In a significant development for South Sudanese football, the South Sudan Football Association (SSFA) Board of Directors, during its Extraordinary Meeting No. 12/2024 held on November 26, has approved an expansion of the inaugural South Sudan Premier League.
The number of participating teams has been increased from 10 to 14, marking a major step towards broadening the competition’s scope and inclusivity.
The additional four slots will be allocated to clubs that successfully meet the stringent Club Licensing Criteria set by the SSFA, ensuring that only teams with the necessary infrastructure, management, and financial stability make it to the top-tier competition.
In light of this decision, the much-anticipated draw and release of fixtures, initially scheduled for today, November 27, has been postponed. The SSFA has assured that a new date for the draw will be communicated in due course.
This expansion underscores the SSFA’s commitment to developing competitive and well-structured football leagues in the country, offering more opportunities for teams and players to showcase their talent on a national stage.
Football fans across South Sudan will now eagerly await further announcements as the league gears up for its historic debut.
