Malawi will conclude their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) campaign with a home fixture against Burkina Faso at the Bingu National Stadium on Monday.
The Malawi U17 Girls’ national team coach Linda Kasenda has named a 34-member provisional squad to go into camp in preparation for this year’s COSAFA U17 Girls’ Championship.
The team is expected to regroup at Anna’s Lodge in Blantyre from 20th November 2024 ahead of the tournament which will take place from December 4th to 13th in Maputo, Mozambique alongside the TotalEnergies U17 Boys Africa Cup of Nations-Cosafa Qualifier.
Malawi are group B alongside South Africa, Namibia and Madagascar.

The Flames have safely arrived in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia en route to Abidjan Ivory Coast for Thursday’s AFCON Qualifier against Burundi.
The team will leave Addis Ababa at 8am on Wednesday and expected to arrive in a Abidjan at noon. Later in the afternoon the team will go for a final training session at the match venue.

Flames interim head coach Kalisto Pasuwa has named a 25-man squad for the last 2025 African Cup of Nations qualifiers against Burundi and Burkina Faso next week.
The Flames will face Burundi away in Ivory Coast on Thursday November 14, before closing their campaign with a home match against Burkina Faso at Bingu National Stadium on Monday November 18.
Pasuwa ,who was appointed caretaker coach following the departure of Patrick Mabedi, has among others, recalled South African based striker Gabadinho Mhango and defender Charles Petro who plays in Romania.
The local based players are expected to regroup in Lilongwe over the weekend and leave for Ivory Coast on Monday while the foreign based players will travel direct to Abidjan from their respective bases.

Results from match day 2 of Group B at the 2024 HOLLYWOODBETS COSAFA Women’s Championship have left the pool wide open with three sides still with a chance to qualify for the semi-finals following matches at Madibaz Stadium in Gqeberha on Saturday.
Botswana went to the top of the log with four points after thrashing Mauritius 5-0 in the first game. Yaone Modise scored the third hat-trick of the tournament with all her goals coming in the second half including a late penalty in the game.
The other two goals came from Keitumetse Dithebe in the opening 10 minutes and Ontlametse Gaonyadiwe in injury time of the first stanza.
The Mares dominated their opponents, who also had chances to score, allowing the Botswana captain and goalkeeper Sedilame Bosija to show her experience in denying them a goal.
Meanwhile, defending champions Malawi were made to sweat for their first win at the 2024 event with Aseminye Simwaka getting on the score-sheet in the opening minutes of the tie with Madagascar.
Simwaka could have had a brace however Madagascar goalkeeper Verasantatra Diana was determined to keep the scoreline respectable late in the first half.
Malagasy striker Marie Sarah had a good opportunity to level for her side just before the break with only the Malawi keeper to beat and it was Mercy Sikelo who won that contest.In the second half Madagascar had a shot to level through Aimme Christina she got in the opposition box but could only shoot wide over the bar.
It was the star of their opening match again 20 minutes to time with a set-piece however it was an easy save for Sikelo.
The Scorchers launched strong attempts to get a cushion goal however no-one took the responsibility to bury the chances created in the dying minutes of the game.
They are second in the group with an inferior goal difference, followed by Madagascar with three points and Mauritius at the bottom.
Defending champions Malawi started the defense of their title with a 1-1 draw against Botswana at Isaac Wolfson Stadium on day two of the HOLLYWOODBETS COSAFA Women’s Championship in Gqeberha, South Africa on Wednesday.
Madagascar claimed a 5-1 victory in the other fixture in Group B earlier in the day. Malawi looked stronger in the opening 20 minutes of the game but Botswana had a solid defense with the experience of captain and goalkeeper Sedilame Boseja also showing.
The Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies keeper twice denied Asimenye Simwaka the opener. The Mares were eventually beaten when Malawi won a corner-kick just before the half-hour mark with Faith Chinzimu picking up a loose ball to break the dead lock.
Botswana could have equalized a few minutes after conceding from a set-piece as well. They had a corner and Kesegofetse Mochawe sent the ball to Lone Gaofetoge, but the midfielder’s header went wide.
Five minutes to the break Botswana had a good team goal started by Keitumetse Dithebe who passed to Lesego Radiakanyo, who then set-up Laone Moloi for the equalizer.
The opening minutes of the second half did not produce much in terms of goal scoring opportunities for both sides. Just before the hour mark Botswana could have grabbed a lead when Moloi found Mochawe, who took a shot, however it went wide.
Gaonyadiwe Ontlametse also had a chance in the last 20 minutes of the encounter but Mercy Sikelo came out to deny her. Sikelo was called to make another crucial save when substitute Yaone Modise tested her from inside the box in the dying minutes of the game to secure Malawi’s point.
The result means Madagascar, who defeated fellow Islanders Mauritius 5-1 in an earlier kick-off at the same venue, leading the group with three points, followed by Botswana on one point.
The Scorchers are in third spot on the same number of points and Mauritius prop up the pool. Sarah Rasoanandrasana scored a brace for Madagascar while Sylvia Mamonjy, Helisoa Kanto and Louisa Nambininjanahary were also on the scoresheet for Malagasy.
There was a historic moment for Mauritius, who missed the last edition, as they scored their very first goal in their history at the tournament through Julie Gopal.
Meanwhile Day 3 on Thursday will see the opening matches in Group C and Group D, which only have three teams in each pools.
The 2022 winners Zambia and Angola are up first in Group C at 12:00 p.m. CAT and will be followed by Mozambique against Zimbabwe in Group D at 3:00 p.m.
Senegal, the defending CAF Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations champions, won their first game of the competition, defeating Malawi 6-1 in Hurghada.
The injured Lions of Teranga made a clear statement of purpose after a dismal start to the campaign in which they lost 5-2 to Mauritania, who were playing their first game.
They were clinical in front of goal. The victory greatly increases the aspirations of the reigning champions to retain their crown, but they still have work to do in their last Group B game.
Tuesday’s showdown between Senegal and Mozambique in Group B looks to be a fiercely contested affair between the two tournament favourites.
The Malawi National Women’s team leaves today for Gqeberha, South Africa for the 2024 Hollywoodbets Cosafa Women’s Championship scheduled to take place from October 22nd to November 6 2024.
The team will depart in two groups with the first one leaving this morning flying to Gqeberha while the second group will leave in the afternoon and spend a night in Johannesburg before proceeding tomorrow morning.
Head Coach Lovemore Fazili has trusted the services of 23 players ahead of the crucial regional title defence campaign in South Africa. MDF Lioness goalkeeper Yamikani Kawonga, Ascent Soccer’s Maureen Kenneth, FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Women’s Tendai Sani, Silver Strikers’ Chisomo Banda and MDF Lioness’ Catherine Kachala have found their names in the team’s final squad for the first time while Bullets Women’s Pilirani Malora returns to the squad after missing for over five years.
Fazili will however be missing the services of a good number of foreign-based players including Tabitha and Temwa Chawinga, Chimwemwe Madise, Ireen Khumalo, Chioma Okafor and Vitumbiko Mkandawire who have been ruled out to club engagements .
The Scorchers will begin this year’s campaign against Botswana on October 23rd before facing Madagascar on October 26th. Their last group stage game is against Mauritius on October 28th.
This year’s tournament has four groups and only group leaders will proceed to the knockout phase.

Senegal, who had been lacking goals lately, demonstrated their return to form at the top of the pitch on Friday, defeating Malawi 4-0 at Stade Me Abdoulaye Wade.
The Lions of Teranga have won their past seven games in a row, with five triumphs and two draws.
They are enjoying their first winning streak in competitive games since January.
Following their COSAFA Cup elimination by Lesotho in July 2023, Malawi went on a downhill spiral that culminated in their humiliating loss to Senegal.
The Flames are now bottom of Group L, having failed to score in each of their three AFCON qualification matches.
They are currently below their next opponents by seven points going into Tuesday’s game in Lilongwe.
