The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has successfully rescued a 25-year-old woman, Promise Eze, from a suspected armed robber and ritualist in Abuja.
The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, disclosed the incident in a post on X on Sunday, revealing that it occurred at a hotel in the Wuse district on January 31, 2025. According to Adeh, hotel workers alerted the police after noticing suspicious activity.
Upon arrival, officers found Eze tied to a chair with her mouth covered in plaster. She was unconscious but was immediately rushed to Wuse District Hospital, where she later regained consciousness.
Investigations revealed that Eze had checked into the hotel with a man who initially identified himself as Emmanuel Okoro from Lagos State. However, Eze later disclosed that she met the man online, where he used the alias Michael Prince and claimed to be an oil company employee from Delta State.
The victim narrated that after declining an invitation to Delta, they agreed to meet in Abuja. What began as a casual meeting quickly turned into a horrifying ordeal when the suspect allegedly threatened her with a dagger, tied her up, and covered her mouth with tape. He then stole her two mobile phones before fleeing the scene.
Before escaping, Eze overheard the suspect speaking to accomplices, indicating he intended to return to complete the crime.
The FCT PPRO noted, “Recognising the gravity of this heinous act, the FCT Police Command has launched a full-scale manhunt for the suspect and is working tirelessly to ensure his immediate arrest. The Commissioner of Police, FCT, CP Olatunji Disu, psc, strongly condemns this act of violence and urges residents—especially young women—to exercise caution when meeting individuals they do not know personally.
