Carlo Ancelotti achieved a stunning milestone on Wednesday when Real Madrid won the Intercontinental Cup.
With 15 trophies overall, the Italian manager now holds the record for most titles in the club’s history.
Ancelotti overtook the late Miguel Munoz, whom he tied in August when his team defeated Atalanta in the European Super Cup, as his team easily defeated Pachuca 3-0 in a very one-sided match at the Lusail Stadium in Qatar.
“There are so many of them (titles)! I’m delighted, really happy… it’s a success story,” a smiley Ancelotti told Spanish television channel Telecinco.
“Today I really liked the attitude from the players. Up front, they made the difference, Vinicius Jr had a great game. Offensively we did well.
“We have a lot of quality. Kylian (Mbappe) had a good game, Rodrygo scored the second… We are very happy because we won a title far from home and in the middle of a busy season.”
Ancelotti, 65, has one of the most impressive resumes in all of sports. He knew that his sole goal was to boost Real Madrid’s trophy tally when he was enticed back to Madrid for a second stint three years ago when club legend Zinedine Zidane left, and he hasn’t let anyone down.
He led Real Madrid to two Champions League and La Liga doubles in three seasons, making him the first manager to win championships in each of Europe’s top five leagues: England, Spain, Germany, Italy, and France.
Three Champions League titles, two Club World Cups, three European Super Cups, two Spanish League crowns, two Spanish Cups, two Spanish Super Cups, and, most recently, one Intercontinental Cup title are among Ancelotti’s Real Madrid accolades.
