for others abusing the Naira.
Following the development, some netizens took to X.com to express their reactions to the crossdresser’s release from the correctional centre.
On X, a user, @toolzmoney, wrote, “Bobrisky after finally regaining his freedom. Una sure say this guy go prison??”
One tweep, OSG, posting as @OloriSupergal, wrote, “Bobrisky aka Mummy of Laygurrrrrrsssss is back!!!!”
One X.com user, Bàádì of Agègè, posting as @iamaleshinloye1, wrote, “Congratulations to all Nigerians.”
An X user, Peace Ighodaro, posting as @peace_igho, wrote, “See as Bobrisky dey glow. Abi make I go prison??”
Another tweep, Ehime, with the username @ehime24, wrote, “Deep in our hearts, we all know Bobrisky did not go to prison……Omo get money OOO, make prison no be like a vacation.”
One X.com user, Chioma Agwuegbo, posting as @ChiomaChuka, wrote, “A reminder that Bobrisky’s incarceration was unjust, heavy-handed, and can be described as targeted. There are several videos of politicians, their families, & politically exposed persons spraying naira; NONE of them have been arrested or jailed. A bad thing is a bad thing.”
An X user, Motara Lawrence, posting as @_theladymo wrote, “Bobrisky looks really fresh out of prison, be like say all of us go enter prison o.”
Speaking with journalists shortly after his release, Bobrisky has advised Nigerians to obey the laws of the country and respect the Naira.
The crossdresser warned Nigerians against abusing the Naira in order not to end up in prison, adding that the country’s currency should be respected at all times.
He said, “You have to follow the rules and abide by the laws. Don’t spray money, or you will become a landlord in Kirikiri.
“It is not just about killing or any criminal activity that can bring you to prison. Something light as spaying of naira can take you there.”
Bobrisky added, “I’m only focusing on my good energy right now on people who were there for me, like my friends. You see, any other person, I’m not interested. So, I don’t want to talk about them. I’m really grateful to my friends and loved ones.”
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has paid tribute to President Joe Biden on Sunday, saying he had made “democracy stronger” following the United States leader’s decision to drop out from the White House race.
LEADERSHIP recalls that the President Biden announced his withdrawal from the 2024 race for another tenure as president on Sunday amid concerns over his age and health conditions.
Tusk, who served as the European Council’s president from 2014 to 2019, said in March that it was important to “nurture transatlantic relations, regardless of who the US president is”.
“You’ve taken many difficult decisions, thanks to which Poland, America, and the world are safer, and democracy stronger,” Tusk wrote on X.
“I know you were driven by the same motivations when announcing your final decision. Probably the most difficult one in your life,” he added.
Israeli President Isaac Herzog also thanked Biden for his decades of supporting “the Israeli people” after the US leader’s move.
“I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to @POTUS Joe Biden for his friendship and steadfast support for the Israeli people over his decades-long career,” Herzog, whose role is largely ceremonial, wrote on social media.
Germany’s Scholz added that Biden’s decision deserves ‘respect’

“My friend @POTUS Joe Biden has achieved a lot: for his country, for Europe, for the world,” Scholz wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “His decision not to run again deserves respect.”
Similarly, newly elected UK Prime Minister, Keir Starmer said he respected the US President’s decision to withdraw from the race for the White House, paying tribute to a “remarkable career”.

“I know that, as he has done throughout his remarkable career, he will have made his decision based on what he believes is best for the American people,” he added.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also thanked Biden for his years of service.
“I’ve known President Biden for years,” he wrote on X.
