Kylian Mbappe, Rodrygo, and Vinicius Jr. all scored goals as Real Madrid defeated Pachuca of Mexico 3-0 in a lopsided final on Wednesday to win the Intercontinental Cup.
Real did just enough to win handily, and even though they let the CONCACAF champions periodically threaten with counterattacks at the Lusail Stadium in Qatar, they never appeared likely to give up.
Jude Bellingham’s pass to Vinicius Jr., who sprinted past the custodian and placed it on a plate for Mbappe, who tapped it into the empty net, put the Champions League winners up in the 37th minute with a stunning team goal.
In the 52nd minute, Rodrygo made a wonderful effort to increase their lead by beating two defenders, cutting back inside, and curling a beautiful strike into the top corner with his right foot.
After Oussama Idrissi fouled captain Lucas Vazquez inside the box in the 83rd minute, Vinicius Jr. scored from the penalty spot to seal an easy victory for Real Madrid.
Real has now won nine worldwide titles after winning five Club World Cups and three trophies in the original Intercontinental Cup, which was the forerunner of the present system that pitted the European and South American champions against one another.
