It’s Martha Stewart‘s world, and R.J. Cutler just documented it.
After the Martha Stewart Living founder let her displeasure with the recent documentary about her be known, the director of the Netflix film is sharing his thoughts on the situation.
“Martha saw the film, and she told me what she thought about it,” Cutler told Matt Beloni on the Nov. 13 episode of his podcast The Town. “It wasn’t surprising to me that she would’ve made a different film than I made. She gave me her feedback, and she was upset that I didn’t make the changes that she wanted to make, but this is the process.”
The director—who also made 2009’s The September Issue about Anna Wintour and 2021’s Billie Eilish: The World’s a Little Blurry—revealed that he’d had extensive exchanges with Stewart, 83, that will never see the light of day.
“We had many conversations, and one day I’ll publish—I won’t, really!—but I would fantasize about one day publishing the text messages,” Cutler joked. “I will tell you that Martha expressed herself fully to me in her text messages.”

Martha Stewart‘s ex-husband isn’t entertaining her claims about their relationship.
Andrew Stewart—who finalized his divorce from the media mogul in 1990—and his wife of nine years Shyla Nelson Stewart shared a message about moving on following Martha’s accusations that they both had affairs during their over 25-year marriage in her Netflix documentary Martha.
“Every day, we openly express our gratitude for our love and for our life together,” Shyla and Andrew wrote in an Oct. 12 Facebook post. “We both wish everyone, including Martha herself, the experience of loving and being loved deeply and fully, and the peace that comes from such a love.”
And while Shyla admitted that Andrew’s past love story had its ups and down, the publishing CEO didn’t believe rehashing the details was in anyone’s best interest.
“Prior to this happy chapter of his life, Andy had some dark ones, including a painful and abusive marriage to Martha,” Shyla wrote. “While Andy quietly moved on and forward with his life, it appears that Martha continues to publicly relitigate the marriage, including comments in a sensationalized trailer for an upcoming documentary on Netflix.”
Joan Vassos has cooked up some thoughts about Martha Stewart.
The Golden Bachelorette star said that she reached out to the culinary guru after she made claims about the men vying for her love.
“I DM’d her last night and I said dating it hard out there and I had a great group of guys she doesn’t know them like I know them, Joan said during an Oct. 22 interview with Access Hollywood. “I got to know the inside of them as well as the outside both are wonderful.”
Martha’s recent comments came during her Oct. 20 appearance on Watch What Happens Live, when Andy Cohen asked if she would consider looking for love as the Golden Bachelorette, even if a million dollars was on the table.
The Food Network star wasn’t convinced, comma saying, “The guys aren’t hot enough.”
However, Joan doesn’t believe Martha can possibly be talking about her men.
