Orlando Pirates’ third group-stage match of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League ended in a 1-1 draw against Stade d’Abidjan in Abidjan on Saturday, denying them a chance to increase their lead at the top of Group C.
Evidence. Makgopa gave the visitors the lead in the 45th minute after Relebohile Mofokeng was fouled in the box and converted a penalty.
Before the Ivorian team’s header in the 53rd minute levelled the score, the Buccaneers appeared to be in control of all three points.
Youssouf Koné and Babacar Guèye put the Orlando Pirates’ defence to the test as the home team dominated the closing minutes.
Goalie Sipho Chaine, however, was up to the challenge and made sure the Pirates came away with a point.
As a result, the Pirates are still leading Group C with five points, although Al Ahly is only one point behind them with a game left.
