Romelu Lukaku’s second-half goal gave Napoli the three points and the top spot in Serie A as they defeated AS Roma 1-0 at home on Sunday.
Napoli broke the tie after 54 minutes when Lukaku slid in to score against the team he played for the previous season after Giovanni Di Lorenzo’s low cross was met from close range.
Artem Dovbyk’s header off the woodwork from a free kick minutes later gave Roma a wake-up after Lukaku’s goal, but they were unable to equalise.
After 13 games, Napoli has 29 points, one more than Atalanta, Inter Milan, and Fiorentina, who are in second, third, and fourth place, respectively.
It was Claudio Ranieri first game in charge as Roma new manager following the sacking of Gilardino by the club.
