Chelsea Football Club have confirmed that winger Mykhailo Mudryk has been provisionally suspended from football after the Football Association (FA) notified him of a positive drugs test.
In a statement released by the club, Chelsea revealed that the FA recently contacted Mudryk following “an adverse finding” in a routine urine test. The Ukrainian international, who has been a key part of Chelsea’s squad since his arrival, is now working closely with the club and authorities to determine the cause of the result.
Chelsea’s statement read:
“Chelsea Football Club can confirm that the Football Association recently contacted our player Mykhailo Mudryk concerning an adverse finding in a routine urine test.
“Both the club and Mykhailo fully support The FA’s testing programme and all our players, including Mykhailo, are regularly tested.
“Mykhailo has confirmed categorically that he has never knowingly used any banned substances.
“Both Mykhailo and the club will now work with the relevant authorities to establish what has caused the adverse finding.
“The club will not be commenting any further.”
Mudryk’s suspension comes as a significant blow to both the player and Chelsea, as they navigate a crucial part of their season. The 23-year-old has firmly denied knowingly using any banned substances, a sentiment echoed in the club’s support of the FA’s anti-doping protocols.
The Football Association’s investigation will now seek to determine the full details surrounding the adverse finding, including whether any severe factors could have influenced the result.
Until then, the winger remains provisionally sidelined from all football-related activities.
