Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Niger State Command has arrested one Nura Yerima, a 35- year old man for allegedly posting and circulating on social media false allegations against personnel of the Corps, SC Idris Sa’idu.
The suspect was said to have in a false video that trended on social media, alleged that SC Idris Sa’idu was involved in a shady business of supplying rifles to bandits.
However, Tribune Online gathered that a court of competent jurisdiction in Niger State through suit No: MN/ MTB/ CR/ 60/14, dated July 8, 2015, has exonerated the officer.
Addressing Journalists at a news briefing at the Command’s headquarters, David Mark Road in Minna, on Wednesday, October 15, 2024, the Commandant of the Corps in the State, Mr Adamu Abdullahi Kambara, informed Journalists that the Command had initially ignored the false video which the culprit, Nura Yerima, posted and circulated on the social media, stressing that, “as the clip continued to trend, we didn’t have any option than to trace and arrest him.”
Kambara further disclosed that the suspect was already in custody of the Command for further investigation, after which, he would be arraigned in court for prosecution.
Commandant Adamu Kambara however, noted that the suspect was apprehended by his operatives on September 17th, 2024, stating that his arrest was aimed at reaffirming the Command’s commitment in protecting the Corps’ integrity and its personnel.
In another development, Kambara told Journalists that the command’s operation Flush Patrol team has arrested three teenagers who were allegedly specialized in phone snatching from unsuspecting individuals in Tunga, Land Mark Bakery area in Minna.
Among the exhibits said to have been recovered from the suspects, include a Cutlass, knives and other dangerous weapons.
The Commandant, NSCDC,Niger State Command, Mr. Adamu Abdullahi Kambara added that the suspects were currently under investigation and would be charged to Court for diligent prosecution.
According to the Commandant, no amount of blackmail nor campaign of calumny against the corps will deter His men from doing their job of protection of Critical National Assets and Infrastructures in the State.
He reiterated the Command’s resolve to make the state uninhabitable to vandals and other criminal elements in the state .
Commandant Kambara, thereby urged members of the public to disregard the false information, as being circulated by the first suspect, Nura Yerima..
He appealed to members of the public to always verify information through the proper official channels noting that “spreading false and unverifiable information undermines national security and damages our reputation.
He said the offenders will be made to face the full weight of legal consequences.
While assuring of his unwavering commitment towards the Command’s dedication and readiness to the maintenance of law and order in the state.
The Commandant highlighted that the NSCDC,Niger State Command, in Minna under his watch will continue to strive hard in the protection of lives and properties of the citizenry and also combat criminal elements with absolute professionalism and integrity at all times.
