The President of the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF), Chris Jenkins OBE, is currently in Lomé, Togo, to engage with national authorities and stakeholders regarding Togo’s integration into the Commonwealth Games. Togo, which joined the Commonwealth a year ago, is set to make its debut at the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Glasgow 2026. Jenkins highlighted the significance of Togo’s membership, discussing opportunities for collaboration and the role of sports in fostering unity and development.
During his visit, Jenkins met with key officials, including the President of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) Togo, Akpaki Deladem, and government leaders such as the Prime Minister and the President of the National Assembly. He emphasized the value of the Commonwealth Games in athlete development, particularly for smaller nations, and expressed enthusiasm for Togo’s participation in both Glasgow 2026 and the 2027 Commonwealth Youth Games.
Jenkins also touched on the inclusive nature of the Commonwealth Games, which feature para and able-bodied events side-by-side. He reassured Togo of CGF’s commitment to supporting its athletes and coaches as they prepare for their first-ever participation in Glasgow 2026 and beyond.
