The draw for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2025) took place on Monday, January 27, at the Mohammed V National Theater in Rabat, Morocco.
As the host nation, Morocco was placed in Group A alongside Mali, Zambia, and Comoros. While Moroccan football legend Mustapha Hadji expressed confidence in the team’s chances, he acknowledged the group’s challenges, describing it as “difficult,” particularly with Mali being a strong regional rival and the other teams showing character and resilience.
Coach Walid Regragui, however, remained measured in his response. “Inchallah,” he said, before adding, “All the groups are balanced. Mali is strong, Zambia we know well, and Comoros, who finished first ahead of Tunisia, are a solid team.” With home advantage and support from Moroccan fans, Regragui’s squad will face high expectations, but the coach is keeping a realistic approach as the competition draws closer.
