Joshua Zirkzee is reportedly pushing for a move away from Manchester United in the upcoming January transfer window.
The Dutch striker, who joined United last summer, is said to be dissatisfied with his current situation at Old Trafford.
Italian giants Juventus have emerged as strong contenders for Zirkzee’s signature.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the 22-year-old is keen on the move, with an initial loan deal being a preferred option for both the player and the Turin-based club.
However, Manchester United have yet to approve the potential transfer.
Zirkzee, known for his technical ability, has struggled for consistent game time at Old Trafford due to poor form.
This lack of opportunities has fueled speculation about his desire to leave in search of regular minutes.
Juventus, who are looking to bolster their attacking options, see Zirkzee as a valuable addition to their squad.
The Serie A club has a history of reviving players’ careers, and a move could benefit both parties if Manchester United agrees to the terms.
Primary School Teachers in Delta State have called on the Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori to stop what they described as obnoxious policies and oppressive methods of extortion from teachers by the executives of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT, Delta State wing.
They raised an alarm over what they described as an oppressive imposition and illegal deduction of N5,000 each from their salaries for the production of an identity card.
The teachers in their numbers, accused the executives of the state NUT of ill-treatment, contrary to the treatment of their counterparts in the secondary school.
In a circular letter to school heads which reads: “l am directed to refer to the above subject and to notify you of the request letter dated 26th September 2024, with reference number NUT/DSW/ 004/Vol. 7/88, from the Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT, Delta State Wing, which issued a directive to carry out the production of identity cards, and interestsID to all staff of the Local Education Authority.
In another circular dated October 16, 2024, a letter was addressed to the Chairmen of local governments, HPM and TLG’s with the title; ”Production of Identity Cards For Primary School Teaching And Non-Teaching Staff of Local Government Education Authority“
The circular signed by Dan Basime, State Secretary, NUT Delta State Wing, dated September 26, 2024, and addressed to the Ministry of Local Government Service Commission with the title, “Production of Identity Card For Primary School Teachers” reads; “I am directed by the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, Delta State Wing, to officially inform you to commence production of identity card (ID), for Primary School Teachers as well as the staff of the Local Government Education Authority as discussed.
“I am to also add that the cost of producing the ID be deducted twice from their salaries at source”.
“Furthermore I wish to convey to the Local Government Service Commissions approval to kick-start a two-phase installment deduction of the sum of #5,000 from their salaries at source.
“Phase one, a sum of N2,500 would be deducted in October 2024, why the phase two deduction should be made in November 2024 respectively for the deduction.
However, the teachers said, it is unfair for the Executives of the Union to deduct N5,000 from each teacher in Delta state for an Identity card at this moment when the economy is biting hard.
“What is the cost of producing Identity Cards especially when you are mass producing and why are they always tampering with the primary school teacher’s salaries at will?
“Why were they elected to oversee the activities of the teachers? Why are primary school teachers always their targets in all their policies? Were they elected to extort and punish us or to work for our interest?
They also lamented the deliberate delay of the promised arrears to be paid to them by the state government, saying the delay is a result of an alleged manipulation of how their monies can be deducted for frivolous purposes.
“Our Secondary school counterparts have been paid and they were paid completely, why is ours different, the visibly sad and angered teachers queried.

Just two weeks to the main elections on September 21, the Imo State All Progressives Congress, APC, is under tension as candidates and other members of the party are eagerly awaiting for the release of results of the party primary elections which was conducted on September 3 at various LGAs and wards in the state.
The tension became more worrisome as results allegedly said to have emanated from the just concluded exercise flooded various media platforms with lists of certain names as the winners of the primary exercise.
Though , the ztate leadership of the party has earlier warned aspirants and other party faithful to disregard the list and wait for official release of the results which it said would be announced by the party.
DAILY POST learnt that despite the assurance given by the party leadership, many aspirants seemed to be uncomfortable with the delay of the results of an election which they complained was conducted five days ago.
A chairmanship aspirant from one of the LGAs who doesn’t want his name to be mentioned for political reasons said that he is not happy with the way the party leadership is handling the matter.
He pointed out that while they are still awaiting for the official release of the results, some of the aspirants have started jubilation based on the results flying around social media.
Speaking also, Hyginus Onumajuru, a card-carrying member of the party, said that there is the possibility of believing in the lists flying in social media, hinting that there is no reason the party leadership will give that will be acceptable for an exercise conducted almost a week ago and the results are yet to be released.
Onumajuru further hinted that for the results not to be released after five days of waiting is a clear signal that the state party leadership may not be in charge of the exercise.
“This could be a clear indication that the party leadership is not in control of the primaries, if not so what could have been the cause of the delay in releasing the results. It has already created panic among aspirants who are eagerly waiting for the official announcement and seeing some lists flying around messed up the whole thing. Debunking the story is not enough let us have the real results,” he said.
He further said that it is unjust the way the party leadership is treating people who have already spent huge sums of money and time purchasing forms and touring villages meeting with their people for the sole purpose of securing political positions under its platform.
In a similar vein, one of the local tabloids in the state in its banner headline revealed that lists of candidates for the September 21 exercise are already before ISIEC.
A list from one of the social media platforms revealed that 12 names from Ohaji/Egbema LGA have already emerged as the party’s candidates for councillor positions ahead of the polls.
Another list also purportedly revealed that over 22 names of the current sole administrators were allegedly seen in the lists. Some aspirants have already started receiving congratulatory messages from their well wishers and supporters basically from the lists flying around.
At of the time of filing this report the leadership of the party, apart from the earlier statement issued some days ago by one Julian Chijioke, media aid to the State party Chairman, Macdonald Ebere, the party is yet to make any other official announcement on the current development.
The election is barely two weeks from now with no record of any serious political activity from the various political parties regarding that as the people of the State await the September 21 exercise.
The Benue State chapter of All Progressives Congress (APC) has commended its leaders and members for their peaceful conduct during the primary election processes.
The party praised the aspirants, in particular, for their exemplary behaviour during the screening exercise from September 1, 2024, to September 2, 2024.
This was stated in a Thursday statement by Caretaker Organizing Secretary/Spokesperson, Mr. James Ornguga.
He noted that the APC is pleased that no violence was reported during the process as those who had concerns with the screening exercise have approached the Barrister Moses Atagher-led Screening Appeal Committee.
Ornguga said the committee has addressed all cases, allowing for the immediate commencement of the primary election on Wednesday, to be completed on Thursday.
He added that the Primary Election Appeal Committee would begin its sitting on Thursday to handle all petitions arising from the conduct of the primary elections.
“The party seeks further cooperation and understanding from its members to achieve the overall success of the electoral process,” he added.
The Imo State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Macdonald Ebere has told aspirants and other party faithful to disregard the rumour going round that the leadership of the party has officially released results of the local government primary election across the 305 wards and the 27 LGAs.
Speaking with journalists on the outcome of the exercise, the chairman, however, said the process was free, fair, and peaceful.
“As I’m talking to you, we are just coming in. We are waiting for the results. The results are trickling in one after the other.
“Everything has been smooth and we are happy except that we are tired, but we’ll continue to be there till the end of the exercise,” he said.
Ebere noted that the presence of security forces and electoral officials across the 305 wards and 27 local governments where voting took place gave credence to the exercise.
He said that the party’s National Vice-Chairman, Southeast zone, Ijeomah Arodiogbu, also observed the process.
Confirming the exercise, a commissioner with the Imo State Independent Electoral Commission, ISIEC, Charles Ohiri said that the process of the elections was conducted in a peaceful atmosphere.
“It was a free and fair election. We have been so busy since morning and afternoon monitoring the election.
“All the information we got is that everything was going fine and everything went on fine,” he said.
According to report though the outcome of the exercise is yet to be announced, there are pockets of congratulations on social media to some aspirants that participated in the exercise.
The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Osun State has enjoined members to be peaceful and set the right standards.
The call was made by the Osun PDP chairman, Sunday Bisi in a personally signed statement obtained by DAILY POST on Friday.
The call follows the readiness of the state PDP to conduct a primary election for candidates vying for elective councillor positions at the local government level on Saturday, August 17, 2024.
The primary election will be held across the 332 wards across the state.
Also, the chairmanship primary election of the party will be held on Monday, August 19, 2024, in all the 30 local government headquarters in the state.
According to report the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission, OSSIEC, has set Saturday, February 22, 2025, for local government elections in the state.
The primary is being held to determine chairmanship and councilorship candidates in the constitutionally recognised 30 local government council areas across the state.
Bisi, who urged aspirants and their supporters to cooperate with the electoral officers and the security operatives who are scheduled to oversee the primaries, warned that the State Working Committee of the party will not treat any act of violence during or after the exercise with kid gloves.
The statement reads, “I urge supporters of all prospective candidates of our party to avail themselves with the dictates of the law and guidelines of our party in their conduct in the primaries tomorrow and Monday. There is no room for violence of any form in a family like that of the PDP and especially a constitutional exercise of this nature.
“The leadership of the party has put necessary measures in place to ensure a smooth exercise tomorrow, in line with the directive of our leader, His Excellency, Asiwaju Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke at the last stakeholders meeting.
“We are confident that this exercise will produce the best candidates and ensure victory for our great party in the coming local government election in the state.
“As a disciplined party operating on the threshold of the rule of law, aspirants found wanting in the guidelines of the party, electoral act and the constitution of the country in conducting party primaries, especially on issues bordering on improper conduct, such aspirants stand disqualified by the law, without whose ox is gored,” the statement concluded.
In preparation for the local government elections, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially announced August 22, 2024, as the date for the party primary elections in Imo State.
The announcement was made by its State Chairman, MacDonald Ebere, on behalf of the State Executive Committee.
He maintained that the party was well prepared to conduct free and fair exercise, advising the aspirants to maintain decorum during and after the exercise.
According to the party, those that will participate in the exercise will be the party executive members as automatic delegates.
Following the development, there is growing demand among the majority of the party faithfuls at the Local Government and Ward levels that all card-carrying members be allowed to participate in the exercise.
They argued that such inclusiveness would ensure equity, fairness, and justice during the primaries.
In a similar vein, the State Organizing Secretary of the party, Ikechukwu Sunday Umeh has urged all contestants to go to their various councils and talk to their people, maintaining that the exercise will be done in a way that will be acceptable by all.
He further said that the party has a way of compensating those that did not make it to the main elections, pointing out that what is more important is for the party to have a successful outing during the main elections.
The Osun State chapter of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, has unveiled the dates for primary election in preparation for the local government election in the state.
The party also announced its readiness to accommodate aspiring youths.
In a statement issued by its chairman and acting secretary, Dr. Tosin Odeyemi and Ayegbaju Celestina, respectively, in Osogbo on Thursday, the party noted that various challenges facing Nigeria’s economy now required fresh blood to tackle them.
The political party also revealed that youthful knowledge needed to be encouraged immediately, as there can be no positive effect if things are done with the same approach by the same set of individuals.
The party said: “Now that Osun State Independent Electoral Commission, OSSIEC, has directed political parties that are interested in participating in the forthcoming council polls to hold their primaries between July 22nd, 2024 and August 23rd, 2024, our party has resolved to field capable candidates in all local governments across the state.
“We have written to inform OSSIEC that our party’s primary for nominations of chairmanship and councillorship candidates will hold between August 22nd and 23rd, 2024.
“Knowing fully well that the destiny of our people at the grassroots depends on the kind of leadership they have at the council level, we want to make a change.
“We believe that when youths are given ample opportunity to serve their people, things will work out smoothly as expected and there will be unprecedented development. They will have enough strength to paddle the affairs of the local governments, which will in turn make life better for the masses.
“NNPP, as a party, believes in the ability of our youths to lead, hence, the need to compel sincere youths who are interested in leading their local governments to join our party so as to participate in the party primary.
“We believe that OSSIEC will conduct a free, fair and credible election to change people’s initial wrong perception of the commission.
“Osun NNPP will surely shock the ruling party as we have mobilised our members, both old and new, towards winning in the February 22, 2025, local government election.”
According to report OSSIEC chairman, Hashim Abioye, recently announced that the local government election in the state is slated for February 22, 2025.
Abioye also revealed that the commission planned to recruit electoral officers and assistant electoral officers in preparation for the poll.
Recently, the chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Dr Musa Adamu Aliyu, raised the alarm over the spate of sexual harassment in Nigeria’s primary and secondary schools.
This is a confirmation of an earlier report by the anti-graft agency that between 2012 and 2022, there were 17 cases of sexual harassment in secondary schools. The report also claimed that paedophilia is becoming pervasive in the society.
In a survey conducted in 2018 by the World Bank, 70 per cent of graduates from Nigerian tertiary institutions are said to have been sexually abused, with the main culprits being lecturers. In August 2023, a lecturer at the University of Calabar (UNICAL), Dr Cyril Ndifon, was suspended by the institution following a protest by his students, alleging that he had subjected them to various forms of sexual harassment. He had been suspended for similar reasons in 2015 after a final-year student accused him of raping her in his office. Ndifon is currently on trial before a Federal High Court in Abuja.
On July 7, 2020, the upper chamber of the National Assembly, the Senate, passed the Anti-Sexual Harassment Bill into law. It was eventually passed by the House of Representatives in 2022. By 2023, both chambers of the National Assembly jointly passed the bill. The law seeks to promote and protect girls against sexual harassment in tertiary institutions.
Unfortunately, despite efforts by the Nigerian government to tackle this menace through implementing various policies and legislations, the unwholesome act persists. Sexual harassment, hitherto known to be more prevalent in higher institutions of learning, has now become a nagging issue in primary and secondary schools. Sadly, the girls find themselves at the mercy of both the teachers and their fellow pupils.
A United States of America’s findings in 2021 revealed a disturbing trend of sexual harassment across secondary schools in Nigeria. The report called for urgent measures to address the menace before it gets out of control.
Indecent dressing among female students has been blamed as a major factor driving sexual harassment in tertiary institutions. Sex for grade is another factor in tertiary institutions where male lecturers take undue advantage of their female students.
In the opinion of this newspaper, sexual harassment will continue to be a problem in Nigerian schools if the mode of dressing of girls is given as an excuse for the illicit act. Blaming the victim will cause the perpetrators to evade justice. What can we say about primary and secondary school children fully clad in their school uniforms? Do they also dress provocatively?
The culture of letting offenders go scot-free without stiff penalty or punishment has continued to embolden perpetrators of this unacceptable act against the female gender.
We recall that the federal government, in 2019, launched its first National Sex Offender Register to name and shame perpetrators of this unwholesome act across the country. One state that has been in the forefront of naming and shaming sexual offenders is Lagos.
Only 10 out of 36 states, including the FCT, have adopted the law, while the remaining states are still struggling to implement it. The states are Lagos, Ekiti, Akwa Ibom, Ogun, Edo, Kaduna, Abia, Adamawa, Bauchi, Bayelsa. Only four states—Lagos, Ekiti, Akwa-Ibom, and Edo—have so far published full details of the offenders. Sadly, these registers are not updated regularly, thereby defeating the aim for which it was implemented in the first place.
The lack of stringent laws to prosecute offenders is apparently the reason why perpetrators of this evil act have taken it a notch higher by sexually harassing innocent primary and secondary school students. In 2021 and 2022, two prominent private secondary schools in Abuja and Lagos, respectively, made headlines when parents called out the school authorities over allegations of rape by teachers of the school.
Despite overwhelming evidence against the authorities, the schools involved refuted the allegations. According to a recent report, sexual harassment is forcing many Nigerian girls out of secondary schools, contributing to the already alarming figure of out-of-school children, especially among girls.
This newspaper thinks that if the government is serious about combating this shameful act, it must compel other states to domesticate the law and follow the lead of Lagos, Edo and Ekiti, which are notable for naming and shaming sex offenders to properly document the culprits.
We also believe urgent steps must be taken to curb this problem. Everyone has a role to play in addressing sexual harassment of young children in schools. Systems should be created that allow students to report incidents anonymously.
Perpetrators, no matter how highly placed, must be brought to justice. Serious situations such as sexual harassment are often ignored and sometimes treated as a joke. This is unacceptable!
