Rio Ferdinand has voiced strong opinions on Chelsea winger Noni Madueke’s reaction to being substituted in Blues 1-1 draw with Arsenal.
The Manchester United legend called the 21-year-old’s behaviour “disrespectful,” suggesting a two-week wage fine.
Madueke started the match but struggled to impact the game, with Arsenal’s Jurrien Timber neutralizing his efforts.
When Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca decided to substitute him in the second half, Madueke stormed down the tunnel rather than taking his place on the bench.
Maresca later dismissed the incident as an emotional but typical reaction to being subbed, emphasizing the desire players have to stay on the pitch.
However, Ferdinand, speaking on his Rio Ferdinand Presents podcast, felt differently, suggesting that Chelsea’s young squad lacks the experienced figures to enforce discipline.
He stated, “In my day, no one would accept that behaviour. Madueke’s reaction shows a lack of respect for both the manager and the team.”
Ferdinand urged Maresca to take a stronger stance, stating, “That’s a two-week fine.”
