Leicester City winger Abdul Fatawu has been ruled out for the remainder of the season after suffering a serious knee injury during international duty with Ghana. The 20-year-old picked up the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in Ghana’s 1-1 draw against Angola during the recent international break.
Leicester manager Steve Cooper confirmed the devastating news ahead of his side’s upcoming clash with Chelsea in the Premier League.
“It’s not good, it’s a serious injury,” Cooper stated. “He’s had an ACL injury that is going to rule him out for the rest of the season. It’s a real blow, first and foremost for him, being a young player and having an injury as serious as what an ACL is.”
Fatawu, who was instrumental in Leicester’s promotion campaign last season, has featured 11 times in the Premier League this term. His absence will leave a significant gap in the squad, but Cooper expressed confidence in the youngster’s resilience.
“It’s a blow for us as well,” Cooper continued. “He’s obviously a big talent and an exciting young player. Albeit, ACL injuries can be quite common in football, but it’s still a tough challenge, especially at his age. That said, we’re fully committed to supporting him through this recovery journey.”
Despite the setback, the Leicester boss remains optimistic about Fatawu’s future. “It’s only a pause. We will ensure, as difficult as it is for him now, that he comes back stronger, both as a player and a person. Knowing his mentality and character, I have no doubt he will overcome this challenge.”
The injury marks a significant loss for Leicester City as they navigate the top flight, with Fatawu’s flair and energy being crucial to their attacking play. Fans and teammates alike will be rooting for the young Ghanaian to make a full recovery and return to the pitch stronger than ever.
