Hosts of the CAF Women’s Champions League Morocco 2024, AS FAR are through to the semifinals.
Former champions AS FAR, who had a poor start and took a lot of criticism, showed maturity in defeating University of the Western Cape 2-0, ending their maiden campaign.
The hosts finished the group stages at the top of Group A and continued their title hunt as Doha El Madani, 19, scored two goals to give them their third victory in as many games.
As anticipated, UWC fought hard to take the lead right away, but the South African team was held back by a well-organised AS FAR defence.
After a spectacular run, Simnikiwe Mhlakaza fouled replacement Sanaa Mssoudy in the box in the 35th minute, breaking the deadlock in favour of the home team.
To take the lead, the youthful El Madani stepped up and slotted it home.
Coming back from the break, the two stars combined again with the troublesome Mssoudy threading a delightful through ball for the teenager who’s stinging effort was parried into goal by Thandeka Ngcobo just after the hour mark.
