FIFA World Cup scorers Shakirat Moshood and Harmony Chidi were chosen by head coach Bankole Olowookere from a list of 20 Nigeria U17 girls, Flamingos players for the WAFU B U17 Girls’ Cup, which begins on Thursday.
Along with them are midfielder Faridat Abdulwahab, attackers Peace Effiong and Mary Lucky Nkpa, defenders Taiwo Adegoke and Ayomide Ibrahim, and goalkeeper Christiana Uzoma.
Following Burkina Faso’s withdrawal, hosts Ghana will play Benin Republic in group A, while the Flamingos are in Group B, along with the U17 girls of Niger Republic and Cote d’Ivoire, in the two-week competition.
In the past, Togo had pulled out of the competition.
After scoring nine goals in the group stage, Nigeria’s U17 girls advanced to the quarterfinals in the most recent FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup finals in the Dominican Republic before losing to the United States of America in the Round of 8.
