Osun 2025 budget: Infrastructure, education gulp N166bn

The Osun State Government has allocated N166,465,076,630 from the N427,746,925,170 budget for 2025, to bolster the infrastructural and educational sector of the state.

This was disclosed by the Commissioner for Economic Planning, Budget and Development, Professor Ademola Adeleke, at the 2025 budget analysis, held at the finance building, Abere on Thursday.

Adeleke noted that the budget will be funded through the Federal Account Allocation Committee (FAAC), Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), among others.

According to him, “Of this amount, N251,670,167,990.00 is expected to come from the Federation Accounts Allocation Committee (FAAC) consisting of Statutory allocation, Value Added Tax, Exchange Rate Gain, Ecological Fund, Electronic Money Transfer Levy and other revenue from FAAC.

“N109,870,932,830.00 is expected from Internally-Generated Revenue (IGR), while N36,204,699,230.00 from other capital recepts as well as N30,001,125,120.00 being the estimated Opening Balance. All these make up the total inflow expected as revenue to the State.

“In the same vein, the Recurrent and Capital Expenditures stood at N236,197,782,900.00 and N191,549,142,270.00 at a ratio of 55 per cent to 45 per cent, respectively.”

While highlighting the breakdown of the budget, Adeleke revealed that Governance gets N59,162,169,140, human capital gets N46,981,263,870, health sector gets N31,243,696,200, Agriculture gets N7,162,112,850, culture and tourism have N6,255,970,530 and among others.

2026: APC Osun West demands Bisi Akande’s support for guber ticket

Leaders of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Osun West Senatorial District have called on a former state and pioneer National Chairman of the party, Adebisi Akande to throw his weight behind the calls for zoning the guber ticket to the district.

The call by the leaders was contained in a congratulatory message issued on Wednesday to mark the 86th birthday of Akande.

The call is coming amid rising calls for the Osun State chapter of the APC led by the former governor and current Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola to zone the party’s ticket to Osun West for the 2026 guber election.

Though most of the groups coming out publicly to clamour for a shift to the district also identifed Oyetola as having the Right of First Refusal, they added that zoning the guber ticket to the district was a matter of fairness since the zone has not produced any guber candidate for the party since the return to democratic rule in 1999.

The Osun West APC leadership subsequently demanded the backing of the former state governor for the district to realise its ambition of producing the APC flag-bearer, if the immediate past governor, Adegboyega Oyetola would not be re-contesting in 2026.

They added that their plea on the elder statesman was because of his uncontested attributes and unbiased sense of fairness and equity.

The West Senatorial, in a statement signed by its Chairman, Akintola Omolaoye, obtained in Osogbo, likened Akande’s political experience to “a pool of wisdom, where many desirous and inquisitive politicians have been drawing over the years especially in an exponential manner since 1999.”

The statement reads in part, “The leadership of APC, OSUN WEST SENATORIAL DISTRICT, is placing its heartfelt congratulations as His Excellency, Chief ‘Bisi AKANDE clocks and marks his glorious 86th year on the land of the living on the 16th day of January 2025.

“The District appreciates God’s goodness and favour for sparing him for us in APC as a political fold and Nigeria as a nation from whose pool of wisdom, many desirous and inquisitive politicians have been drawing over the years especially in an exponential manner since 1999.

“The District’s leadership has unwavering and absolute confidence in your unbiased senses of fairness, justice, equity, spread, inclusivity and promotion of a political sense of belonging upon which democratic governance sustainability wholesomely rested.

“With the above position, our district strongly hopes that if ‘the RIGHT OF FIRST REFUSAL is let loose on 2026’, your Excellency shall be magnanimous to consider the District, as a righteous deed of birthday.”

Osun govt backs FG’s livestock reforms

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has expressed commitment to supporting the Federal Government’s livestock reform initiative aimed at boosting food production across Nigeria.

The reforms, championed by the recently established Presidential Livestock Reforms Implementation Committee, were highlighted during an advocacy visit to Adeleke’s office in Osogbo, the state capital.

The governor reaffirmed in a statement by Kolapo Alimi, the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, that his administration’s readiness to align with the initiative.

During the meeting with the committee, led by Prof Attahiru Jega on Wednesday, Adeleke detailed ongoing efforts by the Osun State Government to position the state as a major contributor to Nigeria’s food security.

The governor outlined measures being implemented to enhance agricultural productivity in Osun, underscoring the importance of integrating the federal livestock reforms into the state’s broader agricultural agenda.

He described the advocacy visit as a platform to strengthen collaboration between the state and federal authorities, with a shared vision of transforming the agricultural sector and ensuring food abundance.

Adeleke in the statement said, “My administration is irrevocably committed to any initiative by the Federal Government that will put more food on the tables of the people of Nigeria.

“While I welcome your team to my dear Osun, the State of the Living Spring, it will interest you to hear that my administration is not leaving any stone unturned to buy this idea.

“One of the efforts of my administration in this regard, among others, was the recent procurement of 31 tractors given to the farmers in the state, aimed at boosting food sufficiency.

“In addition to this, seedlings and other incentives are being given to farmers at will by my administration using a well-structured implementation drive being organized ceaselessly by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security in my state.

“To this end, I want to earnestly declare my interest in this FG’s initiative to boost food production, and very soon, I will put in place a strong committee of egg heads in the field of Agriculture to design a good template for Osun on the best way to reform the livestock sector.”

Earlier, the Co-Chairman of the Presidential Livestock Initiative Reforms Committee and former Chairman of INEC, Jega, said his team was in Osun State to sell the idea of the Committee and its overall objectives, which, if bought into, would go a long way in making Osun benefit maximally.

“I appeal to Governor Adeleke to set up a Ministry of Livestock in Osun State or any agency in that regard that will see to the realisation of the dream of the FG to make livestock available in large quantities throughout Nigeria,” he advised.

Osun: Police warn residents against fraudsters, child molesters

The Osun State Police Command has cautioned residents and business owners against fraudulent bank alerts.

The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Yemisi Opalola, issued the note of caution while parading criminals at the state police headquarters in Osogbo on Wednesday.

Opalola who also warned against criminal activities within the state advised parents to keep watch on their underaged children to prevent defilement.

She issued the warning on the heels of a case of defilement of a five year old female child which is already a subject of litigation.

She said, “I want to caution business owners and traders to be aware of fraudsters who go about issuing fake bank alerts.

“Traders should always ensure they check their bank apps to ensure their money is safely deposited in their accounts before they part with their goods.

“Parents too should be aware of happenings around their children especially the female ones. Calling your daughters ‘my wife’ should be discouraged by every parent.

“Victims are encouraged to alert the police on time for action to be taken.”

Opalola also warned motorists using one way and car dealers operating within the state without number plates.

She said any vehicle impounded by the police will not be released again.

“Motorists should stop using one way. We are warning. The police will no long take it. We will begin to arrest defaulters. When we impound such, bit may not not be released again.”

“Covering of number plates is prohibited. Using vehicles without number plates is also prohibited.

“I am particularly directing this warning to car dealers. When we arrest such vehicle, we will make enquiries about it. If it is not a new vehicle, it will be impounded and may not be released.”

She advised motorists to key into the Central Motor Registry and get their vehicles registered incase of car theft.

“It is very good incase of car theft, it will be easy for police to trace and recover such vehicle.

“Please go and register. You can come to our office at the Osun State Police Command headquarter for registration.”

Osun: Communal crisis looms as IPU accuses Ilobu of encroaching buffer zone

The Ifon-Orolu Progressive Union (IPU) has issued a 14-day ultimatum to the Osun State, Governor Ademola Adeleke, over an alleged occupation of the buffer zone in the Opapa and Igbo Imi-Esin areas, by residents of Ilobu community.

It could be recalled that the conflict between the two communities has resulted in numerous deaths and destruction of property in 2023 and early 2024.

The IPU accused the Ilobu Community of undertaking construction projects, selling land, and destroying economic trees within the buffer zone, despite its designation as a neutral territory.

The IPU in a letter signed by it’s National President, Mohammed Oyedeji and Secretary, Jide Akinyoye noted that failure to address the issue with the given ultimatum might result in a communal war between Ifon-Osun and Ilobu communities over land disputes.

The letter partly reads: “We are writing to express our deep concern and disappointment regarding the recent actions of the llobu Community in the Opapa & Igbo Imi-Esin area, which was recently declared a buffer zone by your administration. Despite this declaration, the community has continued to carry out construction works in the area, demonstrating a blatant disregard for constituted authority.

“This lack of respect for the rule of law and the decisions of the state government has serious implications for the maintenance of law and order, as well as the overall development of the state. It is imperative that your administration takes decisive action to address this issue and ensure that the decisions of the government are respected and enforced.

“We want your administration to understand that this unfortunate situation and lack of respect for constituted authority by the people of Ilobu Community may lead to renewed crisis if concrete action is not taken within the next 14 days.

“Therefore, we urge you to take immediate action to halt the construction works in the Opapa & Igbo Imi-Esin area and to engage with the Ilobu Community to ensure that they understand and respect the decisions of the state government. It is also essential that your administration provides clear guidance and support to the community to ensure that they are aware of the implications of their actions.”

Reacting to the allegations, the Otun Jagun of Ilobu, Chief Leke Ogunsola, disclosed that he’s not aware of any buffer zone, noting that the said land is within the Ilobu community.

He said, “Are they the state government? We are not aware of any buffer zone, the land they are talking about, there is no place called Igbo Imin Esin on their land, Opapa is within Ilobu, so if they have valid court papers on those lands they should bring it out, we have a judgement that covers the land, if they have anything they should go to court.

“We have won up to the court of Appeal, we have the judgment and they are aware of it. So the land they are talking about is within the Ilobu community.”

Attack was unprovoked — Osun monarch breaks silence after palace assault

The Ajeniju of Halleluyah Community in Osun State, Oba Jelili Olaiya, has narrated his ordeal following a violent attack on his palace by hoodlums last Friday.

The monarch revealed that four individuals, including his wife, sustained injuries during the incident, which he attributed to allegations concerning the installation of an Imam in his community without the consent of the Ido-Osun Chief Imam.

Speaking from his hospital bed on Sunday, Oba Olaiya refuted claims that he installed an Imam on Ido-Osun land, stating that his Halleluyah Community is distinct from Ido-Osun.

According to him, the newly installed Imam only conducted prayers in front of his palace, which is outside the jurisdiction of Ido-Osun.

“The installation was done in front of my palace, where we held our Jumat prayer.

“The Chief Imam of Ido-Osun alleged that I built a mosque without his permission, but I clarified to the Divisional Police Officer that there was no new mosque, and my community is not part of Ido-Osun land.”

Oba Olaiya recounted that the attack occurred as the community prepared for prayers.

He said that despite the presence of 18 security personnel, including police officers and members of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the hoodlums stormed the palace, leaving him, his wife, and two others severely injured.

He further alleged that the attackers ignored the explanation provided to the police and launched their assault in the presence of the security operatives.

“My wife, a chief, and a senior cleric were among those attacked. The violence was unprovoked, and I call for calm while the government intervenes,” he said.

Oba Olaiya also appealed for enhanced security in the area to prevent further disturbances.

He urged the authorities to address the underlying issues that triggered the crisis.

DAILY POST had earlier reported that Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke issued a stern warning to youth groups behind the recent attacks on Oba Olaiya and the razing of his palace.

Governor Adeleke also directed security agencies to fish out those responsible for the dastardly acts.

Gov Adeleke lied, Osun govt accessed N56bn World Bank loan- Osun APC

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressive Congress, has accused Governor Ademola Adeleke of secretly obtaining a N56 billion loan through the Nigeria Covid19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus, NG- CARES.

Speaking at a press conference held at the Ilerioluwa house, Osogbo, Osun State, on Monday, the Director of media and publicity, Kola Olabisi disclosed that the State has accessed the sum of N32 billion. in 2024.

He further added that she has signed all relevant documents to signify her intention to obtain the sum of N24 billion in the second phase, stressing that the disbursement of the facility is scheduled for any moment from now

Olabisi said: “Let’s expantiate on the debt binge of the state under Governor Ademola Adeleke for better understanding. The current administration in Osun is on the verge of putting the future of Osun State into a deep financial mess as it has obtained a combined foreign loans of $51 million, N81.6 billion equivalent, using the exchange rate of N1,600 to 1$USD .

“Information obtained from the Federal Ministry of Finance indicates that Osun State has accessed the sum of $20 million of N-CARES, equivalent of N32 billion.

“Ordinarily, the first phase of the NG-CARES ended in June 2024, however, the Osun State governor, we are aware, has been misled to go for the second phase of the programme. Therefore, the state has signed all relevant documents to signify her intention to participate in the second phase of the NG-CARES programme. It is called NG-CARES additional financing. The Naira equivalent of the loan is N24 billion and the disbursement of this facility is scheduled for any moment from now. In total, the state will obtain the sum of $35 million (equivalent of N56 billion) on the NG -CARES facility.

“The impression that the administration has not obtained any loans since inception is a lie from the pit of hell. Part of the state’s 2024 budget is being financed from the NG-CARES facility.”

Reacting to the allegation, the spokesperson to the Governor, Olawale Rasheed, described the news as fake, accusing the APC of peddling fake news.

According to him, I’m a member of the executive council since the beginning, and I want to tell you, there has never been any member seeking approval for any loan for any project in Osun that is a fake news. APC has been peddling the news, and we’ve been debunking it, but the lucky thing for us is that Osun people are highly educated and they know when a government wants to take a loan.

“How can you call N’care, World Bank matter that we even inherited from both Governor Aregbesola and, former governor Oyetola. How can you call it our matter? It’s not our matter. It’s a federal Matter”.
