The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has revoked 762 plots of land in Abuja, including those allocated to former President Muhammadu Buhari, Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, former Chief Justice of Nigeria Walter Onnoghen, and several corporate organizations.
The revocation was due to the failure to pay for the Certificates of Occupancy (C-of-O) of the properties.
According to reports, the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) disclosed in public notices that the affected plots are situated in the upscale Maitama 1 District of the federal capital.
Wike also issued a warning that the Rights of Occupancy (R-of-O) of 614 additional individuals and companies would be withdrawn if they failed to settle outstanding payments for their plots within two weeks.
Prominent individuals affected by the revocation include former governors Rochas Okorocha (Imo State), Ben Ayade (Cross River), Seriake Dickson (Bayelsa), Shaaba Lafiagi (Kwara), Ahmad Sani (Zamfara), and Kabiru Gaya (Kano).
The list also includes current and former federal lawmakers such as Enyinnaya Abaribe, Abdul Ningi, Sunday Karimi, Abdulfatai Buhari, Dino Melaye, Barnabas Gemade, Shehu Sani, Adeyemi Adaramodu, Abba Moro, Danjuma La’ah, and Abdulmumin Jibrin.
Others whose plots were affected include Agom Jarigbe, Obinna Chidoka, Nicholas Mutu, Dan Reneiju, Ezenwa Oyewuchi, Chinyere Igwe, David Umaru, Oluwole Oke, and Oker Jev.
The notice said, “The Federal Capital Territory Administration wishes to inform the allottee (s)/title holder (s) of plots of land in Maitama 1 who have failed to make payment for their Certificate of Occupancy (C-of-O) bills after the expiration of grace period granted by the Honourable Minister, Federal Capital Territory that their Right of Occupancy to the land/property have been withdrawn, pursuant to the provisions of Section 28 of the Land Use Act of 1978 for contravention of the terms of grant which obligated the title/interest holders to settle all bills.
“Section 28 of the Land Use Act, to which the FCTA notice referred, stipulates how landed properties vested in individuals can be revoked by authorities. Subsection Five (5) empowers state governors (the Minister of the FCT in the case of Abuja) to revoke a statutory right of occupancy on the ground of-
(a) a breach of any of the provisions which a certificate of occupancy is by section 10 of this Act deemed to contain;
(b) a breach of any term contained in the certificate of occupancy or in any special contract made under section 8 of this Act.
“The non-payment of statutory fees by landowners are considered violations for which allocated plots can be revoked.”
According to Premium Times, the list of former and current lawmakers affected includes the Senate Chief Whip, Tahir Monguno; former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Chibudom Nwuche; former Senate Leader, Teslim Folarin; and others such as Nnenna Ukeje, Obinna Chidoka, Dapo Lam-Adesina, Leo Ogor, Francis Alimkhena, Smart Adeyemi, and Lynda Ikpeazu.
Additional names on the list include Andy Uba, Biodun Olujimi, Agom Jarigbe, Kingsley Chinda, and Ben Obi.
Also facing the threat of revocation are former Ebonyi State Governor Sam Egwu, former Minister of Aviation Stella Oduah, and the current Deputy Governor of Edo State, Dennis Idahosa.
Notably, Sam Egwu is a former Minister of Education and a serving senator, while Stella Oduah, who represented Anambra North in the Senate, also held a ministerial position in aviation.
The notice added, “The Federal Capital Territory Administration hereby informs the general public, particularly allotee (s)/title holder (s) of land in the Maitama 1 District of the FCT who have since made payment of their outstanding Certificate of Occupancy (C-of-O) bills to as a matter of urgency pay the balance of their bills within two weeks from the date of this publication or have their Rights of Occupancy (R-of-O) titles withdrawn.”

No fewer than three persons were said to have been arrested with guns as they encroached on the land allegedly owned by the Okwesi family in Akwuzu, Oyi Local Government Area, Anambra State.
Their alleged arrest, it was gathered was a sequel to a written petition by the family to the Inspector General of Police, IGP, Mr. Kayode Egbetokun , disclosing that their ancestral land is being encroached upon by the suspects who it was learned have continued to encroach on the land with arms despite a repeated warning to vacate the land.
Charles Okwesi, the chairman of the Okwesi family, while reacting to the arrest commended the IGP stating that the Chief Executive Officer of Pineleaf Estate, Bishop Onyeka Nzekwesi, used the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), stationed at Akwuzu, to arrest them on their own land, labeling them criminals to be jailed.
“Nzekwesi also brought soldiers to assist and disposses us of our land which resulted in the people of Awkuzu fleeing the community in droves over fear of attack since the soldiers were armed to the teeth parading the streets.
“Among the three that were arrested with guns to disposes us of our land included Prince Gozie Obinabu from a neighbouring community, Ifite Dunu, and they have been whisked to Abuja by the IGP monitoring team that came from Abuja.
“We are very happy with the arrest because those arrested are working for Pineleaf Estate management who has been threatening us in our land and telling us that if we are jailed nobody will speak for us. We have constantly been attacked by land grabbers at the land located at Nkpan village by armed thugs that wanted to grab the land.
“We can’t allow them to disposses us of our land instead let them kill us all there because they feel they have the money to intimidate us and the Pineleaf CEO has told us in our face that our efforts to stop him is like a storm in a tea cup,” he disclosed.
Nzekwesi in a swift reaction to the arrest maintained that he had no armed men and was never violent as claimed by Okwesi’s family.
“I am not even violent, I don’t have armed men, what I have are staff, genuine security men. I don’t destroy people’s property,” he stated.
On Soldiers’ presence on the land earlier, Nzekwesi clarified that drafting soldiers into the land for security was the sole arrangement of the concerned villagers who decided to protect their own against invaders and to prevent serious security breaches.
The spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, when contacted said that he could not comment on the matter as it was under higher authority.
Ikenga while declining further comments stated also that the incident was outside the state police jurisdiction, maintaining that only the Force Headquarters could comment on the issue.
A lady has stunned the internet after landing in the hospital following a visit to a piece of land that has been the source of a long-standing feud between her father and uncle.
In a TikTok video, she shared her experience, showing footage of her walking on the disputed property.
The land, which has caused tension between her father and uncle, was the focus of her visit.
However, shortly after stepping onto the land, she ended up in the hospital.
The video’s caption adds context, stating: “You decided to visit the land your uncle has been arguing with your dad about.”
The video concludes with a scene of the lady in the hospital receiving treatment.

Elders from Obinagu Achalla of Enugwu-Agidi community in Njikoka LGA, Anambra State, have commenced a peace move to end the 70 years old land dispute with the neighbouring Ezinano village, Awka South LGA.
Some elders of the community, who spoke to journalists during a peace meeting, acknowledged the place of peace in the development of any community.
One of the elders, Mr Cyprian Odogwu, 89, said, “We have decided to have round table discussion to broker peace with Awka people. Unfortunately, there are some people that are hellbent to stop us from actualising this peace initiative. Those people are responsible for selling our land anyhow without accounting for them.
“You know, there are people in every society who benefit when there is crisis in the land.
“However, we separated ourselves from those trouble makers and solicit for peace with Awka people for our future generations.”
Ichie Wilson Okeofor, 98, added, “We need peace because we have suffered for this land since 1954 when the case was instituted in London.
“We have spent money over litigation and finally decided to engage in peace negotiations with Ezinano community.
“We are no longer interested in shooting and maiming each other over land matter. We wish to unite with Awka people.
“Those people that are trying to thwart this peace initiative know themselves in the community and they gain much through this selfish approach.”
DAILY POST learnt that both communities have over the years lost properties amounting to several millions as a rest of hostilities surrounding the dispute.

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barr Nyesom Wike on Thursday vowed to intensify ongoing demolition of illegal structures in Abuja even as he declared total war on land grabbers.
He said no amount of blackmail from any quarter will stop government current efforts to sanitize property development in the city stressing “let heaven fall”.
Addressing the issue of land allocation in Abuja, the Minister said that his administration will not tolerate blackmail or illegal occupation of government land insisting that anyone seeking to acquire land must follow the proper procedures and obtain formal approval.
He spoke while presenting 50 Hilux vehicles to security agencies in the territory on Thursday in Abuja,
According to him, “let me use this opportunity to tell Nigerians and residents of Abuja we are not afraid of blackmail.
“In fact, you cannot be in this kind of position if you say you don’t want to be blackmailed particularly as regards this Abuja. There are so many land grabbers”
“Some of us have come to put our feet down. Let heaven fall … It is feeling better that heaven comes down now. So I will not be fasting again to go to heaven. We will stop anybody who thinks that he can obtain government land without formal approval. We will not look at your face.
“If you like, you can be a civil rights activist. If you like, you can be a television talker. What is wrong is wrong.
“No amount of blackmail can stop us. People take government property without approval, without document and I have told people that there was a government yesterday, the government did not take any step does not mean that another government will come today and will not take steps. ”
Continuing he said, “What is wrong is wrong. No amount of blackmail can stop us.”
Meanwhile, Wike has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to prioritizing security in Abuja, as he gave out 50 Hilux vehicles to security agencies in the territory.
He stressed that security is the cornerstone of any government, and that his administration is dedicated to providing the necessary logistics to support federal security agencies.
Wike highlighted that the provision of funding in the budget has enabled the purchase of brand-new vehicles for security agencies. In the last three to four months, 50 vehicles were provided, and an additional 50 are being handed over. This brings the total number of vehicles provided to 100.
He noted that his administration is taking a proactive approach to security, rather than reacting to incidents after they occur.
He also noted that the government is working to enhance security in satellite towns, rural areas, and the city.
“So the centre of government is security. But once their people can have confidence that they can sleep with their two eyes closed, then you know that so many other things will follow. Thank you.
“The last three, four months, we gave out 50 of these vehicles to federal security agencies. Now again, we are providing another 50. Brand new, not fairly used.I want to make emphasis on not fairly used. Brand new. And like I said last time, we must not give space.
“We must not allow these criminals to strike before we go in. We have to take the war to them. Let them know that we are serious.
“And so during the 32nd period, make sure that we don’t give them any gap. I don’t want anybody to say because there was no vehicle before we could reach there, something has happened”.
In addition to providing vehicles, Wike’s administration is also building 12 police divisions across the six Area Councils. This initiative aims to strengthen security presence and response times in these areas.
Meanwhile, worried
by the magnitude of destruction of property of residents of Federal Capital Territory Abuja by the authorities of FCDA, Senate on Thursday ordered the Minister of FCT to suspend the exercise.
This is as the upper chamber Senate has set up an adhoc committee to investigate the demolition of buildings in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT by the Federal Capital Development Authority, FCDA.
It also summoned the Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike, to appear before it to explain the reasons behind the demolitions, which have made many residents to cry out.
The resolutions followed a motion by Senator Ireti Kingibe (LP FCT), who expressed concern over the illegal demolition of structures in the nation’s capital and called for an immediate stop to further demolitions.
The Red Chamber particularly ordered the FCDA to halt ongoing demolitions of property in the Territory within the next two weeks pending the report of its adhoc committee constituted to probe the issue.
The adhoc committee, to be chaired by the Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin, has the Deputy Senate Leader, Senator Lola Ashiru; Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Tahir Monguno, Senator Yahaya Abdullahi, Senator Sahabi Ya’u, Senator Victor Umeh, Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, Senator Idiat Adebule and Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe, as members.
The Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, who announced the composition of the committee, gave it two weeks to submit its report.
Akpabio while reading the resolution of the Senate, said: “The Senate urges the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) to stop further demolitions of structures, except those ordered by courts of competent jurisdictions, until the adhoc committee constituted by the Senate to ascertain the propriety or otherwise of the exercise concludes its investigation and interface with the FCT administration within the next two weeks.”
Kingibe in her lead debate said that in recent times, the demolition exercise in the FCT was no longer based on reasons that necessitated the demolition.
She urged the Senate to be further concerned that the current demolition in the FCT was not in line with due process of court orders to demolish.
“As such, a cross section of individuals had suffered untold hardships occasioned by massive demolition, which has led to a loss of properties worth billions of naira.
“Also concerned that at the moment, an estate by name, Messrs Paulosa, for which late Colonel Paul Osakpawan Ogbebor is the chairman, is currently under revocation and demolition.
And from reliable information, the said plot of land was allocated to him in 1984 with requisite title document.
“And further concerned that the owner of this estate was a patriotic Nigerian who served the nation meritoriously and one of the first intakes of the Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna, with registration Number 001,” Kingibe said.
She urged the Senate to accordingly resolve to urge the FCT administration to halt the ongoing revocation and demolition of the said property, “as it does not fall within the purview of the reasons for the massive demolition being carried by the FCDA.”
Senator Kingibe also advocated that
all demolitions should follow due process while the Senate set up a committee to investigate the matters arising from the demolition.
However, Senator Sunday Karimi (APC Kogi West) in his contribution said the Senate needs to hear from the Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike, before ordering a halt to the demolitions.
“If you look at this motion, the presenter said, a specific land allocation was mentioned belonging to one Paul Ogbebor.
“We don’t know anything about this thing and we are just coming because of this to tell the minister to stop?
“There is need to investigate this matter before giving any directive. We must hear from the minister. But we have to hear before we say stop demolition.
“Let’s hear from the Minister. You cannot shave a man’s head at his back. We need to hear from the Minister,” Karimi said.
The Chairman Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters, Senator Adeniyi Adegbonmire (APC Ondo Central), however disagreed with Karimi, saying that the request that the Senate should call on the FCT minister to halt further demolitions was in order.
He said: “Mr. President, with respect I disagree with Mr. Karimi. I think we need to be fair to everyone. There is before us an allegation that says certain steps are to be taken which will culminate in demolition. Are we saying that we should allow the place to be demolished while we are trying to look into it?”
In his response, the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio agreed with the chairman Senate Committee on Judiciary and Legal Matters, saying “my thought is in line with yours. If we just say, continue the demolition, and then we start investigation, what are we then investigating?”
He, thereafter, read the resolution of the Senate calling on the FCT Minister to halt further demolitions of property in the FCT pending the investigative report of its adhoc committee chaired by the Deputy Senate President.

Authorities of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT),has challenged those using the Social Media to circulate falsehood about their lands being grabbed by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) to provide genuine evidence that they owned such land.

According to the statement, Olayinka, who also cautioned self-appointed social media activists to be mindful of being used to promote false claims, said “The most reasonable thing for anyone to do is to find out from both sides before going public with any issue”
Referring to a recent video being circulated on a land located Life Camp, particularly Plot No. 2241, Gwarimpa District, Cadastral Zone C02, Abuja, the FCT Minister’s Spokesperson challenged those claiming ownership of the land to provide Right of Occupancy or Certificate of Occupancy granted by the FCTA.
Olayinka said; “A construction company, Paulosa Nigeria Limited occupied the land as a temporary office, under a Temporary Right of Occupancy arrangement granted in 1984 (40 years ago).
“For 36 years, the company occupied the land, built permanent structures on it and rented them out without any approval from the government.
“On November 18, 2020, after occupying the land for 36 years without approval, Paulosa Nigeria Limited applied to the then Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, for the conversion of the Temporary Right of Occupancy to a Statutory Right of Occupancy.
“On February 1, 2023, approval was granted to Paulosa Nigeria Limited for a Statutory Right of Occupancy, subject to certain terms and conditions.
“Some of the terms and conditions are; payment of Ground Rent Per Square Meter Per Annum, which was N50K/m² from 2022 to 2023, amounting to N2,332,143; payment of Premium of N500/m², amounting to N11,660,715 and payment of Ground Rent from 1984 to 2021 (37 years), amounting to N43,144,645.
“However, for 20 months, Paulosa Nigeria Limited refused to comply with the terms and conditions for the approval.
“Consequent upon the failure of Paulosa Nigeria Limited to comply with the terms and conditions for approval granted for a Right of Occupancy on the said land, the approval was revoked on October 10, 2024, more than 20 months after it was given.
“From the above, it should be clear that Paulosa Nigeria Limited never at any time, owned the land.
“For instance, if a student who was offered an admission to a university, refused to pay the fees stipulated in the offer of admission, and fulfil other terms and conditions for the admission, can the student have any claim to the studentship of the university?”
While counseling those who are desirous of doing human rights activism to be mindful of being used to peddle falsehood, Olayinka said, “My advice to our social media emergency human rights advocates is that they should always endeavor to investigate claims by whoever that is seeking their service.
“For instance, if the person who took his time to do that video had taken a simple step of investigating further, he would have been well informed, such that he won’t be used to mislead the public.
“The other time, a certain character who went to school in the night to study Baseless Black-market Law, was on the social media, ranting that the FCT Minister grabbed someone’s land.
“If he had studied law properly, he would have taken the proper step of approaching relevant government agencies for information on the said land.
“Our online lawyer would have been properly schooled that when you get allocation for a recreation park, building a school and a church on the land is a clear contravention of the condition for which the land was allocated.”

Nigeria and India have entered into partnership to address common challenges related to desertification and land degradation at the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification at the Conference of Parties 16 ( UNCCD COP16), taking place at Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The Nigerian Minister of Environment, Balarabe Abbas Lawal in a bilateral discussions with his counter part from India, Bhupender Yadav at the sidelines event at COP16 in Riyadh discussed issues related to strengthening cooperation as members of International Alliance and issues related to Energy Access and Transition.
The conference which started on Monday 2nd December, 2024 with 196 countries and the European Union representative includes the Minister of Environment, Federal Republic of Nigeria, Balarabe Abbas Lawal representing Nigeria at the event.
UNCCD COP16 salient mission is to create awareness on global ambition and accelerate action on land and drought resilient through people centred approach.
The Minister stressed the need for India and Nigeria to work as a team to address common challenges related to desertification and land degradation, ultimately contribute to a more robust and sustainable future.
Bhupender Yadav commended Nigerian Minister of Environment, Balarabe Abbas Lawal for his remarkable achievements in the area of combating desertification and land degradation in Nigeria and assured him of India ‘s support in tackling environmental challenges in the two countries.
In a statement signed by Ibrahim Haruna, Director, Press and Public Relations Unit of the ministry, Yadav emphasized that the two countries will work together to address environmental challenges confronting them.
Abia State government says it has commenced survey activities at the site of the proposed Abia International Airport in Nsulu, with a promise to compensate land donors in line with the Land Use Act.
The Commissioner for Lands and Housing, Mr. Chaka Chukwumerije, who stated this while speaking to journalists, said proper enumeration of lands will be done and compensations paid to those whose lands will be used for the project.
Chukwumerije was reacting to the protest by some indigenes of donor communities which took place over the weekend.
He said that the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Caleb Ajagba, and the Special Assistant on Lands and Housing, Okorougo Aji held extensive negotiations with natives covering the seven land donor communities in Nsulu.
According to the Commissioner, a proper understanding was reached with the land donor communities, which included the joint survey activities between the Office of the Surveyor General Abia State and the Nsulu donor communities as represented by their various youth leaders.
“At the commencement of the survey on Saturday, November 30, 2024, some members of the Umunna Nsulu protested not being carried along.
“The Chief of Staff to the Governor was quick to address them and reassured them that anybody that felt he or she had not been carried along will be appropriately engaged,” he said.
A young Nigerian woman has accused the Regional Head of the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM), Ilupeju branch, Pastor Babatunde George, of allegedly stealing her father’s land.
In a trending video, the woman narrated that her father purchased the land in 2002, intending to sell it later to support his children.
However, she claimed the pastor wrongfully took possession of the land, leading to a protracted legal battle that her father eventually lost, despite evidence supporting his ownership.
The woman alleged intimidation and threats from the pastor’s lawyer, who reportedly vowed that her family would never reclaim the land.
She expressed frustration over the perceived oppression from the church and the preacher, lamenting that the ordeal has left her father in poor health.
“Day and night, my father cannot sleep. My dad is suffering and looking older than his age because of stress. This is injustice; we the poor ones do not have a say,” she said.
The video has sparked a public outcry on social media, with many calling for an investigation into the matter. As of now, neither Pastor Babatunde George nor MFM has stated the allegations.

McALLEN, Texas — Texas is offering a parcel of rural ranchland along the U.S.-Mexico border to use as a staging area for potential mass deportations under President-elect Donald Trump.
The property, which Texas originally purchased last month, is located in rural Starr County in the Rio Grande Valley. Republican Dawn Buckingham, the Texas Land Commissioner, sent a letter on Thursday to Trump extending the offer.
The land offer is the latest illustration of a sharp divide between states and local governments on whether to support or resist Trump’s plans for mass deportations of migrants living in the U.S. illegally. On Tuesday, the Los Angeles City Council voted to become a “sanctuary” jurisdiction, limiting cooperation with federal immigration authorities to carry out deportations.
Texas leaders have long backed aggressive measures on the border to curb crossings, including installing razor-wire barriers and passing a law last year that would allow law enforcement to arrest migrants who cross the border illegally.
“By offering this newly-acquired 1400-acre property to the incoming Trump Administration for the construction of a facility for the processing, detention, and coordination of what will be the largest deportation of violent criminals in our nation’s history, I stand united with President Donald Trump to ensure American families are protected,” Buckingham said in a statement.
Trump has said he plans to begin his deportation efforts on the first day of his presidency. He frequently attacked illegal immigration during his campaign, linking a record spike in unauthorized border crossings to issues ranging from drug trafficking to high housing prices.
There are an estimated 11 million people in the country illegally. Questions remain about how people would be identified and where they would be detained.
The president-elect’s transition team did not say whether they would accept Texas’ offer but sent a statement.
