Banda and Chawinga in the running for FIFPRO Women’s Best XI

Copper Queens skipper Barbra Banda is one of 26 players that are in the running to be in the 2024 FIFPRO Women’s Best XI.

This is her first ever nomination. Malawian captain Tabitha Chawinga has also made the 26 while her sister Temwa misses out. The nominees were voted for by players. The final team will be announced on December 9, 2024.

Scorchers Captain Tabitha Chawinga nominated for Best FIFA Women’s Player award

Scorchers Captain Tabitha Chawinga has been nominated for the 2024 Best FIFA Women’s Player award.

Chawinga and Zambia’s Barbara Banda are the only Africans among the 16 nominees for the award.

Born on May 19, 1996, in Rumphi District in northern Malawi, Chaŵinga is the third of five children born to her parents. She is of Tumbuka ethnicity.

She began playing football at age five and played with boys until age 13 when she began playing for girls’ club, DD Sunshine in the capital city, Lilongwe. Already at this age she was forced to undress because “Her opponents did not believe she was female because of her physical appearance and how well she played.

Her sister Temwa Chawinga is also a professional footballer
