The Sparrowhawks demonstrated tenacity in ending a three-game losing streak in the TotalEnergies CAF AFCON qualifiers, even though they were eliminated from the competition.
Kevin Denkey’s incredible long-range goal early in the second half extended the lead after Yaw Annor’s goal in the 14th minute.
Annor’s second goal in the 87th minute completed an outstanding individual effort. Equatorial Guinea had already guaranteed their place at AFCON 2025, hence the loss had no effect on their eligibility.
Their 10-game winning streak in the qualifiers was cut short by the defeat, though, and it revealed weaknesses that could need to be fixed before the event.
