The Zamfara State government has assured that it will give its total support to the ongoing battle against banditry in the state especially on the Gusau – Funtua highway.
The Governor who was represented by his Deputy, Mani Mumuni, while speaking to journalists at the Government House in Gusau, said the state, especially the Gusau Funtua axis has become very dangerous due to constant bandits’ attacks.
He pleaded with the military to provide a means of solving the problem, saying that travellers are not comfortable moving along the highway anymore.
“Most of the businessmen go to Kaduna and Nano to purchase their goods but they cannot do it now, because of the fear of being attacked, kidnapped or killed.
In response, the military Commander, AI Ajose assured the state government that every care will be taken to protect travellers along the Gusau-Funtua road.
The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a stern warning to factional leaders within the party, stating that it may resort to using security agencies to enforce compliance and uphold the rule of law following internal conflicts.
This announcement was made during a press briefing on Monday by Acting National Publicity Secretary Ibrahim Abdullahi Manga.
Manga addressed the media to clarify the recent turmoil within the PDP, marked by the suspension of key party officials, including the National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, and National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade, SAN.
The PDP National Working Committee (NWC) explained that the suspensions were necessary to facilitate an investigation into allegations of “abuse of office and insubordination.”
“We must ensure that certain actions are not guided by sentiments and personal interests, but by the party’s constitution,” Manga stated, urging party members to avoid conflicts that could jeopardize the PDP’s future.
He emphasized the need for unity, warning that continued infighting could lead to the party’s downfall.
Manga expressed disappointment at the reactions of the suspended officials, accusing them of adopting a “motor park” approach to what he described as a procedural suspension aimed at giving them the opportunity to clear their names.
He criticized the spread of misinformation regarding the legitimacy of the leadership changes and urged members to rally behind the acting leadership.
In a more serious tone, Manga declared that if necessary, the party would involve security agencies to enforce compliance with party rules and address any reckless violations of a subsisting court order related to the ongoing disputes.

“In the face of this reckless violation of a subsisting court order, we are left with no option but to deploy the services of security agencies to enforce the rule of law,” he said.
This statement signals a potential escalation in tensions within the PDP, which has faced significant internal strife in recent months.
As the party strives to maintain its status as Nigeria’s major opposition force, Manga called for solidarity among members and support for Acting National Chairman Amb. Umar Iliya Damagum.
He urged all party stakeholders to focus on resolving ongoing issues and reaffirmed the PDP’s commitment to its foundational values of democracy and governance.
The Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 2, Onikan, Adegoke Fayoade, has said that the rape allegation involving a Lagos policeman is receiving adequate attention.
Fayoade, who was recently promoted to the rank of AIG and deployed to Zone 2, Lagos, is the immediate past Commissioner of Police in Lagos.
The Lagos State Police Command in July said it detained one of its officers who allegedly raped a 17-year-old girl at the Area H Command, Ogudu area of the state.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, who confirmed the detention of the officer, whose identity has not been disclosed, denied allegations that the police authority was shielding the suspect.
When quizzed on Wednesday on the state of the matter which happened while he was the CP, the AIG said the case was receiving adequate attention.
He said this while addressing journalists on Wednesday at a symposium organised by the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency, held in Ikeja, the state capital.
The AIG maintained that such cases were not tolerated within the police ranks.
Fayoade said, “Such cases are not tolerated by the police. And generally, when we have such issues, we don’t spare our own, we make sure that necessary actions are taken.
“And once we do that, we hand over such a person to the law enforcement agency to face the wrath of the law. I know there was a case like that, and that case is receiving very due attention.”
While also responding to a question from PUNCH Metro on the case during the symposium, the Executive Secretary, LDSVA, Titiloloa Vivour-Adeniyi, also confirmed that the case was under investigation.
“Yes, that case is under investigation. As a police officer, he has to be court-martialed because he can’t just be released to the criminal court.
“So, as of the last time we followed up, we found out that we were still awaiting the court-martial process,” she responded.
She added, “I also think that more attention should be paid to prevention – preventing women from getting into these kinds of relationships and situations that will put them in a dilemma and death or abuse.”
Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has described the nationwide hunger and end bad governance protest as a complex chess game of power with unseen hands.
In like manner, former Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole said the protest has assumed an agenda to achieve regime change by those who lost out politically.
Recall that some prominent Nigerians and political parties, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar; former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi; Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP) faulted the president’s speech as failing to address the yearnings of the agitators.
But Keyamo, a senior lawyer, in a tweet, reacting to comments on President Bola Tinubu’s speech appealing to protesters to halt demonstrations, said those bent on instigating mayhem in the system were always going to denigrate the president’s speech no matter how many redrafts he does.
He said, “Even if Mr. President @officialABAT redrafts his wonderful speech one million times over, those with nefarious intentions will continue to pooh-pooh it in order to justify their continued instigation of mayhem. Their real intention is to force the hand of Mr. President to negotiate power with them. It is as simple as that.
“The fall guys are the ignorant, but patriotic compatriots on social media screaming their heads off and the robbers and hoodlums that are rampaging on the streets. Behind all these facade is a complex chess game of power with unseen hands,” he said.
On his part, Oshiomhole, a serving senator, in an interview on ARISE yesterday, said while the protests initially focused on legitimate concerns about hunger and economic hardship, they have been hijacked by individuals pushing for an overhaul of the government.
He said any push for regime change must adhere to constitutional processes and be pursued through elections.
The former APC national chairman also tackled a former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, who has been vocal in recent protests.
He said, “I did say that let nobody talk about peaceful protest. Whereas I recognise the right to peaceful protest, which I exploited, enjoyed and praticalised, I also said when you exercise that right to protest, you must also look at the demands and I have looked at it and my take away from it is a lot of these guys are only hiding under hunger. What they are actually asking for is regime change and I said you cannot legally, lawfully and peacefully demand regime change under the Nigerian constitution.
“On the day before the protest, I saw many people calling for peaceful protests, emphasising that the constitution guarantees the right to peaceful protest. I have led so many protests, both in the public and the private sector, national level.
“It must be clear to everybody that the only way to effect a change of government is to go through an election as provided for in the constitution. There is no room for regime change, no room for military takeover of government in Nigeria.
“The issue is not about if there is hunger. The issue is that the people used what the people can feel. At no time in my protest history did I demand regime change.
“I emphasised regime change because I know the logic. These people, I don’t know them. Who are those who want to take back Nigeria from Nigeria? The business of governance is not a tea party,” he said.
The national president of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Abubakar Maigandi Shettima, has called on all members to disregard the ongoing nationwide #EndBadGovernance protests.
He also urged members of the association to remain calm and dedicated to their business activities amidst ongoing efforts by President Bola Tinubu-led administration to achieve economic recovery.
In a statement, Shettima and the national secretary of the union, James Terlumun, emphasised the importance of dialogue and constructive engagement, while advising against highhandedness by security agents or destructive actions by the protesters.
They cautioned IPMAN members against being misled by unidentified individuals who might not have the nation’s best interests at heart.
The statement read in parts, “All over the world, protests are organised by recognised groups with known leaders who take responsibility for their peaceful focus.
“However, when protests are called by faceless groups with no known leaders, there is a greater chance of violence.”
The union further urged IPMAN members and the general public to avoid involvement in any chaotic event that could result in the loss of lives and properties, stressing the need for maintaining peace across Nigeria.
The Movement for the Survival of Ogoni People in the United States of America (MOSOP-USA), has called on President Bola Tinubu to include the creation of Bori State from the present Rivers State, in the ongoing review of the 1999 constitution of Nigeria by the National Assembly.
The Ogoni ethnic nationality is made up of six kingdoms, namely Babe Kingdom, Eleme Kingdom, Gokana Kingdom,
Ken-Khana Kingdom, Nyo-Khana Kingdom and Tai Kingdom, as well as two special units, Bori and Lekuma-Khana Special Units.
The six kingdoms and special units are located in five local government areas, namely Eleme, Gokana, Khana, Oyigbo and Tai of Rivers State.
MOSOP-USA, in a letter addressed to President Tinubu and signed by its President, DineBari Augustine Kpuinen, and four others, demanded that the Ogoni ethnic nationality be granted political autonomous state in the country.
The letter reads in part: “The Ogoni land consists of Six Kingdoms and Two Special units, namely: Babe Kingdom, Eleme Kingdom, Gokana Kingdom, KenKhana Kingdom, NyoKhana Kingdom, Tai Kingdom, Bori Special Unit, and LekumaKhana Special Unit. These Kingdoms are merged into Five Local Government Councils: Eleme LGA, Gokana LGA, Khana LGA, Oyigbo LGA, and Tai LGA.
“MOSOP-USA demands that these six Kingdoms and two special units, commonly known as Ogoni, be granted a politically autonomous State in Nigeria.
“Ogoni people, an ethnic nationality in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria, have their history and struggles long before the British intrusion and the Nigerian independence in 1960.
“In 1947, Ogoni, under the leadership of the late Timothy Naakuu Pau Birabi, fought hard and made representations to the colonial British government during the colonial era to regain Ogoni’s self-governance, which led to the establishment of the Ogoni Sate Representative Assemby (OSRA).
“In the 1950s, Ogoni and other ethnic minorities agitated for their separate states with the imminence of Nigerian Independence. Alternatively, these ethnic minorities demanded constitutional safeguards to guarantee their rights and freedom within the federation.
“In 1957, the Willinks Minority Commission, convened by the British Government, denied the creation of a separate state alongside Nigeria, but recommended that the Bill of Rights be included in the constitution at independence to protect the ethnic minorities, as is the pattern in the European Conventions on Human
Rights.”
The National Working Committee, NWC, of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has debunked reports that some ward members of the party in certain states were requested to revalidate their membership in the on-going membership drive.
In a statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, on Monday, he clarified that the on-going membership drive and registration of new members was only targeted at eligible Nigerians who were interested in joining the party.
The NWC added that the membership status, rights and privileges of already existing members remained valid and in no way whatsoever affected by the membership drive.
The statement reads in part, “The NWC in clear terms clarifies that the on-going membership drive and registration of new members is only targeted at providing opportunity and access to eligible Nigerians who are enthusiastic and surging in their millions to register as members of our Party across the country.
“Consequently, no existing member is expected or required to have his or her membership revalidated as such individuals remain bona-fide members of the Party and not subject to any form of revalidation.
“All members and officers of our Party, especially at all Electoral Wards across the country, should take note of the above and be guided accordingly.”
