“I’m so proud of you, my friend,” Ronaldo said, embracing the happy fan.

Activist lawyer Deji Adeyanju on Friday charged Governor Sim Fubara of Rivers State to man up and challenge the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
Adeyanju urged Fubara to confront Wike directly as a strategy to address the political crisis in the state, stating that the minister is not a god.
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, the constitutional lawyer emphasized that there is nothing that can compel Wike to back down in a confrontation.
He asserted that this reality is the necessity for Fubara to confront Wike directly and decisively.
Adeyanju argued that a head-on approach is essential not only for resolving their political differences but also for fostering a more stable political environment in Rivers State.
By taking this bold step, Fubara could potentially assert his leadership and work towards a constructive resolution of the ongoing issues.
According to Adeyanju: “There is nothing that Fubara would do that will make Wike back down, he’s a totalitarian who does not believe in a middle ground. He would not shift, the governor has shifted severally; the way out is for the governor to confront him frontally. Wike does not like to be challenged and once you challenge him, he becomes jittery and starts talking anyhow.
“The governor should challenge him headlong, the law is settled that when people defect; they lose their seat as stated by the Supreme Court. They went and got a lower court to make another ruling on the same subject matter.
“Assuming that I went to beg Wike as he said in his interview, that means he’s the oracle that makes people in PDP. So why couldn’t he make himself a PDP presidential candidate since he’s the oracle of the party that determines who gets what and how in PDP? “
As Sudan embarks on its crucial journey towards the African Cup of Nations, there is an air of cautious optimism. After missing out on the last edition held in Côte d’Ivoire, the team is eager to secure its place on the grand continental stage. Sudan’s campaign began on a high note with a commanding win over Niger, but a loss to Angola shortly afterward underscored the challenge of sustaining their momentum. However, a hard-fought October double-header against Ghana renewed the team’s confidence, as they managed to claim four out of the six points available, showcasing a surprising resilience that has brought them to the cusp of qualification.
Under the strategic guidance of James Appiah, Sudan finds itself needing only a single point from their remaining two matches this November to clinch their spot in the tournament. Yet, the team knows it cannot afford to underestimate its upcoming opponents, lest it fall victim to the kind of upset that could derail their campaign.
In this Sudanese squad, 31-year-old Ahmed Al Tash has been a standout figure. With his skillful presence in midfield, he has not only orchestrated play but also found the net in the qualifiers. Having played 109 minutes over two matches, starting in one, his contributions have been key to Sudan’s recent successes. Al Tash’s experience and vision on the pitch make him a vital component of Appiah’s strategy as they approach their November fixtures.
On the opposing side, Niger brings its own star in Oumar Sako. The 28-year-old defender, who has proven formidable at the back, also boasts a goal to his name from just one match in the qualifiers. Sako’s commanding presence and tactical awareness offer Niger a fighting chance, especially given their head-to-head history with Sudan, in which Sudan leads with two wins to Niger’s one. Each encounter has been hard-fought, promising another intense showdown in this latest chapter of their rivalry.
The upcoming Niger vs. Sudan match will take place in Lomé, Togo, at the Kégué Stadium, a neutral ground chosen for its central location. With everything at stake, Sudan hopes to finally secure their qualification, while Niger aims to keep its own slim hopes alive. As the two teams prepare to clash, fans from both sides anticipate a high-stakes encounter that could shape the future of both teams on the African football scene.

Nigeria’s Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong is gearing up for a challenging match against the Cheetahs of Benin Republic.
Nigeria will face Gernot Rohr’s men in their upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 qualifier.
The match holds on Thursday at the Felix Houphouët-Boigny Stadium in Abidjan, where Benin defeated Nigeria 2-1 in a 2026 World Cup qualifier last June.
Acknowledging the threat Benin poses, Troost-Ekong emphasized the need for the team to be focused.
“The stadium is familiar, and we have good memories from AFCON here,” he told thenff.com.
“We’ll focus on positive results from the past and aim for another good performance on Thursday.”
The defender noted that while Benin is also vying for AFCON qualification, Nigeria’s objective remains the same.
“It’s not going to be easy, but our goal is clear: to secure three points,” he added.
The chairman of the Abia State Council of Traditional Rulers, Eze Linus Nto Mbah, has urged politicians to emulate the late former governor of Abia State, Ogbonnaya Onu, in promoting unity of the country.
Mbah, who spoke at the inter-denominational commendation service held in honour of the former governor in Umuahia, said that Onu was a patriotic Nigerian who played politics without bitterness.
He noted that the former governor did not disrespect the traditional rulers or the traditional institution, but showed healthy respect for them.
Eze Mba, who advised politicians from Igboland and other parts of the country to emulate the former governor and minister, recalled how the first civilian governor of the state established a broadcasting house, newspaper, university and college of education, among other projects.
He said that the Abia State governor took the best decision by honouring the former governor with an interdenominational commendation service.
Meanwhile, many students of Abia State Polytechnic Aba have reacted to the renaming of their institution after the former Abia Governor. They said there is nothing wrong with the renaming of their institution after Ogbonnaya Onu.
Some of the students who spoke with DAILY POST, including Ugochi Nneka Awurum and Chijioke Benard, said that they were more interested in uninterrupted academic activities and quality education than the name that would appear on their certificates.
Former England defender Micah Richards has tipped Liverpool to challenge Manchester City for the Premier League title this season.
Speaking on Sky Sports after the Reds beat Chelsea 2-1, Richards said Arne Slot’s men “are challengers now.”
Curtis Jones scored the winner after Nicolas Jackson cancelled out Mohammed Salah’s opener at Anfield.
The result means Liverpool stay on top of the table with 21 points from eight matches.
Richards said: “Liverpool are challengers now—there’s no mistake about it.
“Chelsea were exceptional at times during the game but I think Liverpool, in the way they can see out a game and adapt with the slower build-up and the way they feed off the crowd’s energy, I feel they have the chance to go all the way this year.”
Tolulope Omosalewa Babawarun, an epidemiologist is the Senior Programs Coordinator at the Center for Comprehensive Promotion of Reproductive Health (CCPRH) formerly known as Centre for Population and Reproductive Health (CPRH). She is passionate about female reproductive issues, dangerous cultural practices, abuse and violation of rights of women and children. In this interview, she speaks on women inclusion, the fate of women in the Nigerian society, gender bias and stereotypes as well as economic liberation among other issues.
For a while, inclusion has been the focus of conversation on women, will you say women are now fairing better?
Considering the patriarchal nature of our society, the message of inclusion needs to be continuously preached until it becomes part of our lives and daily routine. Women now have better chances and representation in politics and leadership roles. An example is the recent representation of women as the MD/CEOs of notable banks – Zenith, GT bank, Access, FCMB, Citibank, Fidelity Bank, Unity Bank, and Union Bank.
Barriers still exist hence women are still grossly under-represented in politics and top leadership roles in society. These barriers include gender stereotypes of some roles, especially those that are male-dominated such as technology and engineering. Unequal distribution of responsibilities at the home front may also pose a barrier to women’s participation in politics and leadership.
Your organization engages in a lot of advocacy, how have these activities helped better the lot of women and children?
At CCPRH our advocacy efforts are in line with our vision Equity in Health and Development for All’ which also drives our mission to support and strengthen the health and well-being of family members, especially women, newborns, children, and the vulnerable, to achieve the best quality of life they desire and deserve by developing and promoting best practices delivered through inclusive knowledge sharing, research, and effective programming.
These have shaped our advocacy efforts toward improving the lives of women and children within our society. Recent examples are our efforts toward FGM elimination which have been supported by the government and donor agencies. These have included advocacy and raising awareness at the national, regional, and state levels to government agencies, health regulatory bodies, and associations on medicalized Female Genital Mutilation known to be responsible for about 13% of the practice in Nigeria. This led to the inclusion of Female Genital Mutilation in the curriculum of the Schools of Nursing and Midwifery and the declaration of its abandonment by 13 health bodies and associations within the country.
CCPRH advocacy efforts at the community level have empowered over 20 CBOs for FGM awareness creation across LGAs over 20 LGAs in Oyo state. Advocacy to community and religious leaders by CCPRH and these CBOs has led to the declaration of FGM abandonment in about 50 communities in 8 LGAs in the state.
Advocacy efforts also led to the training of 740 healthcare providers for the provision of preventive and treatment services for survivors of FGM who are mainly women and children. This has led to over 200,000 women receiving adequate health care for complications from FGM in the last five years.
Will you say the Nigerian society is fair to women?
This is a very complex and multidimensional question. In terms of policy and frameworks for policy implementation, the Nigerian society has not been fair enough as seen in the non-inclusion of women in policy formation, and where policies exist, its implementation faces challenges. This also applies to politics where women are underrepresented for reasons earlier mentioned.
There are ongoing efforts to challenge these norms through education, advocacy and creation of opportunities for women. Nigerian society is still a long way off to attaining equity for women in her society.
Do you think there’s a restriction on women in the professional circle in Nigeria?
There are restrictions on women that hinder their participation in the professional circle in Nigeria. Top on the list is gender bias and stereotyping where tradition and cultural norms assign certain roles to men and women with women being expected to prioritize family roles over professional goals. This poses a challenge to women being able to balance a career and family, along with the experience of career interruptions for maternity leaves or to care for aged or ill family members.
Women who can surmount these initial challenges may also face workplace harassment and discrimination in the form of uneven pay or workplace policies which hinder their growth and the value of their contribution to the workplace.
These challenges can be resolved by the enactment and enforcement of workplace policies that consider gender peculiarities, and most importantly cultural shifts to create a more equitable and professional environment for women in Nigeria.
What are your thoughts on women having streams of income?
This cannot be overemphasized. Economic empowerment is the first step to liberation. It opens a new world to women that ensure their rights, especially the right to life and access to good health care for themselves and their offspring are duly protected.
Multiple income streams give a woman financial independence and empower her to invest in her personal growth and prepare for emergencies that may arise.
What are your expectations from the government towards boosting productivity in Nigeria?
The government needs to do more to create an enabling environment that supports local productivity. We have heard of industries that have folded up due to the challenges posed by the Nigerian system. Top on the list of challenges is the lack of power which is the bedrock on which efficient productivity stands.
The drop in productivity across many industries has led to a decrease in economic growth, leading to loss of jobs and income to the average Nigerian. Its ripple effect has been felt throughout the country where Nigerians are struggling to survive on a daily basis. The government needs to focus mainly on power generation, supply and infrastructural development (roads and rails network).
Next is the development of policies that aid production, especially for small and medium-scale industries, access to loans that support agriculture, and technological innovations. The security situation in the country has to be looked into as this has hampered production, especially in the area of agriculture leading to the high cost of foodstuff in the country.
The government needs to commit to sustainable development for all while ensuring inclusivity to boost productivity in the country.
How easy is it to be a female professional?
The female gender is faced with multiple obstacles as many would love to refer to them that hinder her professional growth. Many of which I have mentioned above. However, I believe that with determination and hard work, any female can excel in any profession she has chosen to pursue. ‘’Nothing good comes easy’’. For those of us coming behind, we can learn from the experiences of other female professionals who have preceded us.
To every female professional out there, I will repeat this quote which I consider applicable, “Empower yourself with knowledge, embrace your unique strengths, and let no barrier hold you back. Your aspirations are the seeds of change—nurture them, and watch them transform not just your life, but the world around you.”

The Kogi State Congress of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), held on Saturday August 31, in Lokoja, has been described as ‘illegal, fraudulent, null and void’.
A chairmanship aspirant, Capt. Joe Agada (Rtd), who made the declaration at a press briefing in Lokoja, told newsmen that the purported state congress was illegal, lacked credibility and characterised by non-adherence to party guidelines.
Agada maintained that his group had concrete proof to show that the congress that allegedly produced Mr Enemona Ayebe as state PDP chairman was marred with anomalies.
Agada stressed that the basic bloc of the State Congress which is the Three-Man Ad-hoc Ward Delegate Congress where they were supposed to elect 717 delegates in Kogi, purportedly conducted by the Boyelayefa Dabekeme-led committee, was marred by grave anomalies and impersonation of returning officers from FCT, Nasarawa, Imo and Kano states.
He insisted that the development compromised the integrity of the ward congress and therefore rendered the entire process null and void.
According to him, the guidelines for the conduct of PDP Ward, LGA, State and Zonal Congresses for the purpose of selecting party executive committees at all levels were jettisoned.
The Kogi PDP chairmanship aspirant stressed that the accreditation at the state congress was highly manipulated and populated with non-statutory delegates across the 21 LGAs of Kogi State.
“As a leading aspirant of Kogi PDP chairmanship before the party decided to shoot itself in the leg, I am addressing this press conference to clarify certain issues.
“We want to let the public know that we did not withdraw from the PDP chairmanship and the state congress race, held on Saturday August 31, 2024, but we decided not to participate due to illegality of the process.
“I, and my group, decided not to participate in the illegal PDP state congress in Lokoja on August 31, because we cannot build on illegality. Our participation would mean confirming legality on illegal process.
“For instance, Olamaboro LGA has 103 delegates in total, in which only 48 could attend the purported congress because 55 delegates who are in my group boycotted the congress.
“Yet, 83 delegates were purportedly accredited by the state congress committee. Hence, 48 impersonators were fictitiously added to the accreditation.
“This scenario in Olamaboro also occurred throughout the entire 21 local government areas of the state during the purported state congress on August 31.
“We have written to the PDP State Congress Appeal Panel, notifying them that 55 authentic delegates from Olamaboro LGA did not participate in the purported state congress,” Agada said.
The STREEZE duo, Toby and Mayor, has won BBNaija Season 9 Custodian Challenge for the second week on Sunday night.
LEADERSHIP recalls that the custodian position comes with the power to influence nominations for possible eviction, saving fellow housemates from eviction and immunity from the eviction.
The housemates were asked to play a game of Fetch and Nuts where a Housemate was blindfolded and meant to use a fishing hook to pick out four items from a pool of balloons.
At the end of the game, Big Brother announced that the Streeze pair won the challenge.
The NdiNne duo, who was the past Custodians for the house, consequently handed over their authority hand bands to the latest winners, thereby becoming vulnerable or prone to possible eviction at the end of the second week of the ‘No Lose Your Guard’ edition of the reality TV show.
Surviving in the BBNaija Season 9 House depends on how well the housemates or each duo is able to play their games together as a pair – ultimately by not losing their guard at any time in the competition for the N100m grand prize of the reality TV show.
It is not yet uhuru for Olumide Akpata, the governorship candidate of the Labour Party(LP) in the forthcoming September 21 governorship election in Edo State as a former governorship aspirant of the party, Barrister Kenneth Imansuangbon, has dragged him, the LP and Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) before the Court of Appeal.
Dissatisfied with the decisions by Justice Babatunde Quadri of the Federal High Court in Benin City and Justice Obiora Egwuatu of the Federal High Court in Abuja, which all dismissed his applications on July 15 and 22, 2024, respectively, over Akpata’s candidacy, he has subsequently headed to the appellate court.
In the notice before the Appellate Court, Abuja Division, with suit no: FHC/ABJ/CS/472/2024, Imansuangbon stated that, “the learned trial judge erred in law and arrived at a perverse decision occasioning a miscarriage of justice to the plaintiff/appellant when he dismissed the plaintiff/appellant’s suit on the strength of the 1st defendant/respondent’s contention in his preliminary objection at the lower court.
“That the suit was statue barred, without considering Section 285(13A) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999(fifth alteration) act, (No. 10), 2023, to which the attention of the lower court was drawn at the hearing of the suit.”
Particulars of the ground being that “the learned trial judge found as a fact in his decision that the letter forwarding the personal particulars of the 1st and 2nd defendants/respondents as in INEC Form EC9 to 4th defendant/respondent(the Independent National Electoral Commission) was received by the 4th defendant/respondent on the 24th of March, 2024.”
Also, that “the learned trial judge further found as a fact that the commencement date of computation thereof, of time allowed for filling of pre-election matters in the circumstance, was the 24th of March, 2024.
“A simple arithmetical computation of the 14 days provided for under the law, from the date of submission of the said INEC Form EC9 of the 1st and 2nd defendants/respondents(that’s 24th of March, 2024), to the 12th of April, 2024, when the plaintiff/appellant filed his suit, reveals a total number of 18 days in between.”
Imansuangbon is seeking for an order allowing the appeal; an order setting aside the decision of the lower court; an order directing the 3rd defendant/respondent to immediately issue certificate of return to the plaintiff/appellant as winner of the primary election organized on Friday, 23rd February, 2024.
Also challenging the ruling by the Federal High Court, Benin City, in the notice of appeal with suit no: FHC/ABJ/CS/472/2024, Imansuangbon set his appeal on nine grounds which include that “the learned trial judge erred in law when he failed, refused and or neglected to consider, pronounce upon, decide, one way or the other, the 1st defendant’s motion/application for extension of time to file his responsive processes to the originating summons which the plaintiff/appellant ferociously or vehemently opposed on the strength of the constitutional provision prohibiting extension of time in election related cases and thereby breached the plaintiff/appellant’s right to fair hearing.”
Imansuagbon on ground two, stated that “the learned trial judge erred in law and thus occasioned a miscarriage of justice on the plaintiff/appellant.”
On the third ground he asserted that the trial judge misdirected himself when he held that “the plaintiff has argued that since every pre-election matter must be filled not later than 14 days from the date of the occurrence of the event, decision or action complained of in the suit that an aggrieved aspirant need not wait to exhaust the internal dispute resolution mechanism of the second defendant.”
The reliefs that Imansuangbon sought included an order allowing the appeal; an order setting aside the decision of the lower court; an order striking out all the processes filed by the 1st defendant at the trial court; an order directing the 2nd defendant to immediately issue a certificate of return to the plaintiff as the winner of the primary election organized on Friday, 23rd February, 2024 and an order directing, commanding or otherwise mandating the 2nd defendant to submit, forward or otherwise transmit the plaintiff’s name to the 3rd defendant as winner of the primary election.
In his ruling, Justice Quadri had declared that the lawsuit was premature and without substantial evidence to support its claims. The Court, therefore, upheld Olumide Akpata’s position as the LP gubernatorial candidate for the upcoming election.
Dynamic duo Nne and Chinne, a.k.a Ndi Nne, has won the first Custodian Challenge in the ongoing Big Brother Naija Season 9 on Sunday night.
The reality TV show, which was launched four hours earlier, has 14 pairs of housemates in the Big Brother 2024 House in both opposite and same genders.
By winning the #BBNaija custodian challenge of the season, the Ndi Nne duo is consequently safe from nominations this week and both housemates also have the power to influence nominations for this week.
